  1. What? Why are you delegating the perfectly acceptable word Fun to all the worst things in wrestling?
  2. Pretty incredible show. What an array of talent and style! Excellent curation. Priest v Slim J and Connelly v Demus were both unreal. Arez v Makowski, Gringo Lovo v Cerebro and Williams/Icarus v Mathers/Luke featured some truly beautiful pro wrestling. Even with Makabe fixing his gear at inopportune times the Thatcher v Makabe Main Event was strong. Thatcher is a special talent. Certainly some matches that could've been trimmed off, but nonetheless a really fun show throughout.
  3. Yeah, Birth is perfection. One of Kidman's best performances during an (off/on) incredible run with the aforementioned Eyes Wide Shut, (underrated) The Others, The Hours, Dogville and Margot at the Wedding. Glazer's films have been can't miss events since Sexy Beast. Oh, I caught The Devils before it left the channel. It was not what I had expected. Forgetting the title, but the accompanying doc on CC was a nice companion piece. After seeing that and reading about the film it feels like we're being cheated by all the longstanding cuts. Such a shame that the film is still being held hostage after all these years. That said, what Is the film we're able to watch is pretty terrific. Beautiful Gemma Jones radiated from the screen and stole all her scenes. Oliver Reed was excellent in the lead. Redgrave too. Such an inventive and interesting score by Peter Maxwell Davies. This was my first outing with director Ken Russell, and I'm thoroughly impressed. I've been holding onto a copy of Women In Love for many years, and look forward to making that my second voyage. I also rewatched Kubrick's grossly underrated second feature 'The Killer's Kiss'. I love watching the raw Master left to his devices, his words, his camera., a tiny budget. The result is an absolutely beautiful movie. Always overlooked in his sparkling canon. I've been on a Stanley kick. Along with the Killers Kiss I watched an hour long doc called Kubrick by Kubrick featuring an audio interview by the man himself. Well worth a watch (on Kanopy). Off to see a screening of Clockwork Orange tomorrow. Very excited. Been at least 10 years.
  4. Quick question, I'm re-joining IWTV - it won't allow me to use the 'ACTION' code. A message indicates it's for first time subscribers. I'm not so worried about the discount, but does a regular re-up of a subscription help the cause? Or is there some other way to identify I'm subscribing for DEAN!?
  5. Fun show as per usual. Copeland promo off the top felt unnecessary, but totally fine. Ospreay v Hobbs was the battle of Wills I hoped it would be. Danielson v Archer allows for the logical comparisons. Archer and Hobbs to a lesser degree could improve each of their games by working better inbetween with stronger and more creative weardowns. In particular, Archer's choking offense gets tedious, and looks kinda shitty. Both matches had nice closing stretches. Jericho/Hook promo was fine. Jericho seems lost. I ffwd and ffwd and ffwd thru Jay White v Dad Asshole. I'd like to see a documentary based on this match from conception to finish. Horrible. Great babyface Willow promo! Okay, now it feels like Willowmania is starting to really rev up. I mean we could all see she was capable in ring, but on the mic too!?! Not suggesting this was blowaway, but solid stuff. I like the camera angle of having ppl facing away from the crowd, but they need to work on the camera placement ever so slightly. Looking forward to Mercedes heel turn (please!). OC/Trent v Bucks was okay. The OC/Trent team was a bit disappointing. None of their matches were as good as they usually deliver separately. Bucks did what they could, and I'm very happy they're moving on. Totally for Trent getting a bit of a push if that's where this goes. Dude's fucking awesome, and has been forever. I'm glad they're at least trying something with the Frenz. Not at all into this lame idea of keeping them together forever as babyfaces doing the same nothing. The reunion will be well worth all of this. Where does Chuck side!? Mariah May v Rosa was fine for a Thunder match. May did what she could and looked great doing it. Hopefully this Toni bout ends Rosa in Main programs and on TV every week. Penta promo, right on! Cope v Penta works for me. Swerve-Joe signing was nicely plotted out. Builds nicely to the Dynasty. The way Joe and Swerve were moving together suggests this could be a helluva bout! Another excellent Hour fitty of Pro-Wres on a Thursday morning. I've seen the 'hot' product on the other channel and if it was all that was offered I would not be watching weekly Pro Wrestling in 2024. AEmuthafukenDub still ruling the world for quality television, and it's not even close.
  6. I came for the same question above. This is easily the show I’m most excited about this week. I hope Slim J finishes his story! Envious of all you set to attend. Dean rules the motherfucking universe!
