WWE 2K14.

Recommended Posts

Not sure of how many of you frequent OperationSports but HyperBaller and my self have been pumping out NBA 2K roster edits for a few years now. We decided to do the same with WWE 2K this year.

If anyone is familiar with our work in the NBA 2K series knows that we are sticklers for realism. Initially, our overall values might appear low but this is in fact what the game needs. Most wrestlers are overrated in just about every category so realistically rating each wrestler and each attribute is something we felt needed to be done.We really wanted each wrestler to have a distinct attack style that is reminiscent of their real life counterparts. Borrowing from the Fire Pro Wrestling system, each wrestler was given a Wrestling Style. Some wrestlers actually have two styles if they are hybrid wrestlers. The better the wrestlers, the more likely they will have more than 1 style of attack.A few things to consider when looking at our system:*Strike Power - Everyone 50 or less. We don't want regular strikes to end matches.*Grapple Power - All wrestlers 50 or greater. These are the moves that do most of the damage IRL*Submission - Low if they don't use submissions to finisher a match, high if they do.*Speed/Jump/Agility/Adrenaline - We use the full scale (1-100)*Toughness - see below< 25 = Valets/Female WWE personnel25 = Divas/Managers/Male WWE personnel50 = Male Superstars who have slim to none chance of winning the Royal Rumble50+ = Have a chance of winning Royal Rumble / Giants who are hard to eliminate*Durability - Based of effective hit points range (see below)69 = 500 = Most Divas, don't want their matches lasting long70-79 = 550 = Jobbers/Lowe card, High ranked Divas80-89 = 600 = Mid/Upper Mid card90-99 = 650 = Main Eventers100 = 700 = Andre the Giant in his primeWe factor in prone to injury also*Charisma - Based on face/heel, crowd reaction volume, and star status*Tag - Loners to Tag team specialistWe will also be adjusting move-sets. An issue that we both agree limits this game is the mapping out of the moves. Too many power moves are available to non-groggy opponent situations. Power moves should be reserved to situations in which the opponent has been worn down. This will come a litter bit later in our project. If you have any questions/suggestions, feel free to add to this thread.

Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised at how nit picky some of you are. The game is really, really good. It may be the best wrestling game to come out in at least 10 years. Some of you make it seem like one tiny detail, like the absence of a move, makes the game completely broken, and those pain points take up something like 1 second of play time.

Yeah, this is absolutely true.  I honestly don't have any complaints about how the game plays and I didn't even notice most of the complaints people have had with the taunts, tight colors, and missing moves(except no Rainmaker, seriously I downloaded a badass Okada).  The 30 Years of Wrestlemania mode is all sorts of fun, Universe has been improved, and people have made some incredible community creations.  The detail that went into the Tanahashi I downloaded last night is insane.  It had to take at least 3 hours to do the tights on just the first of the four attires.  I understand people's criticisms of the franchise, but this is clearly the best version of the game ever created.

I honestly hope that now that the PS4 and Xbox One exist, 2K creates a bigger, better version of the game.  They've needed to update the character models for a few years now.  The creation suite, while really good, has basically been the same since it has been introduced.  I have no clue why all of the tight designs and entrance attire from the existing superstars is not available in the creation suite.  Why can't I put my create-a-wrestler in Macho Man's fringed entrance jacket from Wrestlemania 8?  I really like the game, but I think it shows the limitations of their software is very apparent.

Honestly, I only play import wrestling games and from a simulation standpoint these WWE games don't match up. Fire Pro Wrestling, King of Colosseum. This is my first WWE game I have owned since like 05. I have played others but they are too unrealistic to me. American wrestling games feel more like fighting games to me than actual wrestling games.

I am very picky when it comes to realism and there are just some elements of this game that aren't up to par without edits.

Thanks for posting that. I'll give that a shot when I get home. I'm terrible when it comes to adjusting attributes.

It is a work in progress but we appreciate all of these support we can get. Please be critical "if you will."

I didn't get a chance tonight but the first thing I noticed when I saw the spreadsheet was it has a great "less is more" approach. I'm looking forward to testing this out.

It's not a bad wrestling game. I would never argue that. There are just a lot of little things, very reasonable changes, that could make the game so much better. Presentation, graphics, gameplay, creation, online...all need tweaking.

Like I said earlier, a 7.5. A solid game but yet another WWE outing of wasted potential.

You can get all the downloads with silver, but if you want to play online or download creations, yeah, you're going to have to get a gold membership.  I'm hoping for a free weekend or something because dropping 30+ bucks just for creations isn't really enticing to me.
