  1. Batista didn't have Cody's HIAC performance, but Batista is Batista and Cody is Cody lol. Only saw the first Rumble and the Black Light Match. Whoever thought that the best way to get Cody over as a babyface ace was by letting him come in at 30 and eliminate a heel who drew number 1 and wrestle 80+ minutes should be fired immediately.

  2. I don’t feel like Cody is anywhere near DEFCON Batista right now. For the most part, I though they did some clever things to help him out, from getting to eliminate the two biggest heels in the match (Dom and Paul) to letting him dip into his Passion of the Cody bag by allowing Gunther to attempt to tear off his surgically repaired pec. He’s fine.

  3. Observations from the Alamodome: men’s rumble was great even if Cody winning doesn’t necessarily excite me. Eyes were on Gunther most of the time because he really was working every single second it seemed like. A lot of “iron man” spots include laying around, lying on the floor etc. No, Gunther was working every single second and sure seemed like he had more in the gas tank than even #30 out there. Thought the entrants from like 20-29 were some real chaff that had no chance of winning. Where was AJ? Shinsuke? Riddle? Hell, even Dolph? I don’t watch the weekly so maybe there’s an explanation. couldn’t really see shit during the Mountain Dew match, other than LA’s glow in the dark underwear. Had to look at the screen to even see Bray. I mean, sure it probably looked cool on camera at home but not much to look at live. The weird Uncle Howdy spot was weird because you couldn’t see any of it. Other than the initial explosion I couldn’t see any of them and the video showed an open flame but I couldn’t even see that. Really weird. A 51,000+ arena can get really quiet if it’s a woman’s match that has no question about who’s winning. Women’s Rumble was fun too, but wow there’s a lot of women doing absolutely nothing and I have literally have zero interest in. Section I was in was bashing hard on Dana Brooke, Emma, and B Fab. Holy cow they were vicious. Crowd got up for Becky, got really amped for Asuka. Roxanne and Racquel got decent pops. Was pretty content with Rhea winning, but I think you can argue that she didn’t necessarily need to win the Rumble, but it’s a good feather in her cap, and probably a great win for the Judgment Day. Also her hitting Riptide on Nia after notching the body slam was great. Main event was very good. Roman Reigns melodrama is one of my least favorite genres, and watching live without his midmatch commentary between moves is probably for the best. But the turn was awesome, made sense, and got nuclear heat. If they did this angle before the rumble, everyone would’ve booed the shit out of Cody winning. So good idea on their part, but how are they going to figure this out so Cody doesn’t get shit on for not being Sami? I don’t know. Most merch I saw was bloodline stuff. There were also a ton of San Antonio specific rumble stuff, like San Antonio 3:16 or some cheap looking Royal Rumble cowboy hats. Didn’t see a ton of Cody merch, unless I couldn’t tell what it was. A lot of Brock, a lot of Honorary Uce, but more blooline than anything. A ton of kids. Tons. All wearing Roman stuff, talking about how Roman was their favorite and he gonna kill Kevin Owens. I’m not sure this type of booking is necessarily right for the childrens. Maybe goodie two shoes Cena wasn’t so bad. We live in a society.

  4. WWE were right to close the show with this. This Bloodline work is some of the best in the whole history of WWE.

  5. The last match was epic in the story it told. Explains why Jey hated Sami for a long while. Sami was basically Jey after Roman broke him during their fued, an eager to please bootlick. Eventually, Sami won him over by doing whatever was needed to help the Bloodline and Roman discarded him the moment he wouldn't beat down a defenseless KO. Jey just realized family means nothing to Roman. It's all about Roman and Jey couldn't bear it. Great long-term storyline.

  6. That last 20 minutes was…Jesus Christ. Gunther staking his early position in the 2023 wrestler of the year race. That was a magnus opus. Elsewhere, 1997 wet mullet, Lowrider-themed Eddie Guerrero might be the sleaziest wrestler of all time. Papi is looking down proudly at the absolute shit stain, S-tier slimeball Dominic has become. Holy shit. But yeah that ending legitimately deserves an Emmy or Oscar or whatever the fuck