  7. They didn't need to make Dean/Bravo look great, but they could've given them a shred of credibility. Especially considering what FTR were set to do with them. From watching ROH fairly regularly, the Infantry have come a long way and have even looked pretty good some weeks. There's a particularly good 2-3 falls bout with Moriarty/Taylor out there. Tho, Moriarty/Taylor are actually the better team. You could say Bucks v FTR sounds like a yawn on paper, but their matches have been pretty spectacular. I also wouldn't count out a OC/Trent v FTR final. Or Top Flight v Bucks.
  8. Fun Collision in the Forest City! Another terrific Cope Open with Copeland v Cardona. I'd only heard of their history, but they did a an admirable job telling the story within this match. Copeland's AEW run seems grossly underrated by some. He's been nothing but great. This was a nice surprise for the red hot London crowd. Very into Black v Copeland - Malakai shouldn't have any trouble putting over a former WWE star ahead of him in the pecking order. Briscoe/Eddie/Cope v HOB sounds like fun. No complaints, I'll take Trios over Multi-Ways any day of the week. FTR promo was good as per usual. FFWD Assclaimed promo. Very thankful for the technology. Somehow these guys I liked just fine are the worst. FTR v Infantry was a total teacher-student-walk-a-long, but not without moments of merit. Funny watching Infantry trying to figure shit out in real time. Probably best to get more ROH reps in. Bill/Starks promo was the per usual meaning Bill looks good and Ricky spouts off 'Absolute' nonsense. Cope/King/Chicken promo was good. Briscoe v Eddie is gonna be so great. Kyle O Reilly v JD Drake was a nice showcase for KOR. The post match Kingdom celebrations are amusing. Bill/Starks v Top Flight was going fine til the finish. Kinda question why Starks didn't just get out of the ring and let Bill fight especially if they were meant to go over. No complaints tho, much rather see the Martins v FTR than this weak Bill/Starks team. Bill needs to bomb the shit out of Ricky and move on to something more substantial. The Big man has wonderful charisma and shows it each time out. 'Cool' Christopher Daniels promo tells of a bout with Malakai on Rampage, okay I'll take a look at that. Daniels isn't even Dad-cool. I wish he'd just embrace his heel roots. Thunder v Frosty was pretty solid. Anybody else been noticing the placement of that skull on Rosa's trunks? Frost looked better than Rosa here - no surprise as she is far better. Pleased to hear the London crowd get behind her. Toni/Mariah promo was sensational. Lightning Daffodil! The big kiss! Wonderful! Nice Will Ospreay video. Shibata/Claudio/Danielson v Archer/Dutch/Vince was lotsa fun. I'm really wanting this Dutch/Archer pairing as a regular duo. And to be pushed. How did they look to everyone else? Loved the you bodyslam me, I'll bodyslam you bit. I still feel like Shibata matches are a gift. So to Claudio and Danielson matches. I'm very grateful. Fun Saturday show, but I have to wonder did the license run out on 'Saturday Night's Alright for a Fight'?
  9. Nice variety. I'm a high voter on the Echo and the Bunnymen catalog from 1980-1984. And I appreciate the variation that the old guard may have struggled with. In 2024, it just feels like slight variation. Also, highly recommend the Peel Sessions 1979-1983 - that's the new most overlooked. Some superior raw takes to less appetizing Crocodile studio versions. Minutemen are also pretty perfect. Tho, I'm realizing now I don't know much about their swansong. I too love the Go-Betweens. They age like a fine wine. Their first two albums Lullaby and Hollywood were always the hardest to come by. It's only recently with streamers that I'd heard either. Still working on both. I was just looking at the sharply packaged Souljazz Records Mark Stewart comp last night, and thinking about putting it on. I'll consider this trigger motivation. Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones might be my favorite of his albums. Sentimentally chosen in part as my introduction to his kooky world. I'm very into that last scenario you wrote of, and indeed see Waits LPs as movies. Cutting away all the distractions of life and immersing in music is still a goal of mine daily. You could easily cherry pick songs for what you're looking for. Maybe you should see how you feel about Closing Time? More direct, less variation, very chill, just a piano and old Tomcat.
  10. House of Black have a lot to offer in-ring, but you also take their bullshit. Most recent example, making respected Captain Shawn Dean and young Carly Bravo look like complete dogshit on their way to facing FTR in a tournament for the tag team championships. I sense Dragunov doesn't offer the same baggage, while being far superior in-ring. I'm gonna stick to my 1 for 2 fantasy trade.
