I think the biggest difference is Vince saw beyond the next money grab. Silver Lake wants to drain every penny out of WWE (and UFC) before they likely sell it all in the near future. They aren't worried about creating fans for future generations. It makes sense for Vince to cater to families because those kids grow up to be fans and they pass their fandom down to their own children. Corporate greed is much more about instant profits and let someone else deal with the fallout.6 points

Woke up earlier than I meant to today, gotta show tonight and doubt I get home before 1am. Put on DEAN 3 and before the first match was over I had a huge smile on my face. She noticed asked what was up and I tried explaining to her why. But How can I explain to her that this guy I never met in person helped inspire myself and many others to hunt down footage. And that when I met Damien Wayne right at 4 years ago when I mentioned Dean and this place he smiled and changed from worker mode to just chill mode. Makes me wish I had at least once sent Dean links to footage from the various MS/LA/AL indies I hit up. Or sent him my crappy road reports from going to Powerslam Production shows 12 years ago. I seriously doubt the all cage match Battlezone show I goto tonight will capture my attention like DEAN 3 did. But I also know that he would have loved being in a hot armory watching some deep south guys just beat the hell outta each other. Huge thx to everyone that has helped make each of the DEAN events. I need to get them all on dvd. So I can rip them put them on a vhs tape and add that to the permanent tape collection.4 points

I’d say “deserving” WWE is like deserving an STD or a bad fall. I like England and France too much to wish the presence of such a vile company on these wonderful countries. My Euro bros are too good for WWE. Fuck em. I’m just amazed they had the self awareness to wait a day, until 9/12, to announce Saudimania.4 points

watched Dean3~! this morning. it was a fun show. i feel like the AEW/ROH connection is awesome in concept, as it brings our little circle to a larger audience. But being tied so much to the current ROH roster and TV show detracted. The highlight for me was Demus/Connelly, but the lowlight was the ROH promos, and that every match featuring ROH talent felt like something you would see on their show with or without the DEAN~! association. WHERE WAS THE GYPSY JOE INVITATIONAL? i really hope this shows up on YouTube or somewhere else. i'd love to see the TK-Rasmussen family introduction as well (which i know about thanks to @Raven Mack's road report) but understand if they want to keep that to a more personal level. also, i caught these guys in the audience during the Billie Starkz match. While i personally appreciate that there's both a Rare shirt and an N64 shirt in the same shot, i choose to believe the Johnny Cash shirt was a specific choice.4 points

I didn't know about this until it showed in my Bluesky feed. But apparently Raven Mack was there which I certainly didn't know about until last night. Granted I never met him so wasn't sure what he looked like or what I'd say but still pretty neat to find out. Anyway, hope he doesn't mind me posting but here's his road report. https://www.patreon.com/posts/dvdvr-road-dean-1386720394 points

The segments between Toni Storm and Mercedes Mone' are among the highest rated segments AEW has had over the last three years. They had multiple videos go viral on Twitter and Instagram. The women's division as a whole is infinitely better now in terms of quality than it was a year or two ago. You can attempt to give Toni Storm all of the credit (and Toni Storm does deserve a lot of credit) but most of her feuds aside from Mariah haven't reached those heights. Mercedes with others has also resulted in higher-than-average demo spikes if you really want to get into the numbers but most people here would rather not discuss those metrics because it isn't fun at all. You were wrong then and you are still wrong and I quoted you to tell you that you're wrong.3 points

The worst part of that ticket price story is that it made me sorta miss Vince for a minute. "Oh, the rapist pervert criminal who used to run things? The one who looks like a dehydrated Labyrinth puppet with the clap? He was too focused on making shows affordable for families."3 points

Did some things to help speed up the board. So far it seems to be running a little snappier for me. Let me know if it's running faster for you. It may take a little bit to truly change, as we needed to change how we cache some things so the system is rebuilding itself in the background. But I'm hopefully some of the simple things I did will improve the speed a little. When responding just let me know if you notice any differences throughout the day and what skin you're using. And if you feel comfortable tell me if you're using an adblock.2 points

