Ric Flair DQing the Dudleys for a closed fist?

I loved Bill Alphonso as the only ref who would enforce the rules in ECW and playing into Cactus Jack's anti-hardcore gimmick.

"It is Cactus Jack's CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to be counted out if he wants to be!"

Ki getting into serious heat because he tried to shootkick Flair during a Flair Flop

I forget which Flair matchup it was (I wanna say Lawler or Koko) where the part of the Flair formula of "throw Ric Flair off the top rope" was hindered by the opponent being too short to pull off that move without it looking weird. I'm very confident that Low Ki is not tall enough to slam Flair off the top

That reminds me of Foley's story about his loser leaves WCW match with Sullivan. He told Sullivan to slam him off the top to the floor and Sullivan was like, "do I stand on the ring apron or the floor to slam you?" Foley said something like, "I took a look at the 5'6 Gamesmaster and said, "ummm, maybe the apron Kevin."

No, in my experience that would be Far Harbour. The writing in Far Harbour is much better than the main storyline, but the Island is Crash City.

IIRC, the fog in Far Harbor was causing crashes on PS4 when that DLC was released initially. I think they fixed that though as I never had a problem with it.

  4. Goddammit, now I want to play this game again. Anyone using BOS mods? I was using an Improved BOS mod and BOS Workbench that let you craft Maxton's battle coat but for some reason it makes all of the BOS people at checkpoints walk around in their underwear. If you're using good BOS mods, let me know your mod order b/c I might do another playthrough.

For "The Last Stampede" series of matches between The Midnight Express vs Stagger Lee and Bill Watts, I think most of those had either "Cornette wears a dress" or "Cornette has to dress as a baby" stipulations if the Midnights lost.

    The Midnights lost every match.

I remember I had a VHS tape of random matches from early-80s Memphis matches and there were at least 4 matches of a young Rick Rude wearing a dress b/c he lost a match to Jerry Lawler. It wasn't something I traded for either. It was a commercial tape that my mom had gotten from a video store. It had the famous match where Savage piledrove Ricky Morton through a table and also the match where Hawk nosold Lawler's piledriver. 12 year old me didn't know what he had. A lot of the matches were clipped to hell but it was still pretty awesome. I vaguely remember there was a cage match where the cage looked like it was made out of chicken wire.

i'm just gonna imagine "Dungeon of Doom" Honky Tonk Man where Sullivan makes HTM believe he's actually Elvis until Wayne tells them all to fuck off and leaves

I imagine DOD HTM as him going full on disheveled Fat Elvis and doing karate in an ill-fitting jumpsuit/gi and now I'm sad we never got that.

  7. Jericho had a really good interview with Gabbi Tuft aka Tyler Reks. Really insightful stuff from Gabi as she talked about transitioning from male to female, her time in WWE, etc. She was overall very positive about her time in WWE but she did say something that about how WWE hasn't let her backstage at a couple of events after she transitioned when she thought she'd be able to. She had everything set up to go backstage and say hi to people and then it got nixed at the last second. She theorized that some people there were uncomfortable with her but didn't name any names. In any case, interview was worth checking out and I thought Jericho did a great job with the interview. Asked some good questions in a very respectful manner and I found it educational.

I've never seen the Bock in WCW stuff. I grew up with JJ as commissioner though. I think it's something you'd have to experience episodically anyway due to the nature of the character.

As someone who grew up in the JCP era, it was always weird to see weasely, hit you with a loafer, JJ Dillon as a commissioner. The first live show I went to, the main event was an I Quit match b/t Dusty and Tully that Dusty won when he stopped JJ from hitting him with the shoe and then he hit Tully with it a bunch of times and ground the heel into Tully's face until Tully quit.

My roommate owned several, and there were a few diamonds in there. I saw Super Dragon and the Rev Pro crew for the first time jerking the curtain on an XPW tape. There was also the time Supreme almost died falling off a ladder, that was pretty cool.

You just had to suffer through endless Messiah promos and Homeless Jimmy matches to see any of them.

I had a couple of them too. I thought that out of the bunch, Messiah and White Trash Johnny Webb were actually competent wrestlers.

I was thinking of all those things while I was having my Funk appreciation thoughts. I just love his selling so much. It’s so believable and also so him. He manages to look like a golden retriever rolling off of a couch and it’s perfectly what is needed in that moment. He IS Terry and I believe Terry. In all of his moments and all of his periods, I see Funk doing what is the right move and stance and movement and reaction that Funk needs to make.

Look at how awesome his career was and his evolution to fit in and excel at the times in a way only he can. 77 Funk is amazing against Harley Race. His matches teaming against Giant Baba and a young Tsuruta is fantastic. The Lawler matches!!! Unhinged Terry murdering Flair in the late eighties. Deathmatch Funk and the elder statesman of ECW. Foley’s mentor in WWF. Funk is great.

    ——

In other news, I have the day off and instead of being productive I am derping.

Just watched El Satanico vs El Dandy from 90. It’s been a year or two. So great. One of my favorites! Fantastic ending to a bloody match.

Funk's WCW hardcore title match against Candido is one of my favorite matches. Just for the spot when Funk piledrives Candido in a horse stable, the horse kicks Funk and he yells something like, "you goddamn horse I'll kick your fucking ass" and Schiavone yells, "the horse with the highspot of the night!"

Not exactly the same scenario, but they moved Ali from being the ref at Mania 1 to being the outside ref and Patterson was the ref (IIRC).

I think that was mainly b/c Ali was starting to show some cognitive decline at that point and Vince wanted to make sure nothing went wrong. There was already one unknown variable in the ring in Mr. T so he didn't want to add another. They still wanted Ali attached to the main so they just stuck him outside and let Patterson be the main ref. Vince wanted Patterson in there to direct traffic if T forgot spots or if Piper/Orndorff really did get into it with T.

