  1. I wish I could remember the guy's name (I wanna say Jeff Katz) but he did some WCW internet audio shows with Rude. He said they were doing one show that was boring as hell so Rude decided to mess with the crowd. Rude was like, "watch this. I'm gonna piss off that entire section without saying a word." Their broadcast position was kind of on an elevated crows nest thing so Rude stood up and just made eye contact with this one woman who was there with her b/f. He just held eye contact with her and smirked at her and her b/f. He did this for like 5 minutes and the boyfriend is cussing at him and then people around noticed what was going on and started looking. He just kept on smirking and looking and the whole section started yelling at him. Then he just sat down and continued doing play by play while that whole section was screaming at him.

  2. Rude was a genius because he understood the brilliant simplicity of making people mad at him and then delighting them by bugging his eyes out and walking funny after receiving groin or tailbone trauma. It’ll always play.

  3. Not to be the "make it about AEW always" guy, but with the talk about ticket prices for WWE and WES there, this seems like a ripe situation for TK & Co. to swoop in and offer extremely affordable seats at Craven Cottage to endear themselves to the British fandom

  5. i had a buddy get married on May 19th. it was either this same year or the next. i just remember calling him at all hours from random phones and just repeating the "may 19th" or whatever from these segments. i don't know if he ever "got" it (he was an on again, off again fan) but me and my other friend thought it was hilarious.

  6. You know how, in general, it’s hard for Japanese wrestlers to connect with the broader US audience, but sometimes a guy like The Great Muta or Tajiri comes around and that broader audience is like “shit, this guy is awesome”? I am convinced that Takeshita is one of those guys.

  7. Oh man, just watched Konosuke Cinnabon Takeshita take on Adam Brooks in DPW and then THIS comes on! A big night of wrestling! Dark Order to be beaten to death by House of Black! They cut out the HoB entrance- a price we pay for wall to wall wrestling. Hey, The Dark Order are getting some stuff in. THEN they tag in Fuego del Sol and Buddy Matthews is AWESOME using Penta's arm breaker. Brodie King is so menacing. Fuego is a great being the most in peril face in the history of wrestling. He SURVIVES! The Dark Order are actually allowed to make a match of this. This is the best Evil Uno ever looked. That match was fucking beautiful. Oh man. the AssClaimed section is solid gold. "Yeah, PaPA, what are we going to do?" Why would they have a intro for Shawn Spears? WALL TO WALL WRESTLING, JERKS! It's Big Damo! Awesome flying BODY ATTACK by DAMO! And Spears wins for some reason. MORE BIG DAMO! Whatever keeps him out of CYN. Why is Shawn Spears talking on Rampage? WALL TO WALL WRESTLING! YESS! THE BADDIES COMBAT CLUB! Red Velvet is so much better as a member of the BCC. Red Velvet has to win. The WHOLE thing. Let's get these gals over. C'mon! Cheat to win. Red Velvet does the Ric Flair beg off from Stat during the picture in picture. Red Velvet is now AWESOME. YES! Break her leg, Keira! BCC! BCC! Stupid Kris Statlander and who stupid wrestling ability. Nice German Suplex. Kris kicks out of the Final Slice! Velvet kicks out of a SWEET Blue Thunder Bomb! This match is fucking great. Stat wins but the BCC whips everybody's asses! YESSSSS! KICKEM! KICKEM LIKE A DOG! Ruby Soho means JAde Cargill has to settle things. So fucking great! Anna Jay comes out with a FOREIGN OBJECT when it's THREE ON THREE! BOOO! BADDIE COMBAT CLUB FOREVER! That was the best match I've seen either of these gals in. It's amazing what a little heat will do for a match. The Men of the Year and Sammy is awesome in its WEIRDNESS. Toni Storm vs Britt is going to be good. AAND the BLACKPOOL COMBAT CLUB will now beat the life out of Dante Martin and Matt Sydel! Matt Sydel is hilarious being a total hippy in the face of total hippy Bryan Danielson. God, what an assbeating. Matt Sydel looks good until the GREATEST THING IN THE HISTORY OF PRO WRESTLING takes over. God, Sydel gets beaten to death in picture in picture. Dante gets in a flurry and the do a great submission section by Danielson/ This match becomes fucking GREAT as Dante Martin shows the FIGHTING SPIRIT. What a great fucking match! AMAZINGLY overdelivered tonight. AEW RULES THE FUCKING WORLD.

  10. Rick Rude is the wrestler death that, outside of Eddy, makes me the saddest because could you imagine how goddamn good he would have been still stooging around in his 50s and 60s?

