  1. I have just noticed that in the 6/12/1995 issue in which Dave reviews the full 60:00 Misawa/Kobashi vs Taue/Kawada 1/24/1995 match he says it is on a different level from every other ***** match that year except perhaps Kawada vs Kobashi from a week earlier. He said that match (Kawada vs Kobashi) was amazing as a singles match that had that much intensity for that long. So that would be confirmation of it as a five-star match rating for 1/19/1995.
  2. 8/24/94 Toyota vs. Inoue (All Pacific & IWA Title Unification) Dave wrote in the 9/5/1994 WON that this was reported to be a match of the year type match and that it was ***** but that appears to be based on someone else's report 10/9/1994 Toyota/Yamada vs. Double Inoue (Wrestlmarinpiad VI: 2/3 Falls, WWWA World Tag Titles) In the 12/19/1994 WON Dave said the match went 40:00, was ***** and one of the best women's matches of the year. AJPW 4/15/95 - Misawa vs. Taue (Champion Carnival Final) Dave reported on this in the 5/22/1995 WON and rated it ***** It was aired over two shows and Dave described it as Taue's best singles match ever. I've also found record in the 10/31/1994 WON of 19/28/1994 Konnan, Art Barr and Chicano Power vs El Hijo del Santo, Blue Panther and Perro Aguayo in AAA being rated ****3/4 and being described by Dave as one of the best tv matches of the year. In the 11/28/1994 WON review of Big Egg Wrestling Universe Dave rated 11/20/1994 Combat Toyoda vs Yumiko Hotta as ****3/4

  4. Also, these: 12/10/1993 Kyoko Inoue and Toshiyo Yamada defeated Akira Hokuto and Manami Toyota 1 12/10/1993 Kyoko Inoue and Toshiyo Yamada defeated Akira Hokuto and Manami Toyota 2 These were two matches between the two teams on the same show as part of a tournament and Dave gave both matches ***** These matches are available together online
  5. Here are some I've found post-1994: 4/1/1995 Octagon, El Hijo Del Santo and Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Fuerza Guerrera, Psicosis and Blue Panther Dave said it came awfully close if not hitting five stars, I am not sure if he means that as giving it five stars 6/27/1995 Aja Kong vs Manami Toyota This rating was based on an edited version of the match. He said it was a lot better than the match where Toyota won the title in Yokohama and was easily a MOTYC but that their 1994 Tokyo Dome match was better. 7/23/1995 Manami Toyota vs Mima Shimoda This was from the Grand Prix and Dave said he was convinced Toyota was the best in the business. 3/9/1996 Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Juventud Guerrera ECW Dave said this might have been the best US match of 1996 10/10/1996 Dick Togo, Mens Teoh, Shiryu, Taka Michinoku and Shoichi Funaki vs Gran Naniwa, Gran Hamada, Super Delfin, Tiger Mask and Masato Yakushiji Dave referred to this as non-stop and nearly flawless. 6/29/1998 Kiyoshi Tamura vs Tsuyoshi Kohsaka RINGS Dave said this was the best match of 1998 and that it was the best match he'd ever seen in the worked shoot style.
  6. Great match with Atlantis as a strong young babyface and Satanico as uber-heel. Soup, that was a tremendous write-up that I couldn't top. So ya, what soup said. I've got this # 2 for the set right now.
  7. Disc 1 Rankings: MS-1 vs. Sangre Chicana (9/23/83) Sangre Chicana vs. Ringo Mendoza (10/28/83) Atlantis y El Hijo del Santo vs. Fuerza Guerrera y Lobo Rubio (11/25/83) El Canek vs. Don Corleone (2/14/82) Centurion Negro vs. Gran Hamada (2/14/82) Satoru Sayama y Gran Hamada vs. Perro Aguayo y Baby Face (4/13/80) Espectro Jr., Satanico y MS-1 vs. Mocho Cota, Sangre Chicana y La Fiera (9/30/83) Kevin von Erich, Mascara Ano 2000 y Halcon Ortiz v. Coloso Colosetti, Pirata Morgan y Herodes (9/23/83) Tatsumi Fujinami vs. El Canek (6/12/83) Andre the Giant & Cien Caras vs. Alfonso Dantes, Herodes y Sangre Chicana (1981) Really good set so far.
  8. Really enjoyed this and didn't realize when watching it that was Santo's debut at Arena Mexico, which makes it even cooler. Santo was so smooth and fluid with his flying it is pretty unbelievable. Atlantis looked good here too and I was really surprised at Guerrera as well. I have this third behind the previous two matches with Chicana.
  9. Fantastic match, with the best comeback by Chicana of all time. He got his ass kicked from the opening clips of the match and into the second fall and then BOOM! He punches out MS-1, then keeps on with the punches and hits a tope to win the second fall. This is my first time watching this match and I watched it twice. It is an all-time great match. It reminded me of this year's L.A. Park vs Dr. Wagner Jr match that I loved and do not think is as good as this but I wonder if there was at all an attempt at homage on their part. Both Chicana and MS-1 were great to me and as much as I love watching masked luchadores, this set so far shows that the unmasked luchadores have just as much legacy as well.
  10. Tatsumi Fujinami vs. El Canek (6/12/83) I have this match fourth on the set so far, and it was a tough call against the three above it but I liked all of those matches quite a bit. The third fall was better here but other than the finishes and the awesome spot where they rolled to the floor in the figure four, this was not as strong as the other three matches. Far above the Andre match of course.
  11. In honor of the fiftieth episode of The Wrestling Culture podcast, Dylan and I run down our Top Fifty list of the best in-ring wrestlers of all time. We ended up recording it in two parts and had a great time with the conversation. Thanks to everyone who has listened to any or all of our first fifty episodes and here's to another fifty. http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=112658&cmd=tc
  12. I've listed this in my # 1 position so far and that might not sound like much four matches in but I really liked it. Corleone was a revelation for me and I wish there was more of him on the set. It's probably the best Canek match I've seen as well. I loved the mat work and Corleone brought I pace to all three falls that I'm not sure Canek can do on his own. He seemed to have some British influence and I want to track down more of his stuff.
  13. I loved this match, the matwork was classic and I was impressed with Centurion while already knowing Hamada was great. The ending to all three falls were really solid and it was fun to see Thesz as referee. It's the best match so far and I hope a good indication of things to come.
