  1. CMLL - GRAND PRIX INTERNACIONAL DE AMAZONAS /ARENA MÉXICO / 27-10-23 - YouTube 15 minutes of highlights (or more like 10 minutes of highlights and five minutes of PATRIOTISM) of Friday night's CMLL Women's Grand Prix. Since CMLL rarely posts any recent matches for free, this may be the best we can get.
  2. Happy to see there were others who noticed the strange pinfall in the Santana-Ortiz match. I was thinking Santana was going to try the Burning Hammer before switching to the Blue Thunder Bomb. Unfortunately, that clumsy pinfall (and no one in the ring noticing this or appearing to care about it) put a damper on what was a decent street fight. Anna Jay to her friends: You're going to be on my side for this match! Friends to Anna Jay: We're going to be on your side for this match! Friends walk back to the locker room after Anna is introduced. At least have Abadon scare them to the back or something. Our favorite zombie looked fine in the four-way. The double lung blower spot on Willow and Skye was new, and there was energy in their spots and they did a good job trying to avoid the tropes in their Dark and Elevation matches (They probably wrestled the same match on the YouTube shows about 10-12 times). And the fans looked like they enjoyed seeing them again. Is Abby going to lose tonight? Probably. But now I want to see them have a cinematic match with Toni Storm set in classic horror films for some reason. (Also have a gut feeling tonight's match may determine Abadon's future with the promotion. Injuries aside, AEW never seems to know what to do with them given the uniqueness and presentation of the character. Can't job out a wrestling zombie, but you also can't give a big push to someone who is green as grass, albeit working hard at improving. Perhaps Tony can reward them for their hard work with that Japan excursion they've asked for from time to time).
  3. Richard Moll has died at age 80 ... Night Court - Bull Invents the Human Pretzel - YouTube Coors, 1987 11 26, Richard Moll needs help with the ladies - YouTube
  4. Tessa Blanchard is now bringing her "redemption tour" to CMLL, where she competes Friday in the Women's Grand Prix. Here's a fan cam of her first match in CMLL, a 10-woman eliminator with Tessa/Mei Suruga/Sumie Sakai/Makoto/Johnnie Robbie (ex-Robbie Rocket from WOW) vs. Reyna Isis/Amapola/Skadi/Hera/Olympia. Let's check to see what Abadon has been up to ahead of their AEW return Friday. 3:30 -- Abadon is America. Seriously, that's a pretty original spot.
  5. Per Meltzer, PCO has re-signed with TNA/Impact. Had a feeling something was up when he won his match at the PPV.
  6. MaxiVision Challenge - Starring Hulk Hogan & Richard Frick! - YouTube Hulk Hogan and his wrestling buddies endorse an unlicensed Nintendo cartridge in this 1992 infomercial.
  7. THE BOYS IN THE BOAT | Official Trailer - YouTube THE BOYS IN THE BOAT George Clooney-directed film about the University of Washington rowers who won gold in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Opens Christmas Day.
  8. (1) Frasier | Series Premiere | Full Episode | Paramount+ - YouTube Paramount+ posted the first episode of the revived "Frasier" on YT. Liked the tribute to John Mahoney, but reviving this seems pointless.
  9. From the Farm, to Our Table by Sarah Rowe, Amanda Morrow, Hardcover | Barnes & Noble® (barnesandnoble.com) Sarah Rowe, AKA the WWE's Valhalla, has penned a children's book on sustainable living and farming that will be released next spring. $19+tax for what's essentially a book for pre-schoolers and kindergartners seems quite steep. $10 maybe.
  10. And the nominee for strangest wrestling crossover of the year ... Gil Thorp by Henry Barajas and Rod Whigham for October 09, 2023 - GoComics Guess one of the writers is a pro wrestling fan. Next spring, a high school rodeo team is launched with home matches at the Terry Funk Palace.
  11. Report: Julia Hart, Lee Johnson taking time off from AEW - WON/F4W - WWE news, Pro Wrestling News, WWE Results, AEW News, AEW results (f4wonline.com) Congrats to the happy couple. Since it's October, time to call Abadon to take over Julia's spooky quotient.

  13. David McCallum from "The Man from UNCLE" and "NCIS" has died at 90. Just turned 90 a week ago ... David McCallum Dead: Star of 'NCIS,' 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' Was 90 (variety.com) Also had big roles in "The Great Escape" and "The Greatest Story Ever Told." Don't watch NCIS (but my parents do), but he appeared on the show for 20 seasons, though in recent years he was down to 3-4 shows a season given his age.
  14. The Mean Girls movie musical will now be a theatrical release. It was originally planned for Paramount+. Film will be released January 12, 2024.
  15. The Mogul Embassy Answers Everything | Hey! (EW), 9/17/23 - YouTube An above-average RJ City interview this weekend.
  16. There was a girl in my middle school who was a grade below me whose last name was DiBiase. She pronounced it Dih-bee-ACE. This was around 1987-1988, so a few classmates who liked wrestling teased her about whether everybody has a price, where Virgil was, etc. My sister, who was on a softball team with her, explained to her who Ted DiBiase was and she just shook her head.