  11. Let's be clear Rush in Canadian radio terms is 2 or 3 songs at best. I hate those 2-3 songs - especially you Tom Sawyer. Lots of Guess Who. Neil's repertoire is like 6 songs maybe? I won't hate on Old Man, Heart of Gold, Southern Man, Rockin in the Free World, Harvest Moon and CInnamon Girl, but the repetition is sickening. BTO, sure. I spent a lot of time in Chicago in the early aughts, so I'm aware things are bad all over, but it's just a little bit worse here.
  12. I think it'd be interesting to see how Starks would do in WWE for the reasons I mentioned, but I don't disagree. I have little doubt that if McMahon were in charge he'd be either in catering or doing jobs in under 2 minutes. Even with the current regime, if his motivation doesn't ascend a couple notches and stay there consistently he'd be midcard fodder. I also think Ethan Page would have a better shot of moving up the card with writers and less freedom. Have you seen his babyface ROH run? Hilariously bad promos galore. Tho, Ethan's clearly only meant to ever be a heel, which he is excellent at. Miro's run with the TNT title suggested (without the creative issues that followed) that you're probably right. Can I wish for a second that these two companies could complete a couple trades - Ricky Starks for Chad Gable, Dragunov for Black and Buddy, Bronson Reed for Miro.
  13. I totally agree with the first statement, but I don't think it's because Ricky's lit the world on fire in AEW. I don't quite see how he's shown himself to be 'the guy' outside of being a solid opponent for a couple top guys. He's been very inconsistent. His Tag Title run with Bill was one of the, if not thee, worst in the 5 year history. I think he needs the sink or swim motivation of WWE along with writers providing him better words. The whole 'Absolute' thing has long felt like a try hard fail. Ricky's promos are not great for what he says, but he does have cadence in spades. Give a guy like that a writer, and I suspect better results. I also think his in ring style would be more at home on the WWE side.
  14. To be clear, very big fan of lots and lots of music of my fellow Canadians, but I was talking about CANCON! Imagine a condensed roster of talent based on your country's worst. That's CANCON! And the kind of repetition that leads to despising even a pretty great rock n roll album like Back in Black. That's CANCON! And here's my list of favorites off the top of my head: Leonard Cohen, Glenn Gould, Oscar Peterson, The Organ, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Alex Zhang Hungtai/Dirty Beaches, Skinny Puppy, Fifth Column, Rick White/Elevator to Hell, Eric's Trip, Julie Doiron, (90s) Sloan, Syrinx, US Girls, Cousins, Jack Scott, Soupcans, The Famines, Kyle Bobby Dunn, You'll Never Get To Heaven, Slow Attack Ensemble/Dreamsploitation, Motherlode, Majestics, Jackie Mittoo, Noel Ellis, Johnny Osbourne, Gino Soccio, (honorary) Rupa, Earth Roots and Water, Wayne McGhie, K. Leimer, DOA, The Haunted, Alexander 'Skip' Spence, JK and Co, Buck 65, (honorary) Jackie Shane, The Band, Sikimuit, Buffy Sainte Marie, Willie Dunn, Willie Thrasher, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Terry Jacks/The Poppy Family, Laurice/Grudge, Ronnie Hawkins, The Ugly Duckings, The Bent Wind, Bruce Haack, Christmas, Mark Templeton, Sarah Davachi, Loscil, Tim Hecker, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, etc. etc. etc.
  15. Anybody not in Canada talking about songs you don't ever want to hear again, come on up and have a listen to our 40% Canadian Content or CANCON as it's known here. You'll be begging for GNR opposite Cody Rhodes' favorite band Our Lady Peace. I guess you guys did get the Barenaked Ladies, yeah?
  16. Very much looking forward to Sonic Life. Just listened to the excellent WTF interview with the always delightful Moore. Kinda glad to hear he doesn't get into the weeds of the Gordon break-up. I love Kim, but detailing the break-up in her book to push copies was completely unnecessary. Kinda shitty to their daughter too. I don't get the celebrity need to announce to strangers why your marriage broke-up. And yeah, I won't be cancelling Thurston for the dissolution of said marriage because I read his partner's side. Intimate details I never needed or wanted to know.