  11. Why would you make belts for a tournament when you could make a big trophy that can get broken over someone's head?

  12. Loved Hangman vs Takeshita, it was all I wanted. Both guys have similar styles with extremely heavy hands and feet and you could feel it. I was expecting the GTS from Hangman but I can’t be the only one that thought he was going for a Pepsi Plunge for a second there, right? I feel Eddie has kinda been lost in the shuffle now that there’s so many people involved in this feud, specially throwing two massive superstars into the mix, which strangely feel like background extras a bit. It’s weird Bryan being so quiet on the mic lately since Regal came in. I don’t get why Jeff is wrestling every week when the guy is clearly hurting with every breath he takes. He should be saved for special tag matches and that’s it at this point.

  15. Statlander going all in (heh) on power/hoss mode RULES. Main event was killer, easily the best Sydal match in recent times, and the other 3 obviously brought it.

  18. Hard to say. It gets much higher ratings than WWE, but then AEW is on Channel 3 (103 technically), which is free to everyone with a television. Whereas WWE is on Channel 527 which costs way extra, But they've never toured, and they've barely had anyone under contract come over and work a Britwres indie show. So that's a Don't Know.

  20. HOW DARE SHE WALK OUT ON THE COMPANY LIKE THAT!!! SHE NEEDS TO HONOR HER CONTRACT!!! SHE'S SUCH A MARK FOR HERSELF!

  21. As for Cole going full stooge mode on Naomi and Sasha. "They let the millions of fans down" Lol. Company is so tone deaf. Nobody is on their side. Even if the company made any valid points vs. talent, they've spent the last 25 years being the "Evil Empire" on screen and most importantly behind the scenes. They'll never win the court of public opinion.

  24. negative engagement and catharsis with all the fat boiled away, the core element of pro wrestling. [and social media. man, Rick Rude would've owned at Twitter, too, if he'd wanted to.]

  31. After hearing Regal's health issues on Jericho's pod, it scared the shit out of me when he just punched Jericho. I think he's definitely done.

  32. My feelings on Adam Cole are mixed. I don't really care for the guy. He's not automatic change the channel material for me, but I don't look forward to seeing him. I've enjoyed some of his matches and some have left me rolling my eyes. So, I'm in the same boat as a lot of you here. The interesting thing is, he's extremely over with AEW crowds. So, it's not a case of TK shoving something down our throats that isn't over. He's over as hell, but he's definitely not my thing. So, while I don't want to see him win the Owen, it's kind of hard to say it's bad booking.

  33. Let me say this and I'll go. No one freely signs a contract, in capitalist conditions there are always relations of domination and oppression. People sell their labor power because they need to cover their basic needs, thus becoming part-time slaves. I think Sasha has always been seen as someone who is injury prone and can't be counted on long term plans.

  35. i'm not gonna read the whole thread, but here's thoughts: starting off with Samoa Joe? awesome! and the joker is Johnny Nitro? fantastic!! good match too, even if i saw Johnny directing traffic from the top rope. Hangman Page vs. Takeshita was fucking awesome. Never seen Takeshita before his match a week or two back vs. Lethal. the man's damn good. Lee & Swerve are top 5 ranked now? they've had what? 3 matches? i thought AEW's tag division was supposed to be stacked. Wardlow looked king-sized in taking the lashes. excellent segment. O'Reilly vs Fenix was a lot of fun. FUCK YOU AEW for making me excited for Samoa Joe vs. Fenix and then not booking it. i like KOR the most out of his trio, but that's a pretty low bar. the jericho/JAS - Regal/BCC bit sucked. but i did appreciate Jericho insinuating Stadium Stampede, only for Moxley to immediately shut it down. women's match was fine. TBH i wasn't really that interested. Maki Itoh was a nice surprise, but obviously she wasn't going over here. serena deeb's promo wasn't great either. i could tell she was speaking from the heart, but it just didn't translate. i'm still looking forward to the match, tho. Cole/Hardy? bleh. don't care about either of these guys.

  38. It's difficult, given you've gotta build the ROH reboot as a big deal, but I also would love to see Daniel Garcia beat Yuta for the Pure title, and then refuse to defend it unless it's in wacky gimmick matches like a Punjabi Prison or a Tuxedo match.

  39. I think Claudio is coming in. There are guys when they come on the market that are just obvious no-brainers to Khan and it's not hard to figure out who they are because they tend to be total no-brainers to us too. Even if we're not right to think so or even if we might discount someone else. I'm pretty certain he feels like he HAS to have Claudio on his roster. And when you have guys like Regal in interviews outright saying that if he was a promotion owner, he'd cut four guys to hire Claudio...

  42. No doubt it is insanely hard to do. I can't stand WWE's style of production, but I am always VERY impressed at how clean their shows are for the most part. That's especially considering how many hours of live tv they do in a given week. I also get frustrated with the lack of quality in AEW's taped backstage segments. The point of taping something is that you can get it just right. For example, I would have had Red Velvet and Stratlander doing more takes on that promo from last night. There's no reason for it to have aired that way. Same with the Sydal promo. If you try a couple takes and it's just not working, cut it down to something super short and simple. Hell, if I was in charge of AEW's taped segments, the talent would HATE me. I'd be like David Fincher with the takes.
