  1. OK, nobody post Ultima Lucha results in the main forum! I'm disapointed they've split it into two episodes. I'm having friends over the Saturday after the 2nd episode to watch the specials back to back: I tried getting them onboard with LU early on in the season (after the Puma/Ryck/Mundo match which is where it really clicked for me). One guy has got really into it and he's pretty much a lapsed WCW fan. Really looking forward to it. RIIIING DE BELLLLL!
  2. I probably should have said "skip NXT TV". Owens has fitted in really fast, hence why he's made the main roster so fast. The untelevised stuff is the real developmental. I don't think it's about how big a name you were previously. People who were accompished in another style will still have to adjust (some people just don't work out like Mistico). And bringing names to NXT who'd appeal to indie fans just fits the direction it has now. In terms of people who are trained pretty much from scratch at the Performance Centre, they only know the WWE style and presumably the role they are being groomed for. Are they gonna make the next Great Khali work for months on NXT before he makes a "shocking" debut against Cena or whoever?
  3. I think I'm more intruiged by this tag team from NXT house shows Eva Marie and Lina Fanene (linking rather than embedding, can't figure it out on my phone) Before the formation of Team BAD I was wondering if Lina would skip NXT totally to be brought up to tag with Tamina (they are cousins). I wonder if anyone will jump straight to the main roster anymore. Monster types often work best with an element of surprise, and can be protected in squashes and tags anyway.
  4. Alberto drove up in an Aston Martin in his first vignette (which has been repeated multiple times). He's worn expensive suits in backstage segments with Mundo and Cueto, though he's often a lot more 'man of the people' in his appearances in the temple. His character in LU has been pretty spot on as a face incarnation of his schtick, his first in-ring promo is definitely worth watching.
  5. I feel bad for guys like Masters and Benjamin who seemed to deliberately avoid working TNA all these years only to end up in it anyway. I don't mind Jarrett but you get the impression he's been working people at every turn (as mentioned in the earlier thread, he was saying in interviews just last week that his in-ring career was pretty much over and that he wouldn't be wrestling in GFW - only a week later he's the only 'GFW wrestler' who's had a match on TV and now he's their first title holder). Is it too early to start with GFW's gonna GFW?
  6. The announce team really missed a trick at the Rumble by not acknowledging the crazy shape Rollins is in. He didn't look out of place next to Cena and Lesnar at all. I also thought that the match made it look like he could hurt both of them, though he did have to pick his moments. I thought it was pretty smart elevation of him as an in-ring threat, though it could have been emphasised more by some decent commentary.
  7. I haven't seen this week's episode yet but I only found out this week that Melissa Santos is a trained wrestler. I was actually going to post on here that I wondered if she'd be used in that capacity on LU at some point, ha. I think it speaks volumes that nomally these type of angles in WWE or TNA accomplish nothing, go nowhere and are generally uncomfortable for all the wrong reasons, but people here are pretty favourable about last night turning a cool heel into one who needs to get a beating. Really looking forward to checking the episode out (and eternally jealous of all you guys who actually go to LU tapings in person!)
  8. They obviously are high on Corbin, even though he needs work I feel like putting him in a bodyguard role would be a step back. I keep thinking that Braun Stowman should be Breeze's eventual bodyguard. Though he could also be a new Wyatt family member (they did run that "Monsters are real" trailer for him before he got injured). Plus, there's that other big guy in developmental (my mind is blanking on his name but he looks like a cross between Brock and Maurice Tillet, ie. terrifying) Ah, I found him - Dylan Miley
  9. I think the only thing that could make it more DVDVR would be a police mugshot of Ambrose on the TV after he'd been arrested for INSERT WACKY AMBROSE ANTIC.
  10. The board's punk rock fans might appreciate this shirt of TNA British Bootcamp winner Mark Andrews (Attack Pro is the British indy where he got his start) And obviously everyone should like this shirt. I wanted to get one when I saw Masters wrestle Uhaa Nation in PCW last month, but they didn't have my size.
  11. That Rusev/Big E match is fucking awesome. Probably my favourite of the year. I need to watch some Rush.
  12. This story about Dolph got posted on WWE.com this morning. I swear the WWE web team read this board. Their piece on why Chris Masters deserves a place in NXT actually reads like a March Madness post.
  13. Voted Pentagon Jr. Neville has improved a lot this year, he wasn't really my type of guy at all but I thought he did a good job with the shades of grey angle with Zayn, he's been pretty good at promos and I enjoyed the matches with Zayn and Owens a lot. Great athlete too. But I think Pentagon is better at what he is doing, than Neville is at what he is doing. Bad question as Pentagon Jr. specialises in being fucking badass. I'd take his running wind-up chops and nonchalant superkicks every time.
