  1. I can relate. I'm a Steeler's fan. I root for Ben Roethlisberger for three hours on Sundays and would have no qualms voting him into the Hall of Fame. But, realistically, Ben Roethlisberger was most likely either a sex pest or a rapist in his younger days. I wouldn't want him to meet my daughters.
  2. No. And if the Marvel game was announced for March, I never heard about it. Admittedly, the Marvel game isn't on my radar. I've seen a number of games lately termed as "delayed" by journalists even though the game never had a firm release date (or a release window, in some cases). 15 min video of Elden Ring gameplay is going to be released tomorrow. Of course, the big news of the day is going to be the release of Mr. Driller: Drill Land for Xbox and PlayStation. No? That's not a big deal? Well, I'm looking forward to it anyway. It's probably not a good sign that I get a bit excited when games I already own for the Switch escape and get ported to other next gen consoles. Pre-orders for Turtle Beach's new $380 Series X flight stick sold out in under two hours. Was kinda surprised by that, though I was on the site at noon when pre-orders went on sale, just in case. Website says a new batch will go up for pre-order on the 14th.
  3. I've always thought it's fairly dim to have expectations of people just because they're on tv. I know almost nothing about Rodgers except he plays pro football and dates celebrities. I don't really feel like that's enough info to make any value judgments on who Rodgers is as a person, much less consider him as a role model. As much as I dislike anti-vaxxers, Rodgers is entitled to his opinion and doesn't need my approval (unfortunately). The word games are just too "cute" though. Rodgers defense is that, when he was asked publicly if he was vaccinated, he said he was immunized. Yeah, dude, you want to have a controversial opinion, at least be willing to stand behind it. I'd like to think I'm fairly clever too, but I outgrew my interest in semantics at least by the time I graduated college, probably well before that. Packers say Rodgers followed protocols for unvaccinated around team, but not around media apparently. I hope they have a better explanation than that when NFL comes asking.
  4. I don’t think people being sh*tty is a political thing; If that’s what you are implying. It’s just who we are. The pandemic is just making it harder to pretend we’re something better than we are without being called on it.
  5. I've met a lot of "borderline drunks" in AA and most of us realized at some point that was an excuse. The ones that didn't figure it out for themselves were told that by a counselor. The ones that still didn't figure it out mostly kept right on drinking and made a bigger mess of themselves. Hopefully Mox came to the realization himself that he needed help, and there wasn't some sort of intervention or tipping point, but..... I haven't met too many people with that sort of self-awareness who needed to go to an inpatient program. Usually, they were still in denial even as they were being checked in. When I was 24, I would have sworn on a bible in court that I didn't have a drinking problem. I went because my wife made it clear she was going to do something drastic if I didn't at least attend a session. It took all of one meeting for me to listen to other people's stories and realize I was full of shit and self-denial on the topic.
  6. Does WWE announce when talent goes to rehab or need to take time off due to issues? It seems like they've fallen into a pattern of being vague or just pulling people off tv without explanation. For instance, AJ Styles has missed a few weeks of tv lately due to a "non-injury medical issue.". I have no idea what that means, and honestly, it's none of my business, so that's more than I need to know as it is. Maybe Mox wanted the info put out there, or at least didn't care, but this seems like a personal issue that doesn't need played out in front of the cameras. Granted, it'd be hard to keep the reason for his sudden absence from leaking to Meltzer or Satin, or whatever, but Vince seems to manage it when he wants to.
  7. That’s what Steve Corino looks like these days? We’ll, at least he stopped dying his beard that unnatural brown color.
  8. Crowd seemed pretty happy that Becky retained, so that was probably the right call. I realized this morning that I have very little interest in Becky’s matches right now. She’s been one of the small handful of WWE stars I’ll go out if my way to watch - along with Roman, the Usos, heel Charlotte, AJ, one or two others - but there’s no one on the Raw roster I want to see her work with. Feuds with Bianca or Liv (or Zelina) are easily skippable for me. Women’s division is paper thin and has been for awhile. After the Horsewomen & Asuka, talent dropoff is immense. I’d even welcome Alexia’s return and I’m not normally a fan or hers or the current gimmick. Kind of enjoyed Big E being a bit of an ass & dropping Owens even after Kevin apologized. Babyfaces are usuallly booked to be trusting idiots during heel turns.
