  1. So....I got a pretty sweet hookup for Dynamite tomorrow. So me, @HarryArchieGus and my buddies will be sitting ringside. Like, Row A on the camera side. So pumped.

  3. Just to explain the FTC a little better for Natural: It was invented to keep corporate monopolies from forming inside the United States. We had a long history of robber barons who oppressed employees and strangled marketplaces. Thankfully we had changes from Roosevelt's New Deal and the formation of unions, who are responsible for the eight hour workday and work breaks and kids not working in fucking mines, etc. The FTC was a part of that until the 1980s when Reagan's pro-business corporate deregulation efforts slowly eroded all protections for just about every citizen right we had won through our literal blood being spilt by union conflicts. Things like the Citizens United law that actually calls corporations individual persons picked up the erosion big-time. And now you have the ultimate result of that: A country completely controlled by grift from individuals and corporations with all laws impeding them destroyed, and ruled by a foulest of dictators. End rant.

  4. That’s me and I went to Spencer’s to get that shirt just for the event. Got lucky and got to move to the front row for the majority of the Dean3~! portion as I caught a dude leaving and was like I’m stealing your seat.

  7. I am obviously not a billionaire. But it seems like the kind of plan that would be worth losing money over. Even if they didn't do great ppv numbers, I think just doing the fans and indy wrestlers a solid and running a large scale, week long extravaganza in North America would earn AEW so much good will long term. I'd certainly try to take my whole family to such an event. The downside is that I don't know how many folks that usually turn out for Mania would go to AEW, even if the card was STAAAACKED, nor do I know if most of those folks would even be aware of AEW or if they were running a show.

  9. So, I remember during the era when Punk got to pick his guys for Collision, there were lots of aggregators suggesting that a lot of the ex-wwe guys thought they were above jobbing for guys who hadn't been in WWE. I think it was SRS that reported that by that point CM Punk was pretty open about AEW not being as prestigious as WWE. If that's the case, and I'm not saying it is, but if it is, I wonder if not having a squad of HHH merchants poisoning the AEW locker room would lead to a guy like Andrade having a better attitude. He kind of reminds me of the stories 90's NBA players & coaches tell about JR Rider. Great guy, funny, personable, just difficult to deal with on a professional level. I agree AEW doesn't need him, but he's really fucking good and there's some talent in AEW I'd love to see him mix it up with.

  10. "When I became a man, I put away my childish things..." I cannot find it but DEAN writing about makeup, aesthetics and depictions of morality regarding Dump Matsumoto/Bull Nakano vs Crush Gals feels very relevant to the conversation.

  12. It's hard to come to grips that the Sherri in 1992 was the same woman looking like the teacher from The Magic School Bus wrestling in AJW in 1982. It's the female equivalent of John Holmes looking Scott Hall from AWA versus the one from 1995. You wouldn't have a hard time convincing me those are totally different people.

  13. here's my off-the-dome thinking: I'm going to assume Mania is another two day Saturday-Sunday event. If I'm running AEW, i put a ROH PPV on that Friday night. Turn Saturday Collision into a spectacle showcase (hype it up for a few weeks ahead of time, special name, three hour event, all that jazz). The following week, AEW puts on their own PPV, but they go out of their way to partner with some of the indies so they can basically co-opt the 'Mania fervor. an AEW PPV going head-to-head with 'Mania is a terrible idea, but this is certainly an opportunity that they might be able to funnel a lot of that excitement into their own rotation.

  16. I watched RAW from the beginning at 8pm tonight and half the commercials were cut so I was happy about that and I was able to ff'wd through the rest. Cena's opening promo was good. It's good to see Super Cena back at full capacity. I look forward to him vs. Brock provided I can get my vpn thing to work right. Lyra vs. Roxxane was a good match. Lyra sold the bad back from last week very well and I was surprised she won breaking up the streak of people not getting a proper entrance from last week who won. Post match the stuff with Bayley was hilarious. The build with Stephanie vs. Iyo was funny with Asuka and Kairi. I cracked up when Asuka stepped up to Stephanie only to say she would be facing Kairi and she went from scared to psyched. I love what they are doing with Asuka and Kairi. Penta vs. Kofi was good. Loved the springboard destroyer to win. Kairi vs. Stephanie was very good. I would love to see a proper feud between them someday. Backstage I liked Lyra going to Bayley's locker room and she was having a full fledged argument with herself only for Lyra to go in and Bayley was by herself and she acted like she didn't know what Lyra was talking about. Main event was pretty good. Didn't expect Jimmy and LA Knight to win and they didn't. Post match usual stuff with The Bron's beating up everyone before Jey comes out for the save only for LA Knight to sucker him in and bam. Jey vs. LA Knight should be a good feud till they figure out what to do with both of them.

