100% on board with “Dominic Mysterio is a better heel than MJF” being a Contentious DVDVR Talking Point (tm). Because it’s true. It isn’t all bad for Max though. Much better in the ring and almost certainly a better babyface (though we haven’t seen it for an extended period yet).

Dawkins will have a job for life man. See exhibit A of him performing the greatest dive catch I’ve ever seen and saving Ricochet’s life. See exhibit B of truck sticking Braun Stroman, reminding everyone that there’s popcorn muscles and then there’s division one athlete muscles. Dude was the MVP of that match with Chad Gable right there too. Another guy with a job for life.

Another fantastic WM Night 1. Rey/Dom was pro wrestling as SHIT. From the recap video to the entrances to the family drama to the action in the ring to stable wars to celebrity bullshit and a happy ending, this one was full of ALL the good shit that works in 1983, 2003 or 2023. I know most will say 2-3 other matches from this same show were better, but this is my MOTY right now. So, so good.

Fantastic show. Everything clicked for me. Indi winning is the highlight.

This looks excellent. WM Night 1 last year was my show of the year, and they’ve really perfected this whole summer blockbuster movie version of pro wrestling vibe. Say what you want about WWE TV for the last couple of years, but their big PPV shows have delivered.

Claudio vs Hangman sounds pretty rad. Claudio/Omega and dickbag heel Yuta vs Magnum TA Babyface Hangman too.

Pop of the night from me is when they referred to Alex Marvez as Al Scoops. I didn’t expect an Al Isaacs deep cut on national TV in 2023, but I’m all in, especially if Yokozuna joins the Hart Foundation.

Yeah I was all in on Dax’s pod, but now I’m out. It’s just too much. I could listen to him break down wrestling forever but you have to wade through so much bullshit to get there. Dude should go the Cornette route and have a tequila and old school match breakdown show, and a current / personal stuff show. And cool for those that like the second one but it’s going straight in the trash can over here.

I probably underrate Kenny as an all timer if I’m honest with myself. Dude can go have this match, go have a Frank Gotch match with Danielson, can go bleed with Mox, can go do a five star tag. His greatness doesn’t give a shit what kind of match it is.

You can easily see the next year for Roman playing out, as he loses at WM, we get the big Jey blowoff at MITB or Summerslam, Jey wins, Heyman turns on him somewhere along the way for the next big thing (Solo?) and he hits rock bottom in the fall. Then takes a hiatus, comes back for the Rumble and we get the Rock match at Mania. Neither Jay/Roman nor Rock/Roman need the title Or, he wins at WM this year and we kick the above can down the road for another year.

Butcher and Blade won a Dynamite main event one time (2021?) and it was awesome!

My vote for “best non-formula match from a formula wrestler” might go to Goldberg/Steiner from Fall Brawl 2000. Holy shit this match rules at a time when neither guy did much out there, and is really the prototype for the last decade of Brock Lesnar main events. I’ll also throw the Austin/HHH vs Jericho/Benoit tag a bone. That was four formula guys to a degree and they just go tear the house down in something totally unique.
