  1. Neither Sporting nor Man City can be bothered to play their starters - those that started to begin with - for more than a half, which I will use to obscure the fact that we're down 3-1, and our claim on the EPL hardcore championship (24/7 rules, naturally) will have to wait. *kicks can down an empty street* Ahem. 4-1 now. Which is fine. I mean, we didn't want to win anyway. It's a friendly, yeah? Good hosting, letting the visitors score like this. The polite thing to do. The friendly thing, you might say.
  2. No one's wife watches wrestling with them. We need to stop pretending.
  3. I mean, guys, she said "current events". Could be anything. Maybe Russia secretly conspired to prevent the Padres from getting their first no-hitter today? We don't know.
  4. This was a not very good RAW.
  5. Minnesota United of the NASL beat Swansea 2-0 yesterday. Don't know if that means anything either. Also, as if I haven't mentioned them enough this page, Sporting KC hosts Man City on Wednesday. Defending champs of both leagues, if you're looking to draw conclusions. (I wouldn't, even still.) A decent Man City side got worked over by Dundee and lost 2-0 last week. Dundee have just been promoted to the top league. Pre season results are meaningless. Of course. But I'm still going to pretend we're champions of the English speaking world, if the result comes up positive. There's even an invented "Champion's Shield" at stake, meaning, hilariously, that the game can't end in a draw.
  6. If everyone else is opting for a suit, I think AJ should have chosen jeans that weren't purchased from a big and tall store.

  8. You'd think. Zusi especially, I didn't quite see the interest in. But checking up on it more, Besler seemed to have options in the lower tier of the EPL, and higher end the championship. Sunderland and Fulham came up specifically. Not the best options, but I'm old enough to remember when any Euro team was considered a better option, and the default was to leave if you could.
  9. Zusi and Besler both re-up with Sporting KC on DP contracts. We never really heard what other options they've had, so it's hard to say whether this is best for them. Certainly some will argue that they're better off playing abroad. Klinsmann probably would be among that group. That said, of course the local response is very positive.
  10. Trying very, very hard not to make a Suarez joke with this.
  11. His eyes are disconcertingly asymmetrical. I can't notice anything else...
  12. Locally, there's a similar feeling that Dom Dwyer - and his 14 goals - ought to make the squad. I imagine he'll find his way in, although if not, he'll have his chance to make a dent against one of Europe's big clubs when Sporting hosts Manchester City (for an invented trophy! penalties possible in an exhibition!). Of course, we could also just get drilled.
  13. I actually posted this picture after the race itself, but I'm going to double dip and further indulge my narcissistic tendencies, since a slightly altered version is used as an ad for this year's race in August's Ultrarunning Magazine.
  14. As likely as Jozy playing against Belgium was. Hoping, at least, that other teams will have to prepare for the possibility of his playing.
  15. I do think it'd be hilarious to see the keeper get a red card, mid-penalties. But I understand it's not happening.
  16. So, serious question, you're allowed to shit talk before a penalty? I've never seen it before.
  17. Tim Lincecum, post no-hitter, in a USMNT jersey and a knight's helmet, throwing up a something that might be a yes chant.
  18. To be fair, we had Drew Gooden for awhile I agree that Duncan has had a sweet ride but he isn't the only guy to stay loyal to his team. What is unique is that he has played for the same coach his entire run. The Pop/Duncan tandem is an insane run. However, you have to think about the times that San Antonio ownership could have gotten rid of Pop. The loyalty to San Antonio is really Tim's loyalty to Pop. The same could be said for Tony and Manu. Both could have played for other teams for more money but they chose loyalty over an extra few million. From 2004-2010, Ginobili could have started on about 85% of the teams in the league but got stuck being the 6th man. Tony Parker is always in the Top 5 point guards in the league but doesn't get paid the same. He chose loyalty. I wish Lebron had a coach similar to Pop who he had loyalty to or an owner like Cuban who isn't afraid to open up the purse strings to surround his superstar with a great team every year. It may seem like I am bashing Lebron. I am not. However, I am worried he ends up like Shaq who was so desperate to collect jewelry, he tried in vain to sign with every possible championship team he could grab onto and it really diminishes their legacy. Hey, I'm a Lawrence resident, KU grad, and lifelong fan. I love Drew Gooden now and forever. His weird playoff renaissance with the Wiz was brilliant. But, I mean, the dude has played for every team in the league six times over for a reason. And I best remember Larry Hughes for advertising vertical jump VHS tapes that I may or may not have invested in as a gullible youth. As for the Spurs, yeah, no one can say a bad word about them. The players, front office, and of course, Pop. Perfect storm, and you can't really remove any piece of it, and guess how it would work otherwise.
  19. Regarding loyalty: It's a two way street. Duncan has had a near perfect coach/GM situation for his entire run, which has presented him with consistent championship opportunities. LeBron had the Cleveland mess. Easy to be loyal to the former, less so with the latter. If San Antonio had given Duncan the equivalent of Larry Hughes/Eric Snow/Drew Gooden as reinforcements, no rational person thinks he'd have stayed. He'd have been every bit the mercenary LeBron is alleged to be, were it required. Thing is, it wasn't.
  20. Not to derail the Suarez banter, but I have to share this now, as you mentioned it. Brilliant. I take back everything.
  21. More shocking to me than the finish was learning Samaras is 29. Feels like he's been around forever, and looks like a haggard 39.
  22. USA defeats Ghana again! Someone needs to book Swagger vs. Alex Wright before Thursday...
  23. Fuckin' Ox Baker is coming here???? Yes!!! how much do you have to pay for Ox to give you the Heart Punch? I can only assume you pay with your life.
