They were. I've actually gone very easy on refs in all sports in general since seeing that. It was astonishing the difference, not just the calls (which we all knew would be terrible) but how difficult it was to handle keeping the game moving at a correct pace. There were some nearly 2 hour first halves during that ref strike, it was atrocious to try and watch. That and near the end, how openly abusive players were getting towards the replacement refs, some of it bordering on physical intimidation which you'd never think to try on a regular ref. It was a gong show.

Also this "complaining about a ref swearing at someone" thing is absolutely amazing given how much bullshit referees have to put up with.

It's very close to being a clothesline and anyone acting mystified that in live time refs gave a penalty for that is completely out to lunch. That won't even crack a top 50 of questionable NFL calls this year.

The Riders/Stampeders west final drew 1.9 million viewers in Canada, which for a non-Grey Cup, non-hockey broadcast, is an astonishing number for Canadian TV. This Grey Cup with Saskatchewan at home will probably be a record of some kind. The east final did 1.7 million, which might even be more shocking.