  17. Not a great show, but a little fun was had. The Dustin v Butcher opener was a nice little battle. I really long for the day that Butch takes a NJPW excursion and (maybe) becomes ready for the big poosh. Ass Boys/Jay home invasion was a bit underwhelming. At least give us something to laugh about. Purrazzo v Rose was a fine little showcase. Deonna would benefit from always getting a little mic time around her bouts. Mariah May v Nikita was a fair showcase for the Marvellous Miss May. Toni would've been better utilized on commentary. Zak Knight/Harley Cameron/Ange/Ruby Soho skit - the word cringe is grossly overused these days, but seems pretty appropriate for what Ruby's been bringing to this bullshit. Just book the Knight/Ange mid-show Rampage match already. Roddy v Papi Magie would've benefitted from the classic Mark Henry split screen promo of yesteryear. Hot crowd made for an exciting start. Goddamn Matt Taven seemed to be intent on being the focus on the outside. Way to get yourself over at the expense of the match. I'm not a Taven hater, but shit like this reminds why he's so reviled. This was a big shiny example of AEW's idiotic use of heel cornermen. I wish it provided the good kind of heel heat. It seems wrong at this point to even complain about the obvious reasons why Taven/Bennett should've been kicked out. That said, I can't help but wish Creative would clean up this fucking nonsense. The match itself was a bit rough. Menard's timing and comebacks were pretty awful. Roddy did what he could to make something out of this, but the lack of success was on Menard. I say that as a fan. Clearly he's better off sticking to his strongsuit - on the mic and headset. Post match stuff was fine for the OC/Trent v Bucks build, which I'm very much looking forward to. This show feels incredibly dull without Renee popping up all over it. She should be the MC and star every week. That ends the run of quietly rockin' Rampages. EDIT: Roddy's backdrop to Papi Magie on the apron was awesomely brutal! The highlight of the show.
  18. Thanks, I wouldn’t have thought this lighthearted comment would need clarification, but I guess so.
  19. Excellent Athena Squash to open. Holy shit did she beat the ever living shit out of this Nikita. Boom! Shida v Athena is a nice feud for ROH. Lee Johnson promo was weak, but happy to see him get the reps. I don't dislike Lee, but I wonder if letting Shotty spread his wings elsewhere isn't the best play. Johnson v Fletcher needed to be saved for a PPV? Garrison/Karter squash was fine. I sense they'd be better off dropping falls in competitive matches. Karter did look better here than he has. Griff's another guy who would benefit from taking a tour. Maria! Maria! What a boss! Dalton v Comoroto was pretty solid. As MattD said if could've benefitted from a few more minutes, but like what they did with what they had. The Johnny/Dalton storyline has offered some serious wrestlecrap. Hoping they can have an actual really good match to blow if off. Cabana/Cutler squash was mostly fun. A bit of tigentening to this act could produce an actual good team. Andretti/Martins squash was solid. I'd love to see the 6 man tag straps on these guys to defend on the actual ROH show weekly. That'd be neat. I missed DIamante v Kiera. They're both good hands, but... should I go back? Drake v Uno was fine to good at points. Love to see this without the sports entertaining and with some uhh blood. Kyle Fletcher v Blake Christian was fantastic! Really fun. I wish Fletcher would just end his matches with that great looking brainbuster. Blake Christian has an incredible talent to make crowds care about him even if they know nothing about him at the start. The right tag partner could make him far more important to the overall scheme of things. Who do they think is buying Lee Johnson beating Kyle Fletcher for the title? If the play is to get the titles on regularly appearing talent, by all means, find a way to pull the upset. Oh yeah, very solid Mark Briscoe promo. Loved all the Jay cuts. I like to think coming out of this PPV we'll have a roster of Champions that actually appear on the show. Now dear ROH, PLEASE start letting ppl know when the ROH tapings start rather than announcing 730 start time for Dynamite with a half hour of tapings prior. Some worthwhile stuff here between the Briscoe promo, the Athena Squash and the tremendous Fletcher v Christian tv fight.
  20. The relentless shit-smearing of Amy Winehouse continues in death. No better example than the awful documentary 'Amy'. God forbid any legacy media piece or project actually celebrate her undeniable talents.
  21. I agree on the lack of direction of the Undisputed Kingdom. It's quite remarkable. Easy! Maybe I'm alone, but I give a shit about Kyle O'Reilly. I think he's really talented. I'm into this low key story of Kyle wanting to see if he can still hang after the mounting injuries. It seems clear the direction is a feud with Roddy which I totally look forward to.
