Chuck Mangione, probably best known for "Feels So Good" and the Cannonball Run theme song (and being Hank Hill's favorite musician) has passed at the age of 84. https://www.whec.com/top-news/rochester-music-legend-chuck-mangione-has-died-at-age-84/

Say what you will about his later years, but there's a pretty good chance that none of us are here and this place doesn't exist without Hulk Hogan.

The difference is that people tune in to Fox News knowing exactly what they're going to get from Fox News. Fox News programming isn't "running off" anyone on the left because 99% of them aren't going to be watching it anyway. Much like MSNBC isn't "running off" anyone on the right because they're not going out of their way to watch MSNBC in the first place. Colbert, Kimmel, et al make it perfectly clear that they believe (at least) half of America is stupid. If they were on Fox News or MSNBC that wouldn't be an issue. If they're on network television, particularly in a genre whose viewership is continuing to skew significantly older, it's an issue.

https://twitter.com/JamesLarsenPFN/status/1947819903953543440 For some reason, the UFL has decided that they're relocating half of their teams for next season. The Birmingham Stallions, Houston Roughnecks, Memphis Showboats, and Michigan Panthers are no more. Or will be no more. https://x.com/The_UFM/status/1947820484256583694 The new locations will apparently be Boise, Columbus, Florida (could be pretty much anywhere), and Kentucky (presumably Louisville).

Will probably deserve its own thread, but Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76 just weeks after his final show. https://news.sky.com/story/ozzy-osbourne-dies-just-weeks-after-farewell-show-13400248 Natural did post this as its own topic so there you go. https://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/11419-rip-ozzy-osbourne/

I mean, there could be, sure. But at least a couple of the late-night shows had already dialed back their production schedule. The Tonight Show had already gone to four nights/week rather than 5, and I thought at least one of the other shows did, too. I might be wrong on that. I don't want to politicize it too much, but honestly. . .when you make it abundantly clear that you hate half of your potential audience, you'd better be funny and entertaining enough to attract enough of the other half to make that fact irrelevant. Stephen Colbert. . .isn't. Jimmy Kimmel isn't. Jimmy Fallon isn't. Seth Myers isn't. Then there's this: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/stephen-colbert-late-show-ends-future-1236319676/ The average age of a Colbert viewer, according to this article, is 68 years old. That is, to put it mildly, unsustainable. I'd imagine that a lot of the late night shows are seeing the same thing because the older viewers are the ones who are still actually watching network TV on a regular basis.

Mind-boggling that a show that's, essentially, "dude sits behind a desk and talks to other people for 30 minutes" can lose that kind of money. (I say 30 minutes because for a 60-minute block you can figure about 15 minutes of commercials and then block off 5-6 minutes for the monologue.) Worth noting that Paramount just found $1.5 billion to give Trey Parker and Matt Stone for South Park, despite the fact that South Park goes after everyone on the political spectrum and Parker/Stone also criticized the merger between Paramount and Skydance, which are reasons that have been cited for Colbert's firing. Of course, South Park isn't losing $40 million a year, either. Late night officially died when CBS decided they were going to screw Craig Ferguson out of the Letterman slot they had written into his contract and bring in Colbert.

I'm now up to six neighbors on my island: Rudy (original) Plucky (original) Weber Nana Flora Cephalobot None of them are actively annoying to me or anything, but I might try to get Cephalobot to leave at some point because every time I see him the only thought that goes through my head is "Bring out the Gimp." Tried to talk a couple of people who were staying at the Campground into moving in but they both shot that down. Whatever.

Missed my window to buy turnips for this week. I forgot that Daisy Mae only hangs out on the island until noon. Ah, well. Paid off my second home loan (98,000) and did all the prep work to get two new people to come to the island, which will put my population up to 6, counting me. I forgot how relaxing this game can be.

Ghost of Tsushima is the only game that I've ever gotten to 100% on my PS account. One of my 2-3 favorite games of all time, if I had to make a list. The only regret I have, as small as it is, was playing the first half or so of the game on "Kurosawa mode." Even though it's cool, once I switched over to color it was like The Wizard of Oz when you realize just how much you're missing out on graphics-wise. -
Oh, believe me, if I would have been able to find my Switch 1 I wouldn't have started fresh. Of course, there would have been 2+ years worth of weeds on my island and probably a bunch of new neighbors, so at least there's no dealing with that. I'll have to do a better job of keeping up with things when the inevitable next installment of this game comes out, hopefully sooner rather than later.

After being unable to locate my Switch after two years (I have a sneaky suspicion it was stolen during our move) and acquiring a Switch 2 last week, I am back on Animal Crossing. Had to start a whole new island and everything but I'm giving it another go for something to do. Judging from the fact that it's been about five months since anyone posted here I'm guessing the DVDVR Animal Crossing community is no more.
