Going through my backlog of stuff I wanted to listen to but didn’t find the time…the Talk is Jericho episode with Dan Lambert going through his belt collection and Eddie Kingston tagging along is so good.  It’s awesome to hear from people in the business who are so passionate about pro wrestling.  Such a worthwhile listen.

It wasn't wrestling related but I really enjoyed Jericho's podcast with Whitfield Crane, lead singer of Ugly Kid Joe.

That's why I can't get into Lapsed Fan. I listened to their Black Saturday series which was genuinely incredible and they did fantastic work as far as research and putting the events that happened in the context of the era, and ultimately the final thesis of "Ole Anderson was already a dinosaur running the territory into the ground BEFORE Vince stepped into the picture" was well-backed up.

But goddamn was it a chore to endure multiple 2-3 minute long "comedy bits" where the gist of the joke is "Jim Barnett was GAY!"

I'm listening to a lot of 10 year old Wrestling Pods with lots of references to specific things, promotions or people being 'so gay'. It's as if all these ppl are forgetting they're talking about their obsession with the most man-on-man thing outside of gay porn possible. Let's all just be comfortable with what we're watching here. It's really okay.

There are times it's less a Vince series and more of a series of "get a load of these wrestling freaks" stories.

I seriously applaud them for calling out the stupidity and shortsightedness of the THAT STUFF IS FAAAAAAAKE crowd, especially in the latest episode.

One downside is I'm currently read Reisman's book, so I'm hearing/reading everything twice.

Those least secure in their masculinity and/or heterosexuality tend to be the ones who try and link marginalized sexualities with negativity. Ever seen someone freak out because they accidentally touched another man's hand while collecting their change at the market? Same thing.

(Germaphobes get a pass as long as their freak out involves vigorous handwashing/sanitizing, not screaming "I SWEAR I'M NOT GAY!" at random passersby.)

It's all overcompensation.  "Manliness" (which is really a bullshit concept overall anyway), toughness, intelligence, skill, etc.  If you have to always tell people you have it, you don't have it.

I’ve been happily surprised to hear a few things I didn’t know or remember in this Vince series on BTB, but oof it is a bit of a chore to get through these. I don’t find any of these guys nearly as funny as they find themselves.

I dont mind the two guests but the main guy is borderline insufferable.

On Bischoff’s Strictly Business, he has on Dr CarrieLynnReinhard (this is I guess a repeat from AddFree Shows that sounds like it was taped shortly after the previous Forbidden Door) on the Psychology of Wrestling fans. I’m halfway through and so far and find it to be enjoyable. Not overly wordy like you’d think it would be, very relatable and understandable. There are a few annoying Bischoff moments where he’s stopping himself mid interrupting her to correct her with his thoughts (to his credit there’s likely a delay but comes across awkward when there’s straining noises made of wanting to say something) and overstating his point to get his opinion across (Arn was never over). But even with all that, I’m enjoying it.
Here book is out - Convergent Wrestling: Participatory Culture, Transmedia Storytelling, and Intertextuality in the Squared Circle. I’ll eventually buy it for profiling reasons.

Bix has done a couple bits lately on BTS using Chat GP (or whatever it’s called) to have “bischoff” and others saying outrageous things. And of course there are the shows with O’Connor doing his “comedy bits.”

Zellner is fine, but Bix makes BTS almost unlistenable for me. As for O'Connor, the less said the better. Oof.

I enjoyed listening to Lance Storm and Jericho talk about their one and only FMW tour

And I enjoyed listening to a Jericho pod with Howard Jones about Barren Cross' Atomic Arena. No rasslin', just CC Metal.

There was one instance where she's talking about wrestlers clapping their hands, hitting the mat/turnbuckles, etc to get the crowd to chant or clap along and Bischoff crapped on that by saying anyone who did that wasn't really over. Whoever the co-host was immediately called him out on that by citing many wrestlers who did so in the 80s/90s (the Rock & Roll Express chiefly) when Bischoff first started watching wrestling. The cohost also cited Arn as doing that at times and that's when Bischoff retorted with something like, "well was Arn ever world champion?"

I think I mentioned this last month but it’s really hard to go back to Bischoff’s pod once you start the Jarrett pod, at least to me. When you purport to be a show about “the business of the business”, you should know about running a business. Double J does, Bischoff doesn’t. It makes the whole thing cringeworthy to me and I unsubscribed a while back.

The Chikara portion of this week's BTS about the shutdown angle was really good! 👍🏾👍🏾

Agreed! I remember when it happened I was so confused. I was watching Chikara here and there at the time so it didn't make a whole lot of sense either. But to hear Joe (aka Leonard F Chikarason) talk in-depth about everything related to it was amazing. I found myself going back and listening to that section again because the detail and the information was so amazing. Probably one of my favorite segments BTS has ever done and I wish they'd do more segments like that on occasion.
