The dichotomy of man:

I thought Anna Jay looked really bad, and Willow did great because she's awesome and helped cover for it most of the time.

Send Anna overseas for a tour or two, sign Billie Starkz when she turns 18, and put her on TV instead and watch as she becomes AEW's 2015 Bayley or what they had originally planned for Kylie Rae.

They probably would wait until she finishes high school but yea, Billie Starkz definitely deserves a closer look, even if it starts with some Dark matches or something.

Anna Jay is smack dab at the top of the list of "folks who will benefit from Double J Double MMA running AEW house shows." She needs to be working way more often than she is. She's a gifted athlete with a good look but damn was that not great.

Shoutout to Kenny Omega. Here's someone who has nothing to prove to most fans, he could have easily retooled his work in a major way and dialed things back and taken it easy. And here he is, a handful of matches back, hitting the Kotaro Crusher on the stage and trying to break his dang butt. It's not thing I'd want to do, but he loves wrestling the way he wants to wrestle. Stay safe, please don't need a hip replacement in like a month's time.

Caught the MJF bit. Wish I hadn’t. If Regal really wants to go back to his kid and his Hunter and Tony is kindly allowing it, well… more terrible luck for the promoter whose had more terrible luck in a year than any other in history. But that was very close to the worst possible scenario for how that segment could go. This was the moment where it was obvious just how weak the narrative foundation has become. Thankfully there’s so much else to rely on but that was inauspicious.

Well said, friend.

Well, they did sign Nick Wayne when he was 16, if you remember. But yeah they’d probably wait until Summer ‘23, you’re right. Either way, she has no right to be as good as she is at her age. From the highlights I saw, she held her own with Yuka Sakazaki.

I have a few sources of noise aside from the TV, so the only real chance I have to gauge how much a crowd is into things is by the people on the hard cam (to the detriment of some shows).. would you all say that Indianapolis was a good crowd or not?

the only impressions I got from going through Indiana twice (on the way to other places) is that they have way more billboards than Illinois, and that there was a lot of dead deer on the side of the interstate. Indiana's a generic place, but did they seem like they cared about the show?

Also, this is probably unfair to Ruby, but she really does look a bit like shorter less evil Rhea Ripley (for all we know, the WWE might have went with the "we can only have so many goth looking women on our roster" idea while they were purging 1/3rd of their roster last year)

First off I want to talk about Cool Hand Ange's attire. According to Yuta he wears both a belt and suspenders, I don't like that can't trust a man who doesn't trust his own pants. SUSPECT!

Anyway wow a tale of two shows.

Opener was great but you knew that. Fun match with Joe and AR Fox. (as an aside Tony Khan keeps signing guys who kinda give you the same thing Jake Atlas/Jay Lethal/ Davari/ Swerve ect now Mr. Fox. maybe mix it up abit at least Bobby Fish is gone)

But man did the show fall off a cliff. That MJF segment. Now I feel that sometime he gets it right (that podcast thingy) and sometimes he doesn't . And this died a death. Doesn't help that they did pretty much the same segment with the Baddies later. (and I don't think that one did much better hope this BowWow stuff goes somewhere fast)

Willow and Anna Jay AS both looked a bit like fish out of water. Like they needed someone more experienced in there calling the match. how ever Tay and Ruby looked liked stars (Is Ruby's hair a Daffney tribute?) I hate music on run ins but I love when its used as a distraction so the face can attack from behind. Loved Tay's firey latin temper! But what was with Tay selling her own punch to Ruby?

Main event was better than expected. Like a lot of you I've kinda been dreading this best of seven but this was pretty good minus the overkill at the end where it felt like it should have ended 5 or 6 times. I'm a bit of a sucker of the brawl before the match like HBK/Bret in Montreal. Worked it a bit different than the last one so lets see where the rest of them go. One note, chill on the ref bumps for a bit. You got a lot of mileage out of Athena decking Ruby and you had two in Mox/MJF I believe so lets not over due it.

