On a night where Shida, Hangman, FTR, Lee, Archer and other big names weren't on the show, I thought the Conti/Velvet choice was a bit odd. I mean Shida couldn't at least get an entrance and do guest commentary or something?
I'm cool with cycling through names such that not everyone is on every week, but its such a different approach than other modern promotions that I kind of have to reprogram myself.
Re: the main event, feels right that the Bros would eventually split with Fenix face and Penta heel. I just wasn't ready for it so soon. Every single match combination I can think of between Kingston, Pac, Fenix and Penta would rule hard, though. Like no way this won't be good, even if it feels rushed.

Up and down show a bit.
I will never not love a come dressed as you are bunkhouse match with gallons of blood and this was no exception. Great fun with three problems: the wrong team won, they missed the table spot with Bunny, and...yeah, that Buzz Killington lung cancer commercial during the break didn't do the presentation any favors.
Same with Spears/Sky. Why is Spears going over anyone in 2020?
Also, Hobbs/Allin vs. Team Taz > Cody/Allin vs. Team Taz. Hobbs screams babyface to me but he's come out juuuuust a hair too late too many times now for me to not think he's turning.
They really rushed through the story in the main event, almost like they were able to get Pac back a month earlier than expected so we went from Friendly Brotherly Exhibition to ripping masks out of no where. Great match though and that apron package piledriver was insane.
So, listening to Mox and Omega's promos. I mean I totally get that Omega is God tier in a lot of ways, but he just isn't on Mox's level in being over. To be fair, no one else in the company is either, but I watch those two promos and I'm just like "how can that dude possibly beat that other dude in less than a month".

If they’re turning the Inner Circle babyface, that makes a ton of sense for Jericho and Sammy. And Santana and Ortiz easily work either way. I just hope they’d find a way to swap Wardlow and Hager, as Hager doesn’t work as a face while that is Wardlow’s next logical step to stardom. Not immediately, but as this plays out.

Thinking back, all my favorite wrestling games (the N64 AKI games, Wrestlefest) had “bulkier” player models, so I’m totally cool with this. I can’t put my finger on it by there’s something less “weight”y and fulfilling control-wise in games with realistically-portioned models

Well I’m stoked. Feels like you could just put a “from the Director of WWF No Mercy” sticker on the cover, stick to the VPW formula, make sure you have an extensible (easily copyright—bypassable) CAW mode and go make a jillion dollars. That’s all people want, I think. You can invest in a deeper GM / booker mode in the next installment to bring them back.

Really curious what they do with Hangman and Cody. Every other major singles player came out of this show with a clear next step (unless you include Brodie), and we are clearly headed to Hangman/Omega 2 around this time next year, but it’s not clear what’s in store next for either of these guys.
I guess you could tie it all together and have Page blame FTR for his life going to shit, recruit Cody to help and then put an exclamation point on Cody’s heel turn by doing it against the most sympathetic guy on the roster. Then Page spending 1H 2021 rebuilding himself Rocky 3 style. But lots of options here

FTR vs the North when?
After the Dark Order / Undead Realm crossover event.
It’s well documented that the Undead Realm is effectively the underworld from Little Monsters, which links all pro wrestling promotions through their use of evil monster heels, and has various portals to the outside world. Brodie put a hit on Bravo because John was close to discovering this, and if he married Rosemary he’d surely find out.

FTR never got the All Elite graphic, did they? Dax might be working everyone, but that feels like a "goodbye for now" tweet.
They’ve said in the past they want to basically tour around and wrestle the best tags team globally. I can see something like that in their AEW contracts.
I’d be totally down if they showed up on Impact challenging The North.

What I love is that this felt both like a blowoff show, yet the start of a new season at the same time. The transition was extremely well executed. Onward!

Woo boy that was a lot to digest. Further thoughts tomorrow but I absolutely adored the ode to tag team wrestling after being so tepid about that match coming in.
The booking was absolutely aces all the way around. Can't wait for Darby/Starks!

I do love me some Jay White and am excited about where that half of this goes

Full Gear Hype-o-Meter:
TIER 1
Mox/Kingston
Hangman/Omega
TIER 2Cody/Darby
Jericho/MJF
Silver/OC
TIER 3
Tag titles
Hardy/Sammy
Shida/Rose
I am stoked overall, especially for those top two, but man do I not give shits about that tag match. FTR are dangerously close to Lance Storm “technically good but I just don’t care” territory for me right now.

They teased Archer/Kingston on Dark this week. Which makes sense storyline wise but not sure I’d dig that as much as your Pac idea. Love all that. I’m down with this Archer thing giving us an Archer/Butcher Dynamite match, though.

Random observation: WWE seemingly uses the shoulder into the post spot in every other match. I can’t recall AEW doing it even once. Am I missing someone who commonly does that?

Drop kicking, kip-upping Big Show was better in 1996/1997 wrestling Meng on WCWSN than he ever was afterward, though I’ll hear an argument for the 2007 run after the Mayweather match where he had some very good matches and character work, against Taker in particular. But nah, give me The Giant.

New Day have that Shaq/Ernie/Kenny vibe. I could listen to those guys read a phone book.

I'm listening now. God, this is great. Truth is a national treasure.

Saw several OC’s yesterday. Got the thumbs up from a few when I gave them a shoutout.

Nice call on Aries.
I have to add 10.0 perfect execution guys Lance Storm and Chris Daniels. I don’t know what the opposite of an emotional connection with the audience is, but they had it. Instant channel changers.

Usos > Headshrinkers > Wild Samoans (though current, thinned up Usos obviously have a very different presentation)
Austin > Bad News Brown
Goldust > Adrian Street
Not much tape on Haystacks Calhoun but I suspect Giant Haystacks might’ve been better?

Also, IMO if you combine the “get off my TV” and “this guy is a scumbag” factors, of current wrestlers absolutely nobody is with 100 yards of Velveteen Dream for me. Seriously, please go away.

Shaq is not just any retired player. He’s one of the faces of the league and a key part of its programming. He’s all over TV. That’d be like calling Michael Strahan a retired football player.
It can be true that 1) Shaq is a big deal that can legitimately help them and 2) this was a very strange way to start building to that, and not in the top 1,000 ways I’d think of to start a Shaq / Cody feud. And it wasn’t executed well.