  9. Just to clarify: EA canceled Hennig’s Star Wars game several years ago.
  10. Watching the Steelers struggle without a kicker brought back some fun memories. Back in the 90's, I played in a charity golf tournament and got put in a foursome with the then-current Steelers kicker. Tournament was held on an unusually hot spring day and said kicker drank wayyyy too much, so he was more than willing to air his issues with the team out in public. We also found out more about his hot wife than we needed to know. Basically, dude had a "little man" complex and felt he wasn't taken seriously by coaches and teammates. He was surprisingly short, fwiw. For the most part, it didn't sound like people meant it maliciously, but, yeah, even his friends on the team had a habit of making "you're not a real football player. You're just the kicker"-type remarks. He also though that, regardless what was said publicly, coaches and the gm basically thought he was invisible except when he missed a kick. I distinctly remember him telling a story, then turning to us - drink in hand - and practically shouting "M*ther F**ker, wait till I get hurt and then you'll find out how f***ing important I am". Did I mention he was a foul-mouthed drunk? Well, he was. it was oddly endearing, sorta like watching your five-year-old swear. Anyway. from what I can remember, most of the stories he told use were "dog bites man" type stuff. Just offhand remarks that came out wrong or minor slights that the dude blew up more than he needed to. And, of course, he was quite drunk for most of the afternoon. I guess maybe we should have tried to keep drinks out of his hand or shushed him, but, well, the rest of us were young twenty-somethings who needed to blow off some steam too and thought drunken ramblings were mostly funny, so we probably egged him on more than we should have.
  11. Thanks. I brain-cramped on that one. Pat White was qb at WVU when MacAfee was there. Dunno why I typed the wrong name.
  12. I flipped by during the Nakamura tag match and caught Pat McAfee saying "It's a horror show..... with an h". 'Cause a whore-or show would be something completely different and a little too edgy even for Fox. We don't deserve Pat McAfee. He's just so damn enthusiastic about the product. Best WWE commentator in a long while.
  13. I feel like more than a couple cult leaders have used this analogy with their followers - right before that nosy reporter went missing and was later found buried in the garden.
  14. Honestly, besides providing paychecks for a few people (and it sounds like those folks might be just as well off taking indie bookings somewhere else those weekends), is there any real need for ROH to come back? It's likely going to be a shadow of its former self next year, which is... redundant?..... because it's been a shadow of its former self for a long time. I basically feel like 2022 ROH like I did about post-shutdown Chikara. Thanks for the memories, but everyone except you has moved on, so.....
  15. Indie game Little Devil Inside confirmed for tomorrow’s State or Play. I’m guessing it’s going to be pushed into 2022, but I’d be thrilled to be wrong and get a December release date instead.
  16. LIES! You'd be marking out like a giddy schoolgirl alongside the rest of us if this guy came down to ringside with Andrade:
  17. I feel like Ric coming in as Andrade's manager would have been interesting, but maybe counterproductive for Andrade. As in, how long is Ric going to play second banana to his not-son-in-law? Ric coming in as Andrade's mouthpiece/heater, then deciding that the act would be better if he was the star would not be at all surprising. I think Ric gets into AEW but not for while yet. Tony Khan will wait for memories of DSotR to fade, and, honestly, DSotR probably isn't watched by enough people to be as influential as some people want it to be. I'm not crazy about Andrade wanting to get his "family" into AEW because he hasn't been there that long or proven he can draw money for them. but, on the other hand, I dunno why a promoter would turn down Rush, Dragon Lee, or Charlotte Flair. Yeah, I'd prefer to see her retire when done with WWE. That's not me bashing on her. I think she's great as a performer and mostly think the complaints about her work and push are ridiculous. But, it also seems like she might have some issues that are probably exacerbated by being in the business and having Ric for a Dad. I can only imagine the boatload of issues I would have if I had philandering man-child Ric as a Dad. And then there are the fans, a fair percentage of whom dislike her and think anything about her is fair game. Scroll back in this thread a couple pages and you'll see a couple people refer to her as a "Frankenstein monster" and an "emerging drag queen". Presumably this is in reference to her alleged plastic surgery. The irony is that, if she actually were a drag queen, people would a lot less comfortable commenting on her appearance. Anyway, go somewhere and be happy. I would guess she's made quite a bit from wrestling. On the other hand, her significant other is still active. And she apparently really enjoys performing for the crowd. And she got into wrestling because of Reid (In the ESPN 30 for 30 on Ric, she said something about not intending to get into wrestling until Reid died, then feeling compelled to follow through for his. Living his dream, basically). Also, Ric's her dad. Ric seems incapable of giving up the spotlight and stepping out of character, Could very well be that show biz in in her DNA.