  10. Split the titles: Sami and Cody win their respective WrestleMania nights. Cody on Night 1 with his Attitude Era style run ins and wildness. Roman loses and is super pissed. He’s gonna kill Sami. Night 2 he almost does, but Sami pulls through. Everyone cries happy tears. Or you reverse the order so Sami gets the first win. Either way, good stuff and it’ll give you two home run aces. Roman gets a vacation if he wants one. OR, you have the Uso’s super duper beat up Sami. Like unforgivable rage-filled massacre that makes you say, Roman who? Sandpaper to the face, knuckles to the nose, teeth to the ear type beating. But even then, it’d take some magic to get there. They’ve done a pretty good job with this storyline (and really Cody’s WWE Run as well has been truly magical) that I happily can’t predict what they’ll do and will likely enjoy the outcome. I’m fearfully trusting of WWE which I haven’t been in a long time. —- As for the Men’s Rumble (the other match I watched, I came in late) here’s random notes: Gunther looked like Lebron on a losing Finals team. Totally protected. Shemus and Drew looked like A-tier characters. Their constant battles with Gunther was the entire match. Dominic is top level slimeball. Mask vs Hair with Rey and give him a mullet wig if he loses, please. Omos looked good! First time seeing him in a long time and I loved his trash talk. The right level of reactions to strikes. Braun and Brock were protected as fearful monsters who didn’t win. Richochet and Logan Paul spring board dual crossbody was the moment of the match. Hopefully Kofi isn’t hurt. I didn’t know he was eliminated until Brock was angrily circling the ring. I was hoping because his leg was still up he’d fly in the air out of nowhere and leapfrog Brock or something. Great use of continuing Cody vs Rollins. With Logan Paul eliminating Seth, I wonder if that’s a Mania match. Production Value is interesting. They illuminate the wrestlers so well. They just look like stars. But the cutting is just too wild at moments. I can tell it’s better than it was but nothing is allowed to breath. Jump for drop kick, CUT, drop kick lands, CUT, same shot you had before. In a rumble match you of course need a lot of cutting, but mid-move same action cuts among all the other jumping around can get tiresome. Also, I wish the camera stayed on the Gable vs Woods grappling. Predictable outcome but the best choice. The end had me squirming a bit. I loved Cody getting his head pushed down by Gunther’s foot while they were on the top turnbuckle. Also the sleeper hold sequence I thought would end it.

  11. Putting Cody in the same zip code as Sami at EC, much less the same ring, would be the worst booking choice since WCW decided to go all in on Master P. He will be embarrassed to a biblical degree.

  12. As a fan of the ol wrestling, these feel like the good times: WWE is doing very well at what it does (arena shows, big four PPV's, celebrities, main event drama). The summer blockbuster superhero movies of wrestling. AEW is doing very well at what it does (weekly episodic tv, in-ring action, surprises, a bit more "raw" feel). The prestige, bingewatched Netflix or HBO series of pro wrestling. Impact is fun at what it does (goofy comedy, not taking itself too seriously, using its lower budget to its advantage). The FX comedy series of pro wrestling (though Speedball or Josh would fuck you up). Ok NJPW is in a bit of a rut but hopefully this NOAH angle with Okada helps turn things around. 2023 wrestling rules!

  13. I thought both Rumbles were…fine-ish. Both had some standout moments (loved the women’s finish), but overall it just feels like the art of putting together a good Rumble has been lost. And having two on the same night just underscores how nobody seems to have any new ideas for it.

  15. The Bloodline stuff is some of the best storytelling in wrestling history. Everything is more compelling by the week. It ties in two years of storytelling and even to the early days of NXT considering Sami and KO’s friendship. It really is the best thing on television at the moment. It is one of those things where wrestling really shows itself as art and is doing so without wearing that on its sleeve. The catharsis of the moment is not going to be Sami beating Roman. The moment is going to be Jey returning to his place under Roman’s thumb (under the guise of family) and KO returning to rescue Sami after he forgives his best friend. And I think that is a lot better and intricate than Sami beating Roman.

  16. Gotta give a lot of love to KO for selling that ass beating. When KO got thrown into the stairs twice, that's the first move that's made me cringe in a long time. KO more than earned his paycheck. The Bloodline story: *chef's kiss*

  18. Jesse the Body mode ON Mack-Man, that sniveling disloyal rat Sammy Zayne made me sick at the Royal Rumble. He had a chance to show Roman Reigns how loyal he is and he sure did, Mack-Man. When I was a Navy Seal in Vietnam, you knew some of the people there would frag the commanding officer when they got upset. Roman is Sami’s commanding officer and Sammy betrayed Roman when Roman just wanted to teach Kevin Owens a lesson. I don’t understand why so many people are on Sammy’s side. He’s the sort of guy that would get his head shoved in the toilets in high school. He should be happy that Roman let him be an Honorary Uce. Instead Sammy wants to bail out his old friend Kevin Owens, like how the government bailed out the banks with taxpayer money and he’s gonna lie about Roman like how the government lied to invade Iraq. Mack-Man, a man’s word used to mean something and Sammy Zayne’s word don’t mean nuttin. Jesse the Body mode OFF

