  1. MAESTRO Bradley Cooper plays Leonard Bernstein and directs this biopic -- in theaters Nov. 22 and Netflix Dec. 20.
  2. It would have helped if we saw more than 3-4 introductions. L.A. Knight seemed to have vanished from the match until slightly before the Omos elimination. With all these new names and faces that are part of the WWE Universe, it wouldn't have hurt to show every intro so you'd know who is who.
  3. Took my daughter to see TMNT: Mutant Mayhem last night at the "old people" theater near our home. I say "old people" because ... -- There are eight screens, with each screen fitting at least 125 people. -- "Oppenheimer" was sold out for all screenings. There was a line of about 40-50 people sitting outside its screen for a 7:30p showing as we walked in. "Sound of Freedom" also had a "sold out" notice for a 7pm screening. -- Total number of people in our theater for a 6:50pm showing of Ninja Turtles? A little over 10. Nevertheless, it was decent popcorn fare. Didn't overstay its welcome (only 95 minutes) and there were enough action and jokes to keep the audience entertained. Thought the mix of action and humor was good -- wondered if it would push more in one direction than not, but I didn't notice that. Easter eggs were kept to a minimum (compared to, say, Super Mario Bros., which was pretty much "Easter Egg: The Movie.")
  4. When TNT first launched, it was essentially a precursor to TCM. Turner had just purchased the MGM library, was experimenting with colorizing old films, etc., and wanted a channel to showcase his new toys. Even in those early years, there was definitely a prestige factor to TNT. In addition to the films, they had a Sunday night NFL game for at least a year with pre-game shows in the stadium parking lots -- think Larry King was one of the pre-game hosts. TBS was the southern-fried channel for the longest time, even when it had NBA basketball for a time in the 80s. It wasn't until Time Warner completely took over from Turner that the "old" TBS vestige vanished (goodbye wrestling, Braves baseball, "Andy Griffith" reruns, etc.)
  5. Yes, I had to look it up. New masked guy is "Zyon" and he's apparently Viktor from The Ascension. I didn't understand this angle either but happy that Viktor is working again (thought he retired)
  6. Randy Meisner Dies: Eagles Founding Guitarist Was 77 – Deadline Frontman on "Take It to the Limit," which he wrote. I recall reading he had a host of mental and physical health issues in his later years. Also performed with Ricky Nelson's Stone Canyon Band and Poco.
  7. CMLL announced the teams for its annual Men's Grand Prix on August 18: TEAM MEXICO: Averno, Dragon Rojo Jr., Angel de Oro, Ultimo Guerrero, Templario, Mascara Dorada 2.0, Volador Jr., Mistico TEAM WORLD: Baliyan Akki, Francesco Akira, Adrian Quest, TJP, Rocky Romero, Samuray del Sol (Kalisto), KUSHIDA, Hiromu Takahashi
  8. Looking through Cagematch on a whim and I saw that Pitbull Gary Wolf has had a couple of matches in 2023 as well. I wouldn't mind seeing RVD, Tajiri, Super Crazy or Little Guido accepting the challenge. Someone mentioned Masato Tanaka -- he appears to be coming to the U.S. on a tour in October (including a show with DEFY) -- I'd be open to him fighting Moxley.
  9. Scott Steiner's Shoney's restaurant shut down in the summer of 2020 because of the pandemic. Scott made mention a few years back about "opening a sports bar" in the Atlanta area once the pandemic subsides, but nothing's come of it. I ate at the restaurant in 2019 prior to moving from the Atlanta area to central Florida -- typical Shoney's menu and options, and there was a small "shrine" with photos from Scott's wrestling career. Scott wasn't there -- I was told that he was usually at the eatery 2-3 times a week, and his role was primarily going from table to table, greeting customers and asking how things were. Got the feeling that Scott's wife or someone else close to him ran the business with Scott serving as the "face" of the restaurant (which can be common with a celeb-centric eatery). I once asked a friend about Abby's restaurant in Atlanta -- I was warned it was in the "worst part of the city" and the eatery was the only reason to go there. Said the food was meh (the ribs were far better than the Chinese food) but lots of memorabilia to gaze at. Never went there.
  10. I enjoyed Blood and Guts, but it did feel off at times. I could have sworn Kota asked every member of the BCC team if he could kick them in the face before breaking up all the submissions. Camera issues aside (it seems like every promotion has these problems) -- the PAC double foot stomp through the table was great, and Yuta was a beast.
  11. Vampiro mentioned a few years back that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but has been working somewhat steadily ever since, including a couple of dates in the U.S. last year. Can't imagine this guy passing any sort of physical (if he's telling the truth), but this is wrestling.
  12. CBS's strike-centric fall schedule ... ‘Yellowstone’, ‘SEAL Team’ CBS Fall 2023 Schedule – Deadline Episodes of "Yellowstone" will air on the Eye this fall, as well as the UK version of "Ghosts" and at least three Paramount+ originals.