  20. Patrick Bateman is a caricature of guys who act like MJF, so this is like a snake that's eating it's own tail. The thing I wonder about Max is what'd happen if he ever left AEW. Like he needs the freedom to be able to say the stuff he says there. Honestly, I just can't see him doing something like Mariah May and being a wholly different character in another fed. And obviously, he doesn't need to for the foreseeable future, but I'd just like to see something more than the scarf wearing dork who kisses his own ring (literal and metaphorical).

  22. 1985/86 AWA was some of the earliest "not WWF" wrestling memories for me and my mind was blown when a non-Apter magazine in the early 90s casually dropped that Razor Ramon was Scott Hall. 13 year old me simply thought that Scott Hall stopped wrestling after the 1989 WCW run and I first thought the magazine made a mistake until I somehow saw it somewhere else a little bit later before he left for WCW.

  25. I would soooo be there for a huge United Center show. The Bulls' season ends April 12 unless they make the playoffs (LOOOOOOOOOOOL yeah right) and the Blackhawks' season ends April 15 unless they make the playoffs (more LOOOOOOOOOOOL yeah right than the Bulls). Doing something on the 18th or 19th would work. The only wild card is UFC if they try to run the United Center that night as a combined TKO front against AEW. I wouldn't put it past them to do that. The thing is, like Bryan and Dave mentioned, WM will be on in the early afternoon here. It won't be directly head to head, but what it will do is probably a guaranteed sellout because EVERYONE here in the states or in the UK is going to miss out on a WM over here. You'll get all of the indie scene traffic even though the indie scene is sorta depleted, but I think the important part is filling a gap left by WM not being here. Maybe push Revolution by a couple months from February to April. I think the plan is sound. It's going to do the usual 110k+ buys, but the gate would be maybe the second or third biggest in AEW history. I say do it. It's not exactly competing head to head, but what it is doing is showing that AEW cares more about wrestling fans here and abroad than WWE does and ticket prices will be easier to digest than WWE prices.

  27. As irritated as he makes me, he's had moments. Schneider wrote something about the insecurity of his character that was a little eyebrow-raising, especially since I thought he would hate that gimmick. (It's in the new book btw) Really I would have liked to watch his work with Mistico in Mexico recently because he's been dressing in tactical gear and jumping him and shit. It was on MLW.

  28. If TK was still unhinged he’d tweet that Shawn and Hunter are still bald assholes and AEW and ROH are gonna run Supercard of Honor and Revolution from the United Center and (insert appropriate ROH sized venue in Chicago here) the same day as SaudiMania. But nooooo, he needs to be “professional” or something. Never forget what they took from us, boys.

  30. So you make it through a usually very tough new area to get to a boss. Sometimes you have warning you're about to reach one, sometimes you don't. The boss thrashes you because bosses are very hard in this game and at the least you have to learn the patterns through trial and error and that involves dying a few times until you know what to expect. Sometimes it involves dying a LOT of times. You end up back at your last save bench. Great. You're used to that. Problem is, the bench is generally a number of screens away, through some of that very difficult area. In general, you get fairly good at rushing through it. Sometimes, it gives you a chance to fight a few enemies, and build up silk. But it still takes 3-5 minutes at least before you can face the boss again. Sometimes, just due to fatigue and human error, you then hit the boss with less than full health. And sometimes, even worse, you actually die on the way back between enemies and bouncing off spikes in the air. And when that happens, you lose all of your money since you didn't make it back to the place you previously died. It also means that you can't capitalize on that last attempt at the boss and the reflexes you've been building up immediately. You have to instead do a bunch of other things before you get there. Things that you've already done. Multiple times. I will say that it means when you actually beat a boss, there probably is a greater sense of accomplishment, but I'm too old for this shit.

