Fake games and scrimmages aren't an NFL game The current refs know the rules - sitting around for 6 months isn't gonna change with how the apply the insane catch rule or make them better at spotting the ball.

Its not all on the NFL The NFL's #1 excuse is that since it runs a "shorter" season (roughly 6 months and around 300 total games for a season) so it really is only a "part time job". IE - officials only work about 20 days a season However - the NFLPA wants part time too because their refs don't want to give up their full time jobs (like how we always used to hear about Ed Hochuli was an attorney) Most NFL officials have high paying full time jobs so they don't "need" the money the NFL would given them for being full time