I don't mean to pick on Shartnado here, but it's a good jumping off point. This talking point needs to go away.

Smackdown pulled 2.4 million total and a crazy 2.7 million I believe for Roman's segment last week. All the complaining about Roman is unwarranted. It's working. He has a big deal aura. He's surpassed Brock. He's at least on par with Cena as far as presentation and moving the needle. Ratings are up. Attendance is up. And it's because the top guy is being booked so strongly for once (and has very captivating stories happening for him and everyone in his orbit).

I get not enjoying the sameness of one person holding a title. But this is how you really make stars (when you don't have once in a generation performers like Rock & Austin). Roman holding the title this long is great for business. Creating a new title for the other brand isn't ideal but it's TV negotiating time and USA has bitched about not having a champion for a year now. I understand people wanting the shows to align more with what they personally like, but I just wish there was also a stated understanding of what they are doing is right for business, even if it's not your cup of tea.

This is where I am with Roman's title reign and the Bloodline angle. At this point, I don't really give two shits about the storyline b/c it seemingly just always boils down to, "will the Usos superkick someone or won't they?" but I'm also not going to deny that it's drawing people in and working.

The last Clash should have been the end. In theory, it should have been a cool idea.

I believe the vulture was suppose to bring a note down to the ring so when the lights come back on Bischoff could take it, read it, and act scared. However, at some point, the note got lost or dropped. So the guys just had to stand there for five whole minutes and feign swinging at the bird.

Perhaps the goofiest screw up in wrestling history.

The craziest thing is how much money they had to pay whenever they used the crow on a show. They had to pay for plane tickets for the crow handler, the crow...and a back-up crow. IIRC, according to JJ Dillon it was like $10K or more anytime they used a crow and they did it more than just at that Clash. They used it for various videos and stuff for Sting. JJ wrote that they should've just gotten a bunch of shots with the crow once and interspliced them but anytime they needed the crow, they'd just fork over the $10K or whatever and fly in the whole crow entourage for one off shoots. WCW paid for plane tickets for a stunt crow...multiple times. How does anyone listen to Eric Bischoff when it comes to the "business of the wrestling business"?

I think I mentioned this last month but it’s really hard to go back to Bischoff’s pod once you start the Jarrett pod, at least to me. When you purport to be a show about “the business of the business”, you should know about running a business. Double J does, Bischoff doesn’t. It makes the whole thing cringeworthy to me and I unsubscribed a while back.

There was one a couple of weeks ago where he and Conrad got heated with each other over AEW having Collision. I never actually listened to it because I can't think of anything I want to listen to less than Bischoff's post-traumatic Thunder syndrome rantings. He's made it pretty clear that he doesn't think it will work b/c it failed when he tried it 25 years ago. For someone who always says "context is king", he sure as shit doesn't adhere to that when it comes to AEW's new show. Just because some Turner schmuck exec who wanted WCW to fail hoisted a show on you back then with no warning or plan doesn't mean that's what's happening right now.

On Bischoff’s Strictly Business, he has on Dr CarrieLynnReinhard (this is I guess a repeat from AddFree Shows that sounds like it was taped shortly after the previous Forbidden Door) on the Psychology of Wrestling fans. I’m halfway through and so far and find it to be enjoyable. Not overly wordy like you’d think it would be, very relatable and understandable. There are a few annoying Bischoff moments where he’s stopping himself mid interrupting her to correct her with his thoughts (to his credit there’s likely a delay but comes across awkward when there’s straining noises made of wanting to say something) and overstating his point to get his opinion across (Arn was never over). But even with all that, I’m enjoying it.
Here book is out - Convergent Wrestling: Participatory Culture, Transmedia Storytelling, and Intertextuality in the Squared Circle. I’ll eventually buy it for profiling reasons.

There was one instance where she's talking about wrestlers clapping their hands, hitting the mat/turnbuckles, etc to get the crowd to chant or clap along and Bischoff crapped on that by saying anyone who did that wasn't really over. Whoever the co-host was immediately called him out on that by citing many wrestlers who did so in the 80s/90s (the Rock & Roll Express chiefly) when Bischoff first started watching wrestling. The cohost also cited Arn as doing that at times and that's when Bischoff retorted with something like, "well was Arn ever world champion?"

They could extend it, but once Homelander and Butcher arw gone, that's pretty much it.

I only pick Ryan because he's now the closest thing to a Homelander clone there is and they did plant that seed that Ryan could end up picking Butcher over Homelander if that's what it comes down to, especially if Homelander goes as over the top as it looks like he's going to.

I think they established that Ryan has the ability to be stronger than Homelander once he grows up. He's so far the only natural born Supe. He's barely unlocked his powers and he was able to fry the shit out of Storm Front and knock Soldier Boy down. At this point, I don't even know if Soldier Boy's radiation blast would take Ryan's powers b/c he's a natural born supe so I don't think it'd be as simple as "frying the Compound V out of his blood" like SB does to the other Supes.

Going through my backlog of stuff I wanted to listen to but didn’t find the time…the Talk is Jericho episode with Dan Lambert going through his belt collection and Eddie Kingston tagging along is so good.  It’s awesome to hear from people in the business who are so passionate about pro wrestling.  Such a worthwhile listen.

It wasn't wrestling related but I really enjoyed Jericho's podcast with Whitfield Crane, lead singer of Ugly Kid Joe.

Also I remember people raving about Cena vs JBL Judgement Day 2005 - Really bloody I Quit match. If I remember correctly it was seen as his first big match where people saw him as more than just ruthless aggression.

Yeah people forget that pre-PG Cena did a few blade jobs.