  22. I believe there's a clearance issue. And, as Zakk mentioned above, a want for her first match to be on PPV, which is pretty fair. Blatant abuse of power to win matches sounds in-line with House of Torture chicanery, and I'm not sure you want that anymore than I do. The logic here is their EVP tags don't carry as much weight as they'd like. I suspect this will be revealed in time.
  23. Big appetite for wrestling this week led me to a rare viewing of NXT. Kinda blown away by the Dijak v Spears opener. I'd heard good things, and was interested. I've always appreciated Spears as a good hand, but he seemed to transcend that job filing here. The where's my chair bit was silly, but fine. Those overhand chops from Dijak! Spears as good as he was here, should drop the dramatic Chairman entrance. It's corny and doesn't fit him. I skipped to Dragunov v Stacks, and again enjoyed what I saw. Fun seeing Dragunov in a TV match like this. I've only ever seen him in epics. I love his selling and bumping to which this was a great showcase. The Ridge Holland retirement was way better than I'd expected from the little talk I heard. Very natural and Holland completely pulled it off. Ffwd to the Corbin/Bron v Tozawa/Otis Main Event. This Corbin/Bron team is just tremendous. Otis is a fun sports entertainer and good meat man. Fun, fun, fun TV match. Loved the table spot and everything the Wolf Dogs did on offense. Amusing pre-match Corbin/Bron/Good Bros skit. Bron seems better off in a team, but Corbin badly needs a makeover. He always looks so pasty (as discussed) and generic (he routinely sports some of the worst looking ring wear in the game - somebody help him). Perhaps the tattoos look better to others. Lastly, the Prime Target Trick Williams/Carmelo Hayes Videos! This is the future of pro wrestling, and I'm not talking abut the two blue chippers being promoted. All broadcasts should strive for promotional work as good as these. Pleasant surprise from NXT!
  24. My enjoyment of the first 3 weeks of Mercedes Mone is on par with most around here, but ex-Superstars often need time to adjust. Miro was shit upon until he found his God. Some might say it took Toni Storm over a year to figure things out. Go back and look at what ppl had to say about Brodie Lee for the first patch. Mone's week 2 with the video throw was the worst. Week 1 was completely fine. Week 3 commentary wasn't great, but also not worthy of the degree of shit. When she's finally cleared(?) and able to lace up the boots for a bout I'm pretty confident this shitflinging will subside.
  25. Well said. I thoroughly loved this show. Shibata v Ospreay was a lot of fun from start to finish. I hope I never get wrapped up in some idea of what Pro Wrestling should be that I can't enjoy a match this entertaining. Nice Danielson Video package. Would've liked a narrator separate from the regular voice, but a very minor complaint. Bucks promo offered their regular hilarity. Renee worked hard not to break. I dig Okada/Ferrari arrivals. Privates v Bucks was fantastic at least 3/4 way thru. The finish was a bit unfortunate. Less the trigger misfire than both Jacksons pinning Quen, and that being acceptable. Almost made me long for a JR bellyache. Previous to that tho, this was another example of the Jacksons' pulling the best matches out of whomever their opponents are. I don't recall Private Party being anywhere close to this level against anybody but the Bucks. Nice little Darby/Tony Hawk charity plug. Jericho/Hook promo was good. Especially good for a babyface Jericho promo. Willow v Skye v Anna v Stat was terrific. Both Stat and Willow especially looked great. Mercedes arrival seemed a bit light on the fan fare. I didn't expect much from her commentary - she seems to require a script. I'm not gonna further bury her tho, I suspect her in ring will do the best talking possible, and it's not far off. Dustin/Butcher promo was pretty fun. Butch sounded great. Kinda dumb 'Cause I'm a legend' finish by Dustin, but yeah, let's go! OC/Trent v Kingdom was a nice solid TV bout. I really dug OC punching Taven in the face to begin. Bucks v Trent/OC is gonna be a barnburner. Plucky happy to be there Kyle O'Reilly promo was just fine, but could they not have given his opponent? You can't 'In action' somebody talking so much about the great roster. Copeland Video package was really good. Looking forward to the next round of Cope Opens. Following up on the previous week with highlights as seen throughout the show is a quiet but big improvement. Takeshita v Swerve was as tremendous as expected. Very nice build to the hot closing stretch. Don Callis commentary is always a little gift. This show feels like a clear example that you're never going to please everyone. #234 was better than most TV Wrestling I've ever seen. High voter. AEDub, thanks for the thrills!