  23. I am not sure how they transition to Cody either.. obviously this was supposed to be Sami and KO vs. The Usos and that could still happen of course but Sami is so fucking white hot right now.. idk The end was just so fucking good, WWE hasn't been that good in ten years. Roman saying "or you can just go and do more jackass shit!" Was great.. he was well deserving of those Fuck You chants. Jey Uso has been a revelation. He can be a star too, him walking out made so much sense. Jimmy Uso looked like a killer, go look at his expressions.. Solo is a machine, Paul is Paul everyone is perfect.

  24. Men's rumble was good. Thought a lot of the eliminations were well done. Brock was used sparingly and correctly. Dug how Judgement Day was used and Dom staying in the match for so long. Gunther came out looking fantastic coming in at no. 1 and being the last guy out. The extended Cody/Gunther segment was good as well. It was not amazing overall, but pretty enjoyable from start to finish. Bray/Knight was fine. Bianca/Alexa was solid though nothing super standout. Women's rumble was less good than the men's though still decent. Damage Ctrl. dominating at points was neat and their eventual elimination worked well enough. Was nice seeing Becky try her damndest to beat them all on her own. Roxanne getting so much love was good to see. Pity she wasn't in longer. Was happy to see painted clown face Asuka. Corey was so damn excited to see it as well along with the crowd. Michelle McCool's entrance was actually amusing. Doudrop going back to Piper McNiven was good to see. Thought Piper, Raquel, and Rhea all looked strong in this. Nia being the big 30 surprise was a WTF moment, but they worked it out well with everyone hating her and aligning to get her ass out. The finish with Rhea, Asuka, and Liv was good. Roman/KO was unsurprisingly good. The real drama was the post match segment. That shit was amazing. Sami is the best. I kind of feel sorry for Cody. He is either losing to Roman on Night 1 or will be getting booed at not being Sami when the title match goes down.

  30. They're not splitting the titles, as split titles cheapens someone finally taking the Universal at least and ending Roman's 5th longest reign of all time. But it's lucky Roman actually has a second streak active to break and that can actually be done without giving up a belt. Roman hasn't been pinned since December 2019 (a fact Cole brought up a few times last night). You can satisfy both stories without splitting the belts. Sami pins Roman in a tag match and ends that streak, then Cody wins the belts at Mania. Sami doesn't need the belt to "win" the feud. He just needs to break either of Roman's streaks and prove he's beatable.

  31. Last thought from me is that I thought the announce team really stood out last night. Cole and Pat are the best in the company since JR/Heyman and Graves was great in his role of reminding the viewer of long term continuity while toning down the overt heelishness. They really ran the full gamut from high comedy to serious drama and nailed it. Shit for large parts of this show they were basically Excalibur and Taz on Dark. Cole’s continuous shitting on Top Dolla is just tremendous.

  32. I’m not dead set on any fantasy bookings and I’m sure the story will turn out well. I will say that a lesser example of this scenario would be the Hangman Saga. Kenny Omega dropping the Impact title to Christian Cage didn’t hurt the inevitable outcome of Hangman’s arc. It allowed Impact to have their belt split away from the storyline and Hangman’s victory wasn’t dampened. Sami’s arc is more Reigns/Bloodline based and Cody’s is more strictly title/legacy based. This being back to back nights, I do see your point, but I still think it is very much doable and all the performers involved would be able to pull it off. How they could get Cody into the feud, they have until April. I’m assuming with his Rumble win, they already have a plan to weave things together. I don’t know how, but I totally didn’t see the Jey reaction happening. So even if it is Sami or Cody and not both, I'm trusting their process. The fact that I’m this invested in a WWE story is astounding work! It wasn’t that long ago I was pretty much out on the product.

  33. An added layer is how Sami Zayn and Jey Uso have gone on in this story. Jey couldn't stand Sami despite Sami's best efforts. Jey finally accepted him in WarGames, stopped Solo Sikoa from hitting Sami with the Samoan Spike on RAW and didn't attack Sami unlike the rest of the Bloodline here.

