When Who does something I don’t like, I try not to sweat it: they’ll probably just undo it or forget all about it at some point.

I was thinking more specifically of the Chibnal era, since they pretty much ignored that earlier instance, to the extent that a major plot point for the Matt Smith era was having to get more regenerations because he was already at 13.

I didn’t love the bi-generation, but NuWho is 18 years old at this point, so I don’t blame them for trying new things (even if the new things seem a lot like old things). They’ve already retconned the Doctor into having lived multiple lives before the First Doctor, said that he’s not really from Gallifrey, and killed off all of the Time Lords and turned them into super cybermen, or whatever. So this ain’t much.

NPH’s accents were funny. He looked like he was having a good time. This was pretty mid-level RTD stuff, which, admittedly, is better than mid-level Moffat or (ew) Chibnal.

Donna was also the first NuWho companion who didn’t want to bang the Doctor, which was a nice change of pace. She’s far from my favourite, but she’s at least different. Bill, Clara, Amy, and Yasmin barely have distinguishing character traits.

Despite some janky green screen, the best Who episode since the Capaldi years.

It’s kind of amazing that Zero One still exists. They’re basically smaller than regional indies like Kyushu or Osaka Pro, and Masato Tanaka is the only recognizable name.

The second two Capaldi seasons are quite good, I think, after a pretty mixed bag/ultimately disappointing first season. Capaldi is also kind of a weird actor, in that he’s more limited than some of the other Doctors, but also is way more capable of subtlety of emotion than most of them.

I think it’s interesting that NJPW runs a tournament that their top guys just sit out. Not even a criticism! Just funny that they can say “yeah, we’re not even booking our main eventers on most of these cards.”

The Eastern Lariat dudes speculated that AJPW hot-shotted the TC to Nak and then rushed the Kento rematch because Nak will be elsewhere (eg NJPW) in the new year.

It felt very rushed. I thought the gender stuff was a bit on-the-nose, but they’re broadcasting from TERF island, so I’ll allow it.

I’d bet Ren Ayabe, personally. They could use some juniors, though.

I enjoyed it. It was a solid, mid-tier RTD effort. Admittedly, I hate when the sonic screwdriver is a wand and the Doctor is a wizard, but I’ve come to accept its inevitability.

Netflix falling through really messed things up. You have what is, by TV standards, an extremely cheap show with an intense fan base. You also have a show that seems made for streaming (that is, a 90 minute TV show isn’t really attractive to network TV). Theyre going to give it another go next year. I’m curious if the timing, SAG strike, and non-Kickstarter were the problem, or a lack of interest. I think many of the fans (even some of the haters of the new version) don’t really grasp that the show isn’t popular enough to survive except as a crowd-funded model. You want more episodes, you’re going to have to pay for them. TV is expensive—even cheaply made, shitty looking tv.

They also announced two more: BALLISTICA BATTLETRUCK Additionally, they made some changes to the budget (basically giving up on shooting/having offices anywhere but LA) and lowered their goal to $4 million. They’re now at over $2 million, meaning that the Mega Turkey Day marathon needs to rake just under $2 million for season 14 to happen.

Film #3 for a potential season 14 is PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, which makes a lot of sense, though if they’re going classic badfilm, I’d have gone for THE GIANT CLAW.
