The Rays have tied the 1982 Braves and the 1987 Brewers for the longest win streak to start the season: 13-0.

Please make it stop.

0-2 north of the border!

Yusei Kikuchi for Cy Young.

But seriously, he's an easy guy to like and even when he was shitting his pants out there last year it was hard not to feel sorry for the guy. If he can pitch like this for any significant part of the season, fucking awesome.

Now all we need is for Jose Berrios to stop doing his Ricky Romero impression.

That’s what, 0-1.4 with the exchange rate?

Giancarlo Stanton has been placed on the IL

I hope you all were sitting down for that stunning news

Its a Grade 2 hamstring strain so it is gonna be longer than the minimum 10 days

As a follow-up - Stanton is expected to miss 4-6 weeks

The Twins and Pablo Lopez have agreed to an extension

4 years, $73.5 million

Buys out his last arb year and first 3 FA years

Dola: Whoopsie! Alex Verdugo with a walk off double that hit the fence right next to the Pesky Pole. (it took several minutes of replay to actually confirm that it was a fair ball)

And then in the obligatory post-game interview, he accidentally drops not one, but two different F-Bombs.

Things are going great around here

4-14 and they’ve lost 11 of 12 at home.

Clayton Kershaw picked up his 200th win last night

He becomes the 117th pitcher to get 200 career wins and 3rd Dodger to do so

He is now the 4th active player to have 200 wins (Adam Wainwright should hit 200 some time this season - he needs 5 more wins)

And he's still the career leader in ERA in the live ball era

Max Scherzer ejected from today's game for a sticky-substance violation. Was quite animated in his insistence it was just rosin.

Interesting note about sticky stuff enforcement:

I mean this is Scott Boras protecting his client - but he clearly seems to be indicating that Cuzzi is the problem

Only person I trust less than MLB umpires is Scott Boras.

and the A's are moving to Las Vegas with a ballpark due for 2027

I heard about 30 seconds of WFAN on the way home and heard the host name drop Joe Niekro and the emery board.

fuck

Trade Rumors does a nice summary of what all this means now for the As going to Las Vegas

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/04/as-turn-attention-to-las-vegas-reportedly-agree-to-land-purchase-for-nevada-stadium-site.html

Bullet points

  • Stadium will be just west of the Strip and within a mile of the other two stadiums
  • Oakland mayor confirmed that negotiations between the city and club are ending and has started trashing the team (the usual "they just used us to get a better deal from Vegas)
  • Rob Manfred has already confirmed that the As are turning to Vegas and "fully supports" the move
  • The As will now need approval from Nevada state and local government officials which is expected as a mere formality
  • Deal "must" be finalized by Jan 15, 2024 but that is just based on a deadline MLB set (and the Rays are supposed to follow too)
  • The club is expected to cover the cost of the new Vegas stadium which clearly is a kick in the teeth to the current Oakland fans. Also "They’d be aided by the creation of a new taxation district covering the area which would allow for the reinvestment of sales tax proceeds and various tax credits."

Now what happens when the A's lease with the Coliseum expires after (I believe) 2024? Bad enough they're already a lame duck in Oakland until then... where do they shack up until the new place is built?

The lease is indeed up after 2024

While absolutely no one has said this yet - I am assuming they would officially relocate for the start of the 2025 season - with the most likely plan of playing in Allegiant Stadium for 2 years (and boy would that be ironic)

2027 is just the goal to have the new stadium done by

I've seen zero indication that they can shoe-horn anything resembling a baseball field into Allegiant.