  13. And former WCW wrestler Lash LeRoux (Corporal Cajun) will appear at GCW's Chicago show Sept. 1 for his first match since 2006 or so. He's now a pastor in Alabama and apparently having a pro wrestler's take on a midlife crisis.
  14. Inside Don King's alliance with new MLW champion Alex Kane (nypost.com) Court Bauer explains how MLW got Don King involved with his company, suggesting that he'll make future appearances in due time (probably via video since he's 91).
  15. Domestic Box Office For Jul 4, 2023 - Box Office Mojo If you bet money that the #1 film at the U.S. box office on July 4 would be a crowd-funded "Christian action-thriller" from the studio behind "The Chosen," you should just go to Vegas right now and be a full-time betting guru.
  16. Won't Eddie be in Japan for the G1 during Blood and Guts?
  17. Pluto TV will launch a Godzilla channel next month, featuring over 30 films and the late 90s animated series.
  18. Paxton Whitehead, the British-born character actor who personified the "upper crust snob" in 80s and 90s film and TV, has died at 85. Probably best known as the econ professor in Back to School. https://youtu.be/umKFAbLoUxQ
  19. With my daughter visiting family out of state this summer, this means I get the opportunity to go to the theater and see a "grownup movie," one where the audience is older and the film is targeted to adults. I checked out the Yogi Berra documentary "It Ain't Over" over the weekend. Unlike most documentaries featured in this forum, this isn't controversial -- it's a tribute to the baseball great and a big-screen thesis as to why Berra was more than just a commercial pitchman and caricature. Through archive material (including plenty of commercials and news interviews) and commentary from teammates, family, friends and others, we learn about Berra's life from childhood through old age -- the Purple Heart recipient who was on the beach at D-Day, the 10-time World Series champion player, talented coach, family man and baseball diplomat. And at only 96 minutes, the film breezes through and doesn't feel like a slog. There was a great focus on why Yogi should be considered one of baseball's all-time greats on the field ... Several minutes are devoted to the World Series "play at the plate" involving Yogi and Jackie Robinson (which a strong emphasis that the two were great friends off the field) and Yogi being fired as Yankee manager in 1985 and his self-imposed exile from the Yankees as long as George Steinbrenner ran the team. I did forget that ... Also an odd celebrity cameo or two ...
  20. Ten minutes of action from the Eric Bischoff-produced "MatRats" promotion from 2001 that was targeted to teens.
  21. Loved Christian Cage's antics, but I thought Wardlow and Luchasaurus didn't gel well. The ending run seemed flat with part of the camera in the ring (and the ref appearing to trip over it after the match -- made the ref look a bit dumb). Surprised no one in the back called an audible and have the ref quietly ask Luchasaurus to kick the object out of the ring -- or do some shenanigans on one side of the ring while Christian grabbed it from the other side. Andrade/Buddy was far better than I expected -- surprised there was no mention of Los Ingobernables, though I would like to see Andrade/Dralistico/Preston vs. HOB (even if it ends in Dralistico and Preston turn on Andrade at the end). Women's match also overdelivered -- Skye needs a title by the end of the year. Am I crazy, but did Kevin Kelly refer to Action Andretti as "Action Andrade" at least twice? Also referred to Andrade as "Andraid" at least once. (Also it seems every announcer pronounces Okada's first name differently)
  22. Per CMLL Informa ... Mascara Dorada 2.0 is in fact Panterita Del Ring Jr. and will wrestle under that name exclusively beginning 6/30. Original Mascara Dorada (Gran Metallik in WWE) returns to CMLL as "Metalik" on July 14, so whatever immigration/passport issues he's had since his WWE release looks to have been resolved. They also announced a tag team hair match on July 14. Know zip about either side but, based on how they were dressed, "La Ola Negra" appear to be Mr. Hughes cosplayers. One member of said team, an American named Dark Magic, sounds like the host of an R&B love songs radio request show.
  23. Didn't Ventura suggest he would be pro-Megabucks at SummerSlam 88?
  24. Naito is booked in CMLL June 26-30 as part of a FantasticaMania Mexico tour, so I'm thinking he may show up in Canada that Sunday. (Bushi, Desperado, TM 4 also on that CMLL tour. Curious if AEW could book Titan on this show given Mexican wrestling politics)
  25. Bryan Turner posted a few fancams from ECW house shows in Georgia. Here's Super Crazy vs. Ikuto Hidaka ... IIkuto Hidaka vs Super Crazy - ECW Wrestling Fan Cam Augusta, Georgia 12/04/1999 - YouTube Nick Dinsmore has also posted a bunch of old OVW and HWA TV matches, including clips of the first OVW episode and the next five shows in full. A sample of what he's posted ... "Mr. Wrestling" Nick Dinsmore vs The Prototype John Cena. 2001. - YouTube (HWA show at OVW's arena) Nick Dinsmore & “Ironman” Rob Conway vs “Handsome” Jason Lee & Trailer Park Trash - YouTube TPT hailing from "everywhere because his house is mobile" maybe a Top 10 all-time intro.
