Timeouts aren't guaranteed. And don't have to be granted if the reason you're asking is that you're farting around. That AB was a textbook example of what they're trying to eliminate.

Another one where I actually don't see the batter asking for the Timeout.  I'm pretty sure the rule is you have to put the hand out to signal to the Ump you want a timeout, not just fuckaround and go "Time" when the clock is about to hit 00.

Tabe put @RIPPA on ignore. 😞

The excuse I'm going with today is that sometimes the "new posts" thing skips over stuff I haven't actually seen before.

That's my story.

Edit: Yeah, his post literally wasn't on my screen despite being 6 hours before mine.

The rule is that you can't call timeout. Only the umpire can call timeout,  and if you request a timeout they do not have to grant you a timeout. So if you are just fucking around,  they can just ignore you which is what happened. For my entire life,  this never happened,  if a batter asked for time it was always granted. Now,  they aren't.

There's a famous one where Bo Jackson asks for timeout, doesn't get it, steps back in and jacks one out.

That's a weird one. He clearly says something but it doesn't look like time. He points to his eyes like he wasn't ready but he clearly was.

As a followup to the Tim Anderson thing - turns out he'd already gotten a timeout during the AB so he wouldn't get another.  His beef is that the pitcher was already in the set position before Anderson got ready.  That's illegal (thank you, Max Scherzer).  And that's what he was (correctly) beefing about.

Jake Odorizzi will now officially miss the rest of the season after having a "procedure" done on his shoulder

Last night, Trout and Ohtani were the first former MVPs to get extra-base hits while the rest of their team went hitless since May 6, 1962 (Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris for the Yankees).

The kind of stat where people are going out of their way to clown on them but... the Angels, everybody!

the best golf swing of this weekend comes from Salvador Perez

I am pretty sure the White Sox catcher (Zavala) yelled something at Cruz which is what prompted Carlos Santana to be all WTF

The Rays are now 9-0 which matches the best MLB start in 20 years

So of course people can't keep it in their pants and are already being all GREATEST TEAM EVER

The 3 teams they have swept

  • Tigers (currently 2-7)
  • Nationals (about to be 3-7)
  • As (currently 2-7)

Jays and Angels are currently in extras tied at 10

LAA lead 6-0 after 4

Jays lead 10-6 after 7

That game was quite the ride.

Thankfully, the good guys won!

Cruz's injury is a fractured ankle

He's undergone successful surgery on his ankle.  He's out until around the All-Star break.

Evan Gattis decided to tweet about taking part in the Astros cheating... in the middle of the night this morning. Also he used the phrase "on a performance enhancing drug" about his time playing left field in 2015, which is probably Adderall.

In other news, Evan Gattis disappeared from baseball like a dad leaving to get smokes after 2018. Feels like if you had some sort of cheating scheme, you'd make sure to not tell Evan Gattis much about what was going on because it's Evan Gattis.

In other broken body part news - the Red Sox's Adam Duvall has been diagnosed with a fractured wrist

It is his left wrist which is the same one he had season ending surgery on last year

More injury updates

White Sox place Tim Anderson on IL due to a left knee sprain. He will miss 2-4 weeks

Braves Ian Anderson requires Tommy John and will miss the season

as a Devil Rays fan, i am excited about how this season has started, but also very tentative. a large part of that is the teams they've played up until this point.

on a separate note, i was wearing my TB hat the other day and somebody said "the Rays are doing pretty well this year. but i guess they're always a good team" which took me aback, since i've been a fan since day 1 and they have NOT always been a good team. funny how much things can change in 25 years.

The A's may or may not actually be throwing games so a certain bit of brake-pumping w.r.t. to Tampa Bay's hot start is not unwarranted.

I'd be much happier if the Rays thing was happening to a team in any other division.

Anyway, here's Ohtani doing his best Rendon impression:

Luis Arraez got the first cycle in Marlins' franchise history today. ❤️

It also means that every MLB team now has had at least one player hit for the cycle

Apparently, if you're the home team with shitty umps, you can challenge the Double Play after the 15 seconds are up after seeing the Jumbotron replay.

That was fucking bullshit, if it happened to any team.

Not really surprising but Salt Lake City is officially joining the push to get a MLB team