  14. Awww shit. Crappy draw for Big Ryck. This is beyond saving for Ryck but I thought I would offer up one of the finest bits of hossery this year. His booking in this 10 man was just about perfect. For some reason I thought he destroyed Mascarita Sagrada with a lariat in this match but it must have been another one. Oh well, goodnight sweet prince. I voted Rusev. Now I cry tears of burly sadness.
  15. If Lucha Underground goes in here, I'm putting forward Prince Puma and Big Ryck. Puma was a pretty good fiery babyface this year. Who's been better than Ryck in terms of superheavyweights? I mean proper "what will it take to knock him off his feet" type guys, not guys like Owens or Harper. Lesnar probably counts but I am blanking on other people who were as good a hoss as Ryck (I like Rusev a lot though he is not consistently booked as dominant, his selling is really good though). Sorry if this seems a discussion unsuited to the lucha bracket.
  16. Striker and Vampiro were ruining that analogy during Cage's debut too. I was screaming A CAGE IS NOT A MACHINE IT IS A STRUCTURE all the way through that four way. I am also a fan of Pimpinela Escarleta's extremely unathletic ranas and springboards. All that gender confusion buys the valuable minutes needed to pull those moves off. I'm enjoying the rotation of fueds between the weeks but would like even a quick mention of the dudes who are missing like Mundo and Muertes. Watch out Crew. Big Ryck could be bringing backup.
  17. This is from TNA's Offical Instagram. I think they are taking polaroids of the TV in the office.
  18. Another good show. Four way was great and everyone had a chance to look good - I expected Cage to massacre everyone but while that was the final outcome, everyone bar the dude was wasn't Aerostar had a cool moment or two. I liked Angelico a lot, I hope he stays around. He has goofy stoner charisma and his dive was nuts, his "huh" reaction was great. I wish he didn't throw clotheslines two feet above everyone's head; they are going to duck it anyway dude, you are killing me. Cage looked like a beast but even in the confines of LU looked short; I can see why the WWE passed on him, he's essentially Tank Toland. Vamp is terrible on commentary but is likable, and I think he's getting (a bit) better. I can't believe they didn't edit out the bit where he said that wrestlers in Lucha Underground show "compassion", when he clearly meant passion. His explanation of what it would mean to have a style that was a mix of Dr Wagner and Atlantis (or whoever) was utterly nonsensical. I think Striker was ribbing him just asking that. Cuerno and Drago are stuck in a bit of a holding pattern but their match had some bezerk dives so that is ok. I agree that Puma and Fenix will have better matches, but it was still fun. Them trading dives at the beginning like normal dudes trade punches was great, and showed that it was two elite high flyers trying to raise the bar on each other. I've only seen a handful of Ricochet matches from PWG and nothing from Dragon Gate, though I am going to look some stuff up. Is his Puma work the best he has done, or would others say he's better without the mask? He's probably my favourite guy to watch right now (though Big Ryck is running him close), I love the Flair/Fargo strut build up to a dive. Seriously, where was Ryck? If Dario is getting in new muscle to chase Puma, at least have him in a fued against Mascarita Sagrada. Maybe Sagrada could bring in an army of minis to take down the Crew.
  19. Jeru's D Original is one of his darkest sounding beats, but still totally Premo. Classic: Capone n Noreaga, Grand Royal - total headbanger Gangstarr, Militia III - weirdly enough I've posted nothing but his most sinister sounding stuff. I'll drop back in and post more upbeat tracks another time. Great thread by the way!
  20. This elicited a hearty guffaw. Not to throw the cat among the pigeons, but should Lucha Underground be discussed in this forum now? If they get Alberto and Rey on board they have more of a claim to the #2 spot than the likes of EVOLVE (I just want more people to talk about Lucha Underground because it is fun as hell).
  21. The first 10 man match was great. Loads of people got a chance to shine and I thought that Fenix pinning Puma was a good way of showing that the roster is competitive after the first couple of weeks focused on Puma/Mundo as the main event guys. Cuerno's tope was INSANE. Would have made more sense for the Battle Royal to be first on the show, as it was less exciting in comparison to the first match. Final elimination dragged a little. Also, would have made more sense if Fenix had to wrestle again straight after his win, rather than Muerte. Totally loving Lucha Underground so far though. This is the freshest feeling new fed in quite some time.
  22. Ohoh, what's this? I think my bullshit detector is tingling.Well, that's what he's claiming anyway.www.theguardian.com/football/2014/sep/16/tim-wiese-germany-goalkeeper-wwe-wrestling-offer