  17. RIP Gary Wright, 80 ... Gary Wright - Dream Weaver (1975 Live) (HD) - YouTube
  18. 1985 AWA featured its ESPN debut, Pro Wrestling USA shows with Crockett, the Remco action figures ... there was some glimmer of hope at the time, but it was fading fast.
  19. Jun Akiyama (c) vs. Survival Tobita (GAORA TV Title Match) (AJPW 2018-05-19) - YouTube A match straight out of someone's e-fed. Apparently, Tobita won a battle royal to earn this match.
  20. In another timeline, I can see Bray Wyatt succeed as a screenwriter or author. He had such a creative mind I would have loved to have seen what he could have done for a movie, a TV anthology or a book. After watching Bray's Firefly Funhouse bits, I wondered if he would have been able to translate that to, say, Adult Swim -- do a demented version of those local kids TV shows of the 60s and 70s, have a celebrity guest star every week, air odd cartoons, etc. Not everything worked, but Wyatt was always trying and coming up with ideas. Some ideas may have been out there, but he was never sitting on his hands. Imagine Bray debuting during the Attitude Era or the early days of Ruthless Aggression -- he would have been a main event player from the get-go, throwing him in there with prime Foley or Taker. As someone who learned that I was on the autism spectrum in my mid-40s, I've wondered if Bray may have been on the spectrum in some form. Over the years, I've read in the sheets and elsewhere about how he was a creative genius, yet stubborn and unwilling to budge when it came to his ideas; a friendly man who, at the same time, could frustrate co-workers and bosses with alleged stubbornness and a reputed refusal to compromise. Complicated, yet fascinating.
  21. First Terry Funk memory for me was this match. Went from being a complete unknown (in WWF terms) to the most hated man on the planet in five minutes. Bruno casually stepping away from kayfabe to let the fans know he is talented, yet dangerous was also a plus. (Lord Alfred Hayes did the same on the TNT skit where Funk beat up Tony Garea in the saloon. That's you get a Hogan threat over -- mention that Terry Funk is a guy who's been around, never backs down from a fight and will do anything and everything to win.) That first memory also helped me discover a Funk trademark -- always giving the jobber the hope spot in an enhancement match. He had no reason to flip around the ring like a pinball and do the complete 360 out of the ring on the dropkick. But he wanted the fans to believe that the jobber had a chance. Re-watched the WM2 tag match with he and Dory against JYD/Santana last night. Terry makes the match a lot better than it should through insane bumping. You can tell he wanted to get something out of JYD, who is clearly entrenched in minimalist workrate mode at this point in his career, so Terry bumps like a psycho for him. He pops back up in WCW, somehow makes Ric Flair a babyface (which seemed like an impossibility for me when I was a stupid teen) -- felt like the late 80s version of the MJF transformation, and puts on quite the matches with Flair. It was only recently I saw some of his FMW/IWA Japan deathmatch wars with Cactus, Onita, etc. He had no reason to do this -- I presume he was OK financially, but he manages to get guys like Cactus over and re-invents himself. I saw Tod Gordon mentioning that ECW likely would not have mainstream acceptance if not for Terry's willingness to work these shows and do whatever it took to get his opponents and the promotion over. Amazon Prime has a few Memphis/Texas/USWA videos available for viewing (at least as of a few months ago), and I saw Funk and Lawler go at it before a 3/4-empty crowd in Memphis in the 90s. Again, Terry had no reason to go all out, but he didn't believe in a half-assed performance. Whether it's in front of 10,000 or 10 people, Terry Funk gave it his all. My regret is that I never wrote to Terry Funk to thank him. He answered fan mail for several years from his Amarillo home before moving into assisted living. From all accounts, he was always kind outside the ring, answered fan questions with grace, and appreciative that the fans remembered and loved him.
  22. His publicist announced today that Bob Barker, longtime host of "The Price is Right," has died at 99. He lived close to 100 as possible without going over. Blooper! 23. Looks like Lacey Evans is opening up a restaurant in South Carolina ... Former WWE Wrestler leaves the ring, opens new cafe in Beaufort - Explore Beaufort SC Honestly, her gimmick came off as a David McLane dream scenario -- she would be a perfect fit for WOW if she wants to keep wrestling.
  24. From last week: Baliyan Akki/Francesco Akira/Adrian Quest/Samuray Del Sol vs. Angel de Oro/Niebla Rojo/Euforia/Mephisto
  25. I know when the first photos of "Maestro" came out, there was a lot of criticism over Cooper trying to look "more Jewish" with a fake nose and only added fuel to the controversy over non-Jews playing iconic Jewish figures. I was in high school when Bernstein died and I recall seeing some of his conducting on TV -- his nose was smaller than Coopers fake honker. The British Carey Mulligan playing a half-Costa Rican woman is also a tad odd.
