  1.

It is kind of amazing JTG has avoided getting released for so long, while not really appearing on any shows, even NXT.

He's one of the lucky ones a long with Curt Hawkins and Ted Jr.

Those guys strike me as 3 that Vince has forgot he even has signed.

  2. I'm enjoying Kongo because he seems to be the complete antithesis of what the ROH fans would want to see in an ROH wrestler.

I'm wondering how much turnover the ROH fan base has had since the companies heyday. This seems like the worst roster ROH has ever had and I'm curious if the ROHbots now are predominantly the same as they were when they had Joe, Danielson, Aries, etc or they've left to follow something else. I can't see the ROH fans from the companies prime years giving a shit about a lot of these guys.

You gotta think those guys have jumped over to EVOLVE and even WWE, as much as they wouldn't want to admit it. Does the super smart, technical loving fan even exist anymore?

  3. Got a question:

Typical etiquette states that you don't wear a band's shirt to their concerts. But what about wearing one to their tribute band's show, hm?

Is it a lesser known shirt? You want to convey your love of the band but you gotta think that people will turn their nose up at anything too obvious.

I think you'll look beautiful, no matter what you're wearing.

Out of curiosity, does them reusing show names bug the hell out of anyone else? I remember the first time I heard Nigel vs. Danielson was going to be "Epic Encounter 2" I wanted to rip someones head off. It sounded stupid, and I didn't like the match nearly as much as I liked London/Danielson (If I recall, that was the match were Nigel did the "headbutting the ring post till he bled" spot. Made me uncomfortable then, since if I remember correctly, Benoit wasn't much before that, and low and behold, he has head issues now that forced an early retirement)

Like, how many of the "Manhattan Mayhem" shows are even in the ballpark of the first one?

Your timeline is a little off here. The Nigel/Danielson match you're describing was from Unified which was part of ROH's United Kingdom debut and Nigel was the hometown hero. It was a pretty big match as it was the unification match for the World and Pure Titles. Also, the match occurred a year before the Benoit stuff.

I remember on an ROH show in 04, maybe Nigel's first, he does the headbutting the ring post spot and it's really hard to watch. How long was that guy doing that spot on smaller indies and how often? Craziness.

Oh wow. I don't recall that and I was pretty into ROH by '04. I only remember the aforementioned Unified spot. It's ridiculous, especially with how much more attention is paid to head trauma nowadays.

Looking at OWW, I believe it's "The Battle Lines Are Drawn"

They had this weird attempt at elevating Val Venis in I wanna say...2000, where he turned heel on Mick Foley for no reason(And kept giving him the testicular claw) and wrestled Stone Cold in the main event of a Smackdown. It was all done really poorly and came so out of nowhere, that no one bought into it at all.

Wasn't the Val mini-push around the same time as Al Snow's mini-push heel turn based on all the jokes in Foley's book?  I feel like there were some Val/Snow - Rock/Sock matches back then, and the crowd just wasn't buying it.

There seemed to be a lot of guys the crowd just didn't buy getting briefly pushed into a high spot back then, continuing on into the early days of the brand split.  Val, Snow, Billy Gunn, Bubba Ray.  I think that is what made the initial Benoit/Jericho push so energizing.  It seemed like one of the rare times back then where who the WWE was trying to move up the card completely coincided with who the crowd wanted to see move up.

There was a renewed Val push in mid-2000 when he and Rikishi had the cage match at Summerslam and he ditched the pornstar gimmick. Was right before the RTC gimmick and I don't remember fans taking to it then, even with Trish at his side.

  7. I wish they booked Main Event week to week with its own little tiny TV programs. For instance Khali - Hornswoggle - Natalya vs. Cesaro - Swagger - Zeb in WWE's version of a WAR six man would be awesome for next week.

There should be a ton of older Main Event/Superstars only guys who they bring in to flesh out the roster a bit. Ace Steel should be running around with a cowbell as Khali covers his ears for the noise. Chris Hamrick should be doing the Hamrick bump off a Heath Slater air guitar solo. They should reunite Too Cool and run a long feud with 3MB which ends with a Moog Synthesizer on a Pole match. They're not trying hard enough.

  8. It's been a long time since I watched HEROES (my viewing slipped after Season 2) and man, what a cool fucking premise Season 1 is and it's still pretty great viewing. I remember Season 2 slowing down considerably but  just how off the rails does it get?

  9. Finally got around to listening to Primal Scream's More Light and man, it warms my heart that as a lot of British bands are stinking up the country, these drug-addled old bastards are still making incredible, ambitious music. These young punks need to get in line.

  10. William Regal as insane KOTR and general manager of Raw was awesome for the 3 weeks it lasted. The pop when Kennedy beats him and he has to leave is huge which is directly because Regal was such a gigantic dickhead leading up to it. Him cutting off Cena/HHH right in the opening stretch is the high concept craziness that I support in the pro wrestling.

I am curious to know how you all picked your squads?  This will be my second season of watching Premier football and I've narrowed it down to four teams.   1.  Man U - I like watching RVP.  It's not true but it always feels like he has to bail them out to win a game or get momentum.

UNITED! Or Man Utd, or Man United. Never Man U. I have to constantly remimd my wife of that.

It's never United considering there's teams in the football pyramid that actually have been United from two clubs. It's my biggest footballing thing that shouldn't bother me but does, especially supporting a United.

I don't know much about ...football (sigh), but I'm going to attempt to jump on the bandwagon with everyone else this year. The little NBC EPL site told me I'm supposed to support Chelsea, but I don't know much about anything. So at the very least, this will be an interesting little experiment...

Follow Newcastle. You'll spend a month enjoying it when we start OK then get slowly more and more depressed as the club begins to implode from within again. I say, just watch a few games and highlight shows and stick with whoever takes your fancy. You have a luxury since you weren't raised to follow a side like this idiot.

I enjoyed England/Scotland though I question the wisdom of a side that continually gets it wide when nobody on the pitch can cross a football.