I watched FREAKY TALES tonight, and it has to be the most fun and unique premise for a movie I've seen in a while. NBA legend Sleepy Floyd on a quest for vengeance is a WILD concept.2 points

takeaways through 8 episodes of Rock'n'Wrestling: 1) Bobby Heenan is showing up in as many live action segments as humanly possible. His stuff is quality too, Bobby Heenan probably could have carried a kids show if there was interest in wrestlers on Saturday morning cartoon shows after 1986. IMDB insisting that the same voice actor voiced Bobby Heenan and Iron Sheik in an episode where Bobby Heenan is trying to get Iron Sheik a drivers license 2) Terry Funk showing up in the live action part of an episode is actually more of a surprise than Randy Savage showing up. 3) Piper just disappearing from the show for weeks, like he would disappear in real life, only to come back to help the corrupt mayor's re-election campaign. 4) wonder if the writers had to be talked out of doing any "Nation of Carbombya" level plots for Iron Sheik (Carbombya being the Transformers episode that led Casey Kasem to quit that show because holy fuck that's a bit racist even for 1980s kids cartoons) feels like they could have swapped out Snuka for George Steele eventually since they just kept Snuka around after he left the WWF.. Miss Elizabeth wasn't technically a face until mid-87 so the WWF really didn't have a face woman for a little bit to balance out Moolah2 points

Apparently Andrade is no longer with WWE. I know TK really likes him but I don’t think AEW should bring him back for now. Don’t need him, given their current roster. Lots of young talent to build and focus on. If he does come back, he’s gonna have to put a lot of people over for me to believe he’s changed.2 points

I'm sitting on my deck getting misty. I can't believe Ishinriki vs. Ueda has cagematch hype. I found that match clicking through puroarchive's archive.org account for days and days. My gimmick for that Secret Santo was using it as a reason to watch new matches and only recommending things I'd never seen before, and that match was the best thing I found. It was my platonic ideal of a DVDVR joint and I waited a good degree of weeks so I could gift it to DEAN. It reminded me so much of the matches that he and the Playaz hooked me up on when I was a kid, it was the closest I ever got to feeling like I was properly giving back. I wasn't doing great at the time and it's hard to read my old drunk + manic post about it but I remember finding and watching and sharing all those matches being a damn fine time. DEAN didn't write it up because he was in the hospital but I was stoked to see him drop a Thanks on it. It's phenomenal pro wrestling. Fan cam, deep cut, punk as hell, pure artform stuff.2 points

I'm noted as anti Punk as they come, but I totally agree with you on the McIntyre feud. That was tremendous. I know it doesn't help my own bias that I could go without Rollins and Punk unless theyre facing someone worthwhile, but them facing each other, it's my own personal worst case scenario. In my own dream booking scenario, Bronson and Bron would just merc both of them and give them 6-8 months off of TV for a reset.2 points

I'm not a big Punk fan and never have been but his feud with McIntyre had some good moments and their Hell in a Cell match was awesome. The shit he's been doing with Rollins is so flat. If anyone has ever had flat Pepsi it tastes awful.2 points

Sami/Fenix was pretty darn good and exactly what Fenix has needed after disappearing for a bit. Fenix is good, but he doesn't have the charisma and connection to be on and off shows while keeping momentum like his brother. Hopefully he starts to appear and do impressive shit more regularly. Tiffany/Jade built into something surprisingly good with this easily being the best match ttwo have had with each other yet and probably Jade's best match in WWE. The pacing, flow, and build all came together quite nicely. This is also th emost over Jade probably has been the past few months with the crowd getting behind her a decent bit. I only wish it had a true finish opposed to the double countout. That was done well, but I along with the crowd clearly wanted something more definitive. Will say I liked how fast they had Nia come out to attack. It kept things from turning. Orton/Drew built into something nice aside from the finish. The wrestling delivered through it needed more matches.2 points

I will say this: Nick Aldis is great at WWE Backstage Skit Comedy. As is Chelsea Green (Alba Fyre is getting there) and the Miz. So the segment with all 3 was pretty good fot that style2 points

Since I guess there is no real need for spoilers since we don't know when it will show. Here is who was in the Gyspy Joe Gauntlet that I can remember 1. First team was Covenant of the Goat complete with the classic Reverend Dan promo 2. Second team was the Ugly Ducklings and I believe Sal Rinaruo wearing a Jimmy Rave T shirt. Haven't seen Sal in a long time but I know he isn't retired. This version of the Ducklings was the one at DEAN 1. Always great to see White Mike Jordan 3. Third team I think was Team Chikara of Ultramantis Black, Hallowicked, and Frightmare 4. Fourth team I believe was Manders, TOBY KLEIN, and someone I am not sure of. I think it is Thomas Shire from Deadlock Pro and the Midwest indies I haven't seen Roby Klein in ages. And how does he grace us with his return, he did the fucking Necro Butcher VCR spot to the delight of at least me and all the sickos Here where it is a mess for me to remember There was a team involving Gary Jay and Slim J. Can't remember who the 3rd guy or if maybe they were in another team 5. Violence is Forever comes out with Dominik Garini, Kevin Ku, and I think Joe Black from ACTION wrestling 6. Next is the WorkHorsemen with JD Drake, Anthony Henry, and I can't remember the 3rd guy 7. Final team was Adam Priest, Tommy Billington, and Hologram. They ended up winning the whole thing. I believed Clone or Arez playing Evil Hologram showed up and got a great reaction Was this a great match? Not really but this match was built on chaotic action and surprises that will pop the DEAN crowd and probably some of the non DEAN crowd who have been to Arena shows for ages. I would have preferred a little more violence given the Gyspy Joe tribute but can't complain too much. My favorite match of the DEAN portion of the night For those at the show, please fill in the blanks2 points

