odessasteps Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Apparently some of the Giants were at Arena Mexico tonight for the CMLL show.
RIPPA Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 To put a bow on the Drew Maggi story - the Pirates optioned him back to AAA He is sticking around as the 27th man today since the Pirates have a DH so he most likely will see action in at least one more game
BobbyWhioux Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Ciudad De Mexico is already even more ridiculous than Denver and the Giants and Padres haven't even finished one game yet

He was previously 0-4 so that was his first big league hit and rbi. Edited April 30, 2023 by Tarheel Moneghetti
cubbymark Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 The White Sox are so bad now that after no-hitting the best team in baseball for 6 innings, they give up 10 runs in the 7th to effectively extend their losing streak to 10 games. 2
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 30, 2023 Author Posted April 30, 2023 Trout went 3-for-4 with two homer runs, five RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Brewers. lol 3
RIPPA Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 The Rangers placed Jacob deGrom on IL due to inflammation on his throwing elbow I am sure there is nothing to worry about

Cobra Commander Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Quote Bryce Harper, baseball player. A superstar barely alive. We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster. 1

Tabe Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 You weren't wondering but I'll tell you anyway: The game length improvements resulting from the pitch clock that we saw in spring training have carried over to the regular season. Games are finishing 27 minutes faster than last year and are down 34 minutes from 2021. That's a win in my book. Games are being played faster than any year since 1981. Interestingly, game lengths are much more consistent as well: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2023/5/1/23706488/pitch-clock-2023-shorter-games-uniform-duration 2
RIPPA Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 On the flip side - there are folks saying that there is a direct correlation between the rise in pitcher injuries (both in the minors and majors) to the pitch clock. I haven't found the "numbers" yet that folks are saying show this but their are folks saying studies say this Obviously - there is a lot of wiggle room here but worth mentioning it 1
RIPPA Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Speaking of injuries - the Yankees are thiiiiissssss close to this becoming a rebuilding year
Cobra Commander Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 there’s some analytical org sending an internal email asking “can we make players remove their appendixs during the offseason to avoid using them to appendicitis during the season”
Craig H Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Regarding the pitch clock and all that, I have the usual inside dirt from the MLB scoring side. I'll get to that later.
Dolfan in NYC Posted May 2, 2023 Author Posted May 2, 2023 Marlins are calling up and starting Xavier Edwards. He's #12 on their prospects. Supposedly Sixto is (finally) next.
RIPPA Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 ESPN did a quasi panel with some players and managers asking their opinions on the rule changes after a month https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/36387464/mlb-players-react-2023-pitch-clock-rules Based on this group - the thing that is disliked the most/should be changed/tweaked is the pickoff rule

I think if all along pitchers were 'managing' their pickoff attempts themselves and being reasonable with it, there would have been no need for the rule. But when pitches would throw over 5, 6, 7 times during one at bat, even though that was rare, it stuck out as an easy way to trim time. I don't necessarily love the two pickoff rule myself but I understand as a viewer why it exists. It just helps the game flow and stolen bases are fun anyway. 1

You’d be amazed that the roster flexibility that’s possible when people get hurt Message sponsored by the Royals using Nicky Lopez’s appendectomy as a way to bring back the catcher they demoted 4 days prior in a 2 for 2 roster move. Also, Franmil Reyes has minor league options. Who knew. Reyes might be a star of the “guys who would be so much better if they didn’t hit ground balls 50% of the time” club.
Cobra Commander Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 While the Royals are still 8-23, I am enjoying the Cardinals being 10-21 and the meltdowns occurring as a result of that.
RIPPA Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Speaking of the Cards terrible start - I have been reading a few articles around the teams who people thought were contenders who have hideous starts... or around the Yankees who, ironically, are 2 games over .500 (but are in the juggernaut that is the AL East) Basically - I think a point that a lot of people missed with regards to the new schedule is, yes, you play a lot more shitty teams (like I was saying last year how the Orioles would be one of the teams to benefit the most since less games against the AL East) BUT you also now have less games against your direct competitors so making your way up the standings is also a lot harder. This isn't the best example but like how the Yankees and Rays play each other 7 times over the next 10 days. They then only have 6 more games total against each other the rest of the season and zero games in September. (Remember 6 less games against each division rival). This is why so many are burying the White Sox already - 7 games back in division and would have a HUGE battle against at least 7 other teams for the Wild Cards (4 AL East teams and 3 AL West teams)
