  1. Yeah, way too many power moves being suggested here, although I like the idea of him stealing the STJoe.  Reigns should be getting over with sudden, smart violence.  I want to see him doing stuff like looking as if he's turning his back on his opponent only to wheel round for a spinning lariat of doom.

  2. There's some good stuff in the Time magazine archives from the '20s and '30s.  It used to be publicly available, but it's gone subscriber-only in recent years.  If your library has a sub it's well worth looking through.  I don't recall any lengthy pieces but the wry prose style is such a pleasure.  And where else are you going to go to read about Dick Shikat and Danno O'Mahoney?

  3. When I watch Daniel Bryan wrestle I know exactly who he is. He is a man who refuses to hold back, who pushes himself every single moment he is in the ring. A man who will exert every last iota of energy in his body to win. Hell yes I'll cheer for that. He's the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. When I watch Cesaro in the ring I see someone who is a fucking great wrestler. He knows all of these amazing wrestling things, and I'm a real fan of wrestling things so that's cool. But I couldn't tell you much about the man. He's, um, a bit grim?

And I can't believe I've got to be the first one to say this, but has anyone else noticed that his uppercuts are sort of goofy? He swings his arms about like a pantomime marching soldier. And I know boxing uppercuts and European uppercuts are different things, but both are supposed to make contact with the underside of the chin, and Cesaro throws them at the backs of people's heads. Something's really wrong there guys. It's okay, you can all agree with me now.

  4. 1) #GREGGmalution

    2) I hate to agree with Matt D this close to March Madness, but I've been annoyed by Bryan's limb selling too. It's definitely a thing.

    3) I worry that there is a theory of booking that says "Never give the people what they want, because then they've got no reason to come back for more."

    4) The trouble with Bryan's story arc is that it's not been about Bryan chasing the belt for a long time. It's been Bryan vs. bad booking, and explicitly so. The logical payoff is him going over HHH at Mania, and even the ref can count the number of people who want to see that match.

  5. So many close calls, but there's only one best tag team that never was.  You need HBK from before he became selfish, being flung from post to post and selling like a trooper.  Then, like some bellowing half-blind idiot god, Stan Hansen comes in to clear house.  They can even have matching cowboy hats and work a homoerotic big brother/little brother routine.

  6. I am half-watching the first ever episode of Impact.  First face on screen: Don West.  So far we've had The Flying Elvises, the Johnsons, Jackie Fargo and Rickie Steamboat cutting promos, a catfight, Scott Hall, frequent ECW references, and an angle where all the good old Southern boys have a go at Truth for speaking truth.  I foresee only great things.

  7. Miz's career best performance was his I Quit match vs. Cena at Over The Limit 2011.  Part of this was Cena being the inde-fucking-fatigable hero, but it wasn't a total carry job by any means.  Miz and Riley had control for around 80% of the time and looked as if they enjoyed every inch of hurt that they laid at Cena's door.  Miz even loses a battle of words with some little kid planted at ringside.  It was a bit of a bullshit finish but that was no fault of his, that was a performance anyone could have been proud of.  Top quality villainy.

  8. I have no knowledge of lucha, but does anyone do a gimmick where in costume and name, they're playing a tribute to retired, popular wrestlers? That would actually be kinda cool for the WWE to do. I would buy a Hot Rod lucha mask.

I don't know lucha either, but in Japan Ebessan did loads of tribute gimmicks.  Ebesstan Hansen was brilliant.  WWE should absolutely use that idea, it would a great way of using someone like Zack Ryder.