So Regal's made to look a complete idiot for what he did now, and that's why I hated the turn in the first place. Screwed over Moxley for nothing. The promo itself felt like it went on forever without actually explaining why the whole thing happened and more just going over what had happened. The one thing I did like about the segment is that they made a point to explain all the BCC guys not being there (Moxley ejected from the building, Claudio & Yuta in Nashville, Bryan in the trainers room after his match) If nothing else, I can at least dig it as a reason behind MJF vs. Bryan

Bryan/Dax ruled as expected. Joe/Fox was fun. Loved the Hangman/Moxley brawl, that felt big time.

BIG pop for the return of Ruby Soho! Destination Unnnnnnknown! Perfect time to bring her back in her home state. Welcome back Ruby & Hangman

Final Battle feeling a bit rematch heavy with Jericho/Claudio, Yuta/Garcia again, and even Joe/Wardlow though that was a 3 way last time.

The Best of 7 is the best. Love all of this. Also loving Carry on My Wayward Son as the entrance theme, just adds an extra bit of epic to it all. Nice for Kenny to get to do his old Goodbye & Goodnight again.

I guess WWF 1997 isn't remembered for the bad luck of multiple HBK fuckups and Austin being dropped on his head because they managed to turn screwing their franchise player out of the title into a storyline that propelled them forward

WCW 1991 probably isn't terrible luck either because the people running it weren't popular online and there's a thin line between terrible luck and being considered bad at your job.

The combination of the WWE doing a Mariel Boatlift of wrestlers towards AEW and AEW acquiring ROH was probably not a good combination of events for AEW.

My family once went Indianapolis once for vacation, reasoning being they have the world's largest children's museum. my brother tried to fight a goose. I would say Missouri has the most billboards (you will see a billboard for WORLDS BIGGEST SEX SHOP followed by JOHN 3:16 REPENT!  followed by another one for porn)

My thought was Ruby got cut cause Rhea was younger and probably came cheaper with a pretty similar esthetic

This. I know it's not going to happen but let me dream Bryan Danielson avenging William Regal defeating MJF for the AEW World Championship at AEW Revolution, 6th March 2023 which will go out in the early hours of the morning on my actual birthday.

Full thoughts tomorrow. re: Anna Jay. Watch how gingerly she took the back-to-turnbuckles impact after the Irish whips, watch how she took that spinebuster. Her shoulder is taped up again. She doesn't get shoulder injuries, she has a shoulder condition. My gut says her hypermobility issues have her terrified to commit to bumping. This isn't a character flaw or anything, I'm just not sure she's physically cut out for all this.

The trip I took was Missouri-Illinois-Indiana-Ohio and back, so I don't know if Missouri really has more billboards on I-70 than Indiana but Indiana sticks out after you spent hours going through Mid-Southern Illinois where there is nothing for long periods of space.

Someone could take a dive into the 2021 WWE purge to see how many of their cuts are turning out to be dumb and which ones made more sense than we realized at the time.

My big takeaway from this show is that for me, personally, Orange Cassidy's promo with QT was a million times more effective than MJF's epic "look at me cutting a heel promo here" heel promo. (Though, I do like that he set up possible programs with Kingston and Danielson - though, I will be bummed when he cheats to beat them). Same deal with him decking Regal. I do not dig fake injury angles. At all. And it makes Regal look like an idiot. But, at least it adds heat to the eventual Danielson match. Which will be great until the bummer ending. And speaking of long discursive workyshooty promos that are just not my cup of tea at all... Hey! It's Jade! Anyway, enough about the stuff that is not my cup of tea. Lotsa folks apparently love that stuff. Hope they enjoyed the heaping helping of it we got today. Sincerely.

Joe vs AR is exactly the kind of thing I watch AEW to see. Established ex-indie greats vs up n comers. Or sub in a Japanese wrestler on either side of that equation. And obviously Bryan vs Dax. Good Lord! What a match. Why are they fighting? Because they are both great at fighting and they want to see who is better, because Dax wants to test himself, because Bryan doesn't back down from a challenge. More than good enough reason for me. Personally. Willow is why I watch AEW. Didn't have a clue she existed all that long ago. now I am delighted when she gets a win. I personally would like as much of that as possible. Certainly, we got a sufficient dose of it today.