Well, you had me open the first video on youtube just to see what they did re. his TV debut, and it's there. HHH's opponent in said match? While not being a murderer, let's just say if there is a hell, Zumhoff has long bought his ticket to Satan's place.2 points

meanwhile on non-murder topics I think the "accidental" elbow to the face would work just as well if you clap your hands which causes your elbow to hit the guy, the high five not having been invented during the prime of Thesz's career for all the "Lou Thesz says he did it the right way without theatrics" stuff, Lou Thesz did his share of wrestling like a street brawler2 points

Well, first off I think these media mergers are really bad in general for a lot of reasons. But for AEW specifically if this happens it almost guarantees they'd be off of TNT/TBS/HBO when their contracts are up (TKO/WWE is already fucking with them and trying to put them out of business, you think they'd share a streaming platform with them?)......and with the shrinking media landscape their options are going to be limited. TV will still be limping along but they'd probably be looking at Prime as the home of their "TV" programming, and it's going to be a buyers market1 point

Finished Worlds Collide. The 8-man tag was pretty fun with the LWO embracing their rudo sides. Sadly the minis were a bit off or to be more specific Sagrada seemed off. Did think Laredo Kid and La Parka came out of this looking pretty nice as both were pretty over with the crowd. Fabi vs. Nattie was pretty decent though not much more. Vice/Iguana vs. Finn/Roxanne was another fun match. Psycho/Pagano vs. Kofi/Waller was actually pretty solid even with some offness. The post match angle with the Wyatts beatdown was pretty good. Kind of hope it leads to Wyatts vs. the Circus. The Latin America title match was solid but disappointing with Wagner not really being made to look good. I assume it was a case of the other three being more familiar, but i was hoping Wagner would get more of a showcase. Dom/Vikingo was solid-good. Thought the finishing stretch was overbooking done right. Surprised Dom actually won though it makes sense with how over he is. Still probably a bit of a missed opportunity not building to him getting the win at major show in Mexico. None of the matches were great but plenty fun and solid for the most part. This crowd felt a bit more familiar with the AAA names than the last WC show though still mixed with plenty of regular WWE fans. Will be interesting to see where things go.1 point

That was a big move in Roller Derby in the early 70's. Concerning our murderers, I was friendly with Rebel, Snuka was cool at conventions and indy shows, I met Benoit once, New Jack threatened to beat me up and on a different day punched my friend in the face, and Tammy wouldn't recognize me, but Chris always did greet me.1 point

Pretty much anything mid-tier in the $400-500 (fuck, it may be more in the $600-700 now) range is going to be fine for what you're looking for. Acers and Asus are pretty good brands. For what you're doing any current or last gen processor will be fine. Stay the hell away from Chromebooks and consumer tier Lenovos.1 point

Cody had Arn as his "coach" in AEW (and gave us Armed Anderson) but I think Magnum coming to a drunked Hangman as ghost of Christmas future saying "son, you need to get off the sauce and get your head in the game" would have been a cool angle1 point

I'm surprised that American pro wrestling, in general, doesn't do more stories of modern wrestlers being mentored or trained by older wrestlers ("Cody Rhodes on the comeback trail goes to Magnum TA for guidance") or even just like "Lyra Valkyria leans the secret of the Diamond Cutter from DDP". I'm not sure if it would be a huge deal, but I think it would give younger wrestlers a bit of added credibility and allow you to recycle some simpler moves to be seen as finishers (Like if a big guy started using a chokeslam for a finisher, the crowd wouldn't be buy it, but if you had a taped segment where Kane teaches him the "hidden technique" of the chokeslam, you could maybe pass it off again as a finish) and would be some easy, taped segments to fill time. Like when AEW brought in Jake Roberts, he just talked for Lance Archer (and later...LFI for about five minutes), but Archer's wrestling and moveset didn't change, even if he'd just adopted Jake's short-arm clothesline it would've been kinda neat. Maybe it's just me.1 point