  18. Honestly, if someone gave me a bitcoin, I'd have no idea what to do with it. I'd have to google the damn thing. I feel like i should be more wrinkly at my advanced age.
  19. Well was 13-17 over 2 1/2 seasons. Three of his 13 wins came against my alma mater, WVU. I'm sort of interested in Wells. His career is fairly similar to WVU's current coach, Neil Brown. Both are younger guys in their 40's. both have less than ten years hc experience, both came from small schools (Troy and Utah State) and have/had similar records in the Big 12, salaries are roughly the same, etc.). The difference is that Matt Wells' buyout was $7.5 million. A huge amount of money, but not an amount that will keep you from getting fired in the Power 5. WVU gave Brown a contract extension earlier this year (after 5-7 and 6-4 seasons) that locked him up through 2026. He collects 100% of the contract value if fired before 2025, so his buyout is $20 million after this year, $16.5 mil after next year, $13 mil if fired after the 2023 season, etc (after 2024, the buyout is 85% of the seven or eight million still left on the deal). There's a lot of sentiment to fire Brown now unless the year somehow improves dramatically, but WVU probably won't take that kind of hit. He could be here 3-4 more seasons even if we go 4-8 or 5-7 this year (WVU is current 3-4 and will probably will be the underdog in most of its remaining games. I like Brown. From all accounts, he's a good, standup guy and I've been impressed the couple times I've met him, But, not a lot right now is convincing me he's the guy to get WVU back to prominence. Dana Holgorson couldn't win games against Texas and Oklahoma, but he won most of the games he was expected to, usually kept us high in the polls until near the end of the season, sent a fair number of guys to the pros, and brought a Heisman candidate to Morgantown, etc. WVU is a fair ways away from any of that right now. Hopefully, Brown can turn it around. If not, his contract extension is going to be lightning rod for him and the AD that gave it to him.
  20. Edit: Somehow posted without meaning to.
  21. As "season premieres" go, this was fairly skippable. I ff'ed through large chunks of it this morning and finished the show in less than an hour. Most of that was the main event. WWE wrestlers still not being able to comprehend how steps on ladders and hooks work is annoying. I kinda hate the visual of one guy atop the ladder fooling with the briefcase and not being able to unlatch it, or waving his arms in the air as he tries to reach it but can't, Makes the wrestler look like a bit of a dolt and this trope happens in every ladder match. Maybe WWE should teach a class at the PC in ladder climbing and unhooking things. Still main event was good though I don't enjoy the cringeworthy spots much. No idea why guys agree to take some of those bumps. Opening six man was ok, though I kinda chuckled at WWE kicking off the new season with.... three tag teams who have feuded recently on Smackdown. And, honestly, picking the winner out of those three was kinda easy. Dirty Dawgs job more often than not and Alpha Academy jobs except when they need to try to make them look like a real threat for a short tv feud. For that matter, the outcome of the ladder match was fairly easy to predict. Babyface champion, three babyfaces in the contender's match. Wasn't too hard to guess that the only heel in the ladder match was going to win. FF'ed through the rest of the show except Vega's promo. Wanted to see if the crowd was really as quiet as Meltzer's recapper claimed. Yep. They certainly were. Can't blame them. I probably wouldn't even notice if Zelina disappeared from tv, and the Queen gimmick is only going to work if they keep her away from actual stars in the division (Bianca, Becky). I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how Carmella's paper-thin mask is supposed to protect her face from a bumps. Doesn't look sufficient to prevent anything more than a fingernail scratch.
  22. I would have sworn you posted that story in one of the threads last week. Guess not, though I'm fairly sure I read it somewhere on here a week or two back. Edit: It was in the omnibus thread last week.
  23. L God, think how unbearable threads on this site will be if that becomes a trend. Fortunately, that sort of thing never happens on the internet.