And Orange won promo of the night by a mile.

It just keeps getting better! In this episode, a wealthy university donor requests to have dinner with Sheldon, and he goes with his dad and the dean. His dad tries to teach him how to be nice to businesspeople who don't know anything about science, but it turns out the donor thinks he can talk science with Sheldon. But in reality he's a complete crank, who's never been told so because everyone wants his money! You could say that's prescient for what's happening in the world right now, but it's always been that way, from perpetual motion to cold fusion and all the way down the list.

This show is the fucking best.

How Regal looks isn’t a concern, MJF being such an insufferable bastard that he can’t even share the spotlight with people who helped him was the point. so that all of the AEW fans that were cheering for him a couple of weeks detest him.

I predict a very long title reign for him in which he’s constantly threatening to leave for WWE with the title until he is dethroned by someone the fans have gotten behind to save AEW from the indignity of having its title thrown in the trash on Raw.

The only disappointment of that segment was that the Burberry title wasn’t actually very noticeable, if they we’re going to do that they should have gone all out.

Oh yeah. The Burberry Belt. It's no American Dragon Hemp Belt but it suits his character.

And I forgot the main event! I was reminded that I got to see PAC in Dragon Gate in a small arena near Fukuoka a decade and a half ago. The DG influence on these matches is pretty clear. I am happy about that. These guys are kind of like Mahavishnu Orchestra or Weather Report or something... In that it really is a little too much but if you are that gifted and hard-working and also have that kind of chemistry then...

It's not WHY I watch AEW but I enjoy it. I enjoy the hell out of it. Like an ice cream bar or crepe station at the buffet.

I watched the MJF segment online and JFC is he absolute shits at doing a promo. Dogging the town and the fans doesn't make you a heel, kid. The new title doesn't look any different than the old title other than the strap color is brown and vaguely looks like the Burberry design (probably so Tony Khan doesn't get sued by the actual Burberry). MJF should have just put a picture of his dumb Great Value Miz face on the belt.

I'm finding I don't really care what happens now with AEW title or him because I know he won't actually do anything or participate and just run out the clock until 2024. Eventually, whatever AEW fans that are there are going to do the same if this keeps up. He isn't a HHH doing a reign of terror because we know it lead to matches that were more often great. MJF's wrestling output just isn't that great and who's to say whoever wrestling him next won't try to shoot on him (or maybe people in the AEW locker room think he's a clown and a joke and don't care either).  I don't even see him wrestling Ricky Starks at Winter Is Coming. Sorta wish someone (hell, Hangman Page) would come out and go into business for themselves with MJF on the mic. Bring up his 8 minute diatribe before he took 3 months off. Dax Harwood could probably pull it off since MJF talked about how 'ex-WWE' guys couldn't lace his boots and Dax Harwood has better mic skills than MJF could ever have.

The post-segment stuff with Regal was great but that was about it. MJF is making a dumb mistake going through the crowd (I noticed him pushing a fan that wasn't even near him and was actually backing up). But when has MJF actually made a smart decision?

So, i cant help but think we get Mercedes Banks (sasha banks) for William Regal after tonights developments.  With Bow Wow aggravating Jade, with his history with Snoop, what a pop it would be if Mercedes came out to challenge.  And it definitely seemed like a permanent write-off for Regal tonight, but we shall see.

I have kind of come to the conclusion that Carry on my Wayward Son doesn't really work as entrance music. It opens with a chorus, that's good, but then you've got the big long riffs section and a first verse that's a quiet vocals with piano thing, and they both take ages before the chorus comes back. So The Elite have to spend ages going down the ramp and posing at ringside before they can hit the ring for the second chorus.

She's been taping that shoulder up every match since her last return.  It's precautionary.

I think MJF is great in-ring. 🤷‍♂️
