2013-2014 NCAA FOOTBALL OFFSEASON

RIPPA

The whole thing with Texas is turning into a glorious mess.  The majority of the fanbase, or at least the majority of the vocal fanbase, is yelling for Brown to go.  Brown doesn't seem to want to go anywhere, and his his lawyer (who has given so much money to the athletic department that he has a statue on campus, and a building named after him) is basically threatening scorched earth if the school fires him.

Then you've got the new AD coming in to replace Dodds.  Dodds is still supporting Brown, and the new AD probably won't want to fire him as his first major act.

Add in the ongoing fight between the Powers, the school president (another Brown supporter), and the board of regents.  That's got ugly enough to get the governor and the state legislature fighting each other over whether to fire Powers or some of the regents.  At this point, Brown may end up starting a civil war that takes down UT and the whole damn state.

This is grand entertainment for somebody that loathes burnt orange, especially living in Austin.

So if the whole state goes down does that mean College Station can become the 51st state?

Maybe Perry is secretly an evil genius, and that's his master plan.

Mack is gone, guys. I don't doubt there's still some internal wrangling as to how it's going to go down, but he's done. I think the issue right now is that Texas would like to hold off on making it official as long as possible so they can minimize their exposure between Mack's departure and the recruiting dead period. Of course, that puts Mack in a bad spot because he has to keep denying the reports and it just make it look more and more like he's being forced out, which is the exact perception he's like to avoid.

And, why, yes, Texas is filling several dump trucks up with cash, and, yes, they do appear to be heading in the general direction of Alabama.

I don't *think* Saban will take the job, but I have no doubt he will be offered the job.  And when he does turn it down, they just might keep most of those trucks in-state and head for the plains.

Also, if I can make a suggestion to Texas:  Mark Dantonio. Aggressive play-caller.  Has consistently built great defenses.  Has built a consistent winner at a place that almost never has consistent winners.  Actually has had better seasons in East Lansing than even St. Nick did.  Get him the fuck out of this state.

Okay, that last part might not mean as much to Texas...

They would be best off just swallowing their pride and hiring Art Briles. Texas lifer with connections out the wazoo, already proven he can build in a winner in the Big 12, and with a third of the talent Texas has. Such a no-brainer.

But they won't do it.

There's been a lot noise around here about Briles, though it's quieted down somewhat since his extension.  Assuming you're right about Brown leaving, whoever takes over better have a thick skin if his name isn't Saban, whom a lot of Texas fans are almost treating as their birthright.

Why do you say they'll wait on moving Brown out?  Seems like they'd want their guy in now for recruiting, unless they don't think he'll be available till after bowl season.  Not arguing, just don't follow the reasoning.

There's a recruiting dead period coming up next week. If they toss Mack too soon, it gives other schools too much lead time to negative recruit against Texas heading into the dead period, after which time Texas is pretty much helpless to do anything about it until after the New Year. Flipping guys right at the dead period is all the rage these days.

Of course, if they already have their guy lined up, it's a non-issue. But if it's not Saban (and it won't be), then they're not going to have him lined up in time and they're going to go into the dead period with a vacancy.

But at the same time how is keeping Brown till after help any school that was going to negative recruit simple goes with the 'your going to Texas for Mack but there's no chance Macks there for in two season let alone four so come here where are coach has been here since...

Well, I think that's been going on for years now.

But the deal is, as long as Mack is still around, regardless of how tenuous his position is, they can still look the kids in their eyes and lie to them. Weak as it sounds, this is considered a preferable alternative to having no coach at all.

That does not get Mark Dantonio the fuck out of Michigan, so I say boo!  Boo to you good sir.

Why do you want to send winning football out of the state? Just add your colors together and come to the winning team. It feels good.

But seriously if Dantonio gets out of Michigan than MSU and U of M will both suck and Ohio St will be all we're sooo much better than you because who else in the Big 10 will step up? No one because the Big 10 is sad...Now I'm sad. Oh Big 10 what have you become??? I remember when people could argue you were the top conference with a straight face now, now the only team that gets respect nationally is the fucking buckeyes, the bunch of miscreants. Michigan get your head out of your asses and start winning and MSU keep Dantonio, pay him Izzo money. I like both teams to kick ass but Michigan has made it hard to side with them lately.

Michigan brought in a really well ranked class last year, and will likely do the same this year.  There is no reason why they shouldn't be much better next year.  Which is far from a guarantee or anything.

I'm guessing you're right about Saban, which will leave a lot of folks around here with egg on their face.  Local news was reporting on his wife supposedly house hunting here, and others are cyber stalking every private flight from Alabama.