  32. But all of this is the whole point of the character. MJF is supposed to be an empty vessel, there's noone real there. He has no real personality except for this mask he puts on. "Wrestling heel" is all he has. Look at his face run. It was the same thing, only he was the stereotypical baby-face, with corny moves and pandering promos. MJF is the most interesting character in AEW. He's absolutely terrifying.

  33. I'm just reminded of that line from the first Jurassic Park movie where the lawyer says "And we can charge anything we want, 2,000 a day, 10,000 a day, and people will pay it. And then there's the merchandise."

  34. All this talk of people not wanting to do jobs reminds me how much I appreciate Swerve and how he's smart enough to know losing doesn't hurt his character That said, if he never gets his win back against Lashley I will RIOT! Listening to the latest Meltzer/Alvarez and they're debating about if AEW should counter-program SaudiMania with a big show. I was already ahead of them on thinking that, seems like a slam dunk. WWE will be completely forfeiting the Indy weekend that surrounds Mania, Tony has good relations with a bunch of promotions......they've handed him this on a silver platter. Plus with the time difference? Shiiiiiiit.....WWE is completely shooting themselves in the foot on this

  36. Up North Black person here so I'm very familiar with "Casket Sharp" I do always wonder if they make the heel women look a little more overdone to play into the idea that you're not supposed to find them attractive but revolting in a sense. Stratton as a heel in NXT always gave me that vibe versus her stuff outside of the ring.

  38. This probably isn't fair but when I saw the Billington brothers wrestle in MLW my main takeaway was "I'm surprised that one looks pretty solid as his brother is just awful". MLW has a habit of doing that to people and he was very young, but my gut feeling is that he's not with his brother in AEW simply because he's just not very good.

  39. Little from column A and a little from column B. Plus, they expect the women to look like video vixens as they are wrestling minutes on end as if women in sports do that on the constant or that's the norm. I would say a lot of this also falls on today's current standards outside of wrestling and inside of wrestling. The super vamp look is in. So it would be impossible for someone to do the Robin Green/Woman angle cause that person would look like at least 7 out of 10 women today. She wouldn't be unique at all. Thing is though, between having to wrestle as you look like that and also trying to portray a character, you're straddling that fine line of looking like someone who has star aura and also looking like you're about to go on set for a gonzo shoot. And to be fair, especially in news and sports, some of the male counterparts go a little overboard as well. Back when Gus Johnson use to moonlight as an MMA commentator, he use to go on TV as what we call in the African-American community "open casket ready". Keep in mind, that was at the very beginning of the HD era too. Instead of looking like a normal human being, he looked like a black Howdy Doody. It was wild.

  40. I know TV makeup is a different animal that what you'd put on for daily use since it has to hold up to the lights. I wonder if it's worse for wrestling since they're sweating too? On the local end, the sideline reporter for the Brewers broadcasts Sophia Minnert had a period of like 3 years where I thought she always looked insane on camera but I ended up seeing her in person one day at a BBQ though some mutual friends and I was taken back. They must have figured out something with it now because she looks "normal" Boy do I feel slightly icky talking about this even though I'm not coming from a calmdownRamonetico place.

  43. So I find out Robert Redford died and like that my Playlist brings up "The Way We Were" and of course I start crying. I'm not talking little tears. No, I'm full on ugly bawling. I think I'll rewatch 3 Days of The Condor, one of those good underrated Redford movies. Sure I could watch The Sting but knowing the majority of the cast has passed would just lead to me ugly crying all over again. You know a few months back, when I stated that my religion is going to the movies because it is going to a place where you can have a shared experience with other people that can run the gamut of emotions? Robert Redford was an actor that brought forth those emotions. He was handsome, macho, vulnerable and earnest as fuck. When he played a white hat, you believed in that white hat. He gave the audience someone to believe in and when he spoke, you believed every damn word he put out there. Even with fewer screen appearances over the last 3 decades, the PRESENCE of Robert Redford was still something. I'm going to miss Robert Redford. Miss him terribly! James

  44. Not sure if you're still looking for feedback but on mobile pages loaded just fine using Cowboys theme. Might have had a slight pause sometimes but it worked when using it yesterday. I use Vivaldi browser (it uses Chromium so under the hood it's like Chrome) on both phone and PC. Today when I was on PC this morning and some early afternoon it would think about it for about 5-10 seconds then the page would load. Not saying it as a complaint as just providing feedback but everything runs much, much better now. I can't thank you enough for all you've done, @jaedmc and if you have a Ko-Fi or something I'd love to give you some money for all you've done.