  34. I can't think of a worse source of real information than carny Hogan telling carny Angle who then tells us. We literally just saw him walking around on stage six days ago, which was the same event Kurt said that Hogan told him that. He was walking about as well as any 70 year old does (and without a cane). Not saying he didn't have surgery and he may use a cane for stability purposes when in congested areas, but sounds like a typical exaggeration from ol Hulkster. Course, I feel bad for his situation the same I do for Mick, Funk, Muto, and others. A life of wrestling doesn't lead to healthy life, I'm more amazed when an older wrestler isn't broken.

  36. Couple notes on the Rumble matches. Gunther vs. Cody was tremendous. Gunther is a made man from here on out. Star performance. Rhea/Liv/Asuka was a fun final 3 with a creative finish. Asuka looked so badass too, so glad she's back.

  37. Up until tonight I would have thought Cody was a shoe-in to win the belt from Roman as he's got a legit comeback story and is the only thing remotely resembling a fresh face out there, but like someone said he's now Batista to Sami's Bryan before WM 30. I just hope they don't end up with a three way match at Mania. Sami winning the EC and Roman dropping one of the belts to someone who defends against Cody is the best way to go. If Gunther wasn't already the IC champ I'd find a way to get him a title match with Roman at EC, win one of the belts, and defend against Cody. I think the two of them would have great chemistry.

  41. I got my wishes! Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan at 1:01:11 (2023). Both went the entire match. First women to do the hour. Bianca Belair previously held the record, 56:52 (2021). Only five have won from #1: Shawn Michaels (1995), Chris Benoit (2004), Rey Mysterio (2006), Edge (2021) and Rhea Ripley (2023). Five have won from #30: The Undertaker (2007), Shawn Michaels (2008), Triple H (2016), Brock Lesnar (2022) and Cody Rhodes (2023). I said Daniel Bryan's 1:16:05 record (2018) will never be beaten, GUNTHER came close at 1:11:25 (2023). I really can't see GUNTHER's getting topped in a traditional Royal Rumble match. Really going to go some there. The previous longest was Rey Mysterio's at 1:02:12 (2006). Mysterio's is the most by a winner. GUNTHER's the first to do the hour since Chris Jericho's 1:00:13 (2017). Only 10 entrants have ever done 60 minutes: Ric Flair, 1:00:02 (1992). Chris Jericho, 1:00:13 (2017). Triple H, 1:00:16 (2006). Bob Backlund, 1:01:10 (1993). Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan, 1:01:11 (2023). Chris Benoit, 1:01:35 (2004). Rey Mysterio, 1:02:15 (2006). GUNTHER, 1:11:25 (2023). Daniel Bryan, 1:16:05 (2018).

Jacob Fatu retains his title after a top rope frankensteiner, moonsault and a rikishi driver Board favorite Davey Richards took home lightweight title to the delight of fans who take wrestling seriously Sinn Bodie and Big Al Hammerstone wrestled a scientific match in which they both attempted to work a body part to a double count out to the delight of not one. So you got a couple of ass holes named The Border Patrol waving a Think Blue Line Flag around who do you send out THE GATES OF AGONY!!!! TOA and Kaun had the ROH titles with them, Sorry BP no "operation get the fuck out of here" tonight! (side note one of my favorite wrestling memories has PCW running pretty much the same match a few years ago just with Warbeast instead of GOA, BP ends the prematch promo with "God Bless Donald Trump" which does not go well for him as he ends up hand cuffed to the top rope getting punched with a second set of handcuff by an irate Jacob Fatu who yells "fuck you and fuck trump") Viva Van and Masha Slamovich must have heard about the HHHH v Queen Emi match and tried to top it by slamming and throwing each other on their respective heads. Big pop for the Tarantula for Viva, I loved Tajri doing the move back in the day! Chavo Guerrero was the guest of honor talked about how his family wrestled at the Olympic Auditorium back in the in the 70's. Looked stylish in a black leather coat and a cool Ramones style shirt that read Guerrero on it. Opening match the heal started mouthing off to him, so Chavo came down to ring side leading the the heel getting rolled up for the loss. 47. Rare disagreement with you, my friend. Roman Reigns losing one of the world titles telegraphs the outcome of the second night. Bigger still Roman losing with run-ins is still Roman losing. That moment needs to be saved for Roman Reigns first pinfall loss in years for both belts. Said earlier in the topic splitting both world titles dilutes the moment. I'd rather Cody Rhodes lose night one and Sami Zayn wins night two. I hope we don't get a triple threat route. Inserting Rhodes into the Bloodline angle feels off. I still think it'll be Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and Usos vs. Sami Zayn/Kevin Owens with Reigns/Zayn at Elimination Chamber before in Montreal.