  47. The segments between Toni Storm and Mercedes Mone' are among the highest rated segments AEW has had over the last three years. They had multiple videos go viral on Twitter and Instagram. The women's division as a whole is infinitely better now in terms of quality than it was a year or two ago. You can attempt to give Toni Storm all of the credit (and Toni Storm does deserve a lot of credit) but most of her feuds aside from Mariah haven't reached those heights. Mercedes with others has also resulted in higher-than-average demo spikes if you really want to get into the numbers but most people here would rather not discuss those metrics because it isn't fun at all. You were wrong then and you are still wrong and I quoted you to tell you that you're wrong.

  49. Can I just say, as a woman, it's incredibly annoying to see people leap to "well they must be sleeping together" when a man is mentoring a woman. It attributes a shocking lack of agency to women, and presumes all we're there for is for sexual satisfaction of men (or that we're property that must be stowed away for one specific man to use). Spare me the stories about the reputation of any specific man you may want to throw at me, because 1) it could be the most chaste of relationships and the accusation still gets thrown out and 2) people who are sexually promiscuous, shocking though it may be to hear, are actually able to separate sexual pleasure from professional conduct. Imagine that!

  50. Road Report~! I absolutely love Philly and even if it's an hour and a half drive will find pretty much any excuse to go there, get a cheesesteak and check out whatever is going on. Since there was a very awesome show to go to I figured why not make a day trip out of it. My friend kept bugging me to go to Cleaver's but after looking up places Del Rossi's was the place to go to. I always got Cheese Wiz on cheesesteaks but after finding out about folks using Cooper Sharp it's now my go-to. The meat was amazing and the bread tasted great however the bread had way too much resistance when trying to chew. It didn't ruin it but had me thinking if you had the meat from Del Rossi's put on a bread from Angelo's it'd be at this point in time my perfect cheesesteak. So for now Angelo's is still my number one. After that it was on to some breweries starting with Yards (killer Oktoberfest), Future Days (amazing Helles lager with a caramel aftertaste) and some other place who's name escapes me (beer was okay but was in a converted historical building) After being properly beered out so on to the Arena! Got there about 3:45 and after having a flat crust pizza at some dive bar went back over to see Rev, Pete and two other guys. I think the one was Luke who said he lurks and another was Steve who I think was a friend of one the guys. They got there early because old habits from waiting for ECW tickets die hard and we were shooting the shit until doors opened at 6:30. I went one time to the arena when WWE had the Evolve show so I was used to seeing the upgrades they did from what it was. It looks great and is useful for all kinds of events but while I don't regret missing out on no AC and crappy bathrooms it was at the same time way too distant from what the ECW Arena was. But man, were the acoustics great as it became immediately evident when the show started. Oh, and it was covered in the other thread but I still can't believe a fucking DVDVR shirt was being sold at an AEW show. Tony, you wonderful sonofoabitch. I won't talk much about the Dean show as I don't want to spoil anything. But holy fuck it was everything you wanted in a tribute show and more and would have been very much Dean approved. I'll have it streaming on Discord when it airs on Honor Club. I will say that after Collision I found my way to the second row which incredibly allowed me to high five Pantera twice. This was my first Collision show and what a fucking killer first time. Mox/Garcia ruled, FTR vs. Priest/Billington was nice and hurty, women's tag was tons of fun and holy fuck did Briscoe/Takeshita deliver. It might have only had four matches but those two hours flew by and had some cool shit in between. And yeah, we flipped out when Bill mentioned Eddie's name. I realized now that I was so happy seeing DVDRers there and everything was so grand that I just couldn't help but get as involved as I could. I worry that in an effort to be part of chants and also to get the signs on TV (both Dean tribute ones) that I might have been annoying to some. I hope it wasn't the case but do kinda dread the possibility I might have been on TV more than I realized especially when I moved up to the 2nd row for the Dean show. Not sure if I'll watch any of this back but who knows. It dawned on me watching the second-to-last match that I'm at the ECW Arena, AEW's show finished not long ago and I'm seeing a tribute show for a beloved board member setup partly by a guy who still has love for and ties to the board. I mean, for real what the fuck?! This shit was pretty fucking cool and I'm thrilled I was able to see this with whoever was at the show. All goes well I'll see y'all at the next one.
