  1. Jungle Boy is nowhere near ready for that kind of responsibility. Give him a chance to grow for the love of god. Let him evolve before you throw him to the top. He's not even 25 yet.

  5. These are guys that we’re booking themselves into oblivion at the start of the company according to a lot of people. They’re going to get their comeuppance. And I just disagree entirely that Omega should have lost the title to Jungle Boy and then won it back a few weeks later or whatever. To me, the endgame is Hangman Page, and that’s the only person Omega should lose to eventually. Now if you wanted a quickie change, I think Moxley dropping it during the “pandemic era” would have been perfectly fine.

  6. I understand your opinion of Kenny Omega. It's neither right nor wrong, because it's an opinion. Normally I try not to debate opinions because people don't just change the way they feel on things often. But this quote needs to be put into context a bit. Who is his promo supposed to be getting over? A promo is either spoken promotion for a specific match, or spoken promotion for a specific character. "Self indulgent"... IS his character. "Pretentious"... IS his character. So his promos ARE getting him over. You may not like his promos. You may not like his character. You also clearly don't like his work. But they have a clear purpose. Make people hate Kenny Omega. Like who gets over from a Christian promo other than Christian? Who gets over from an Eddie Kingston promo other than Eddie Kingston? Ya know what I mean? Promos aren't meant to get other people over very often. They are meant to build you up or your specific angle or match up. People don't want to hear this but Kenny's doing the millennial version of Ric Flair. People in the early 80s hated Flair. Everything gets retcon'd now with the benefit of hindsight. He was liked by a small vocal minority but the general fan that paid to come to the shows were just as annoyed with Flair in the moment as people seem to be with Kenny right now. Which is why having Flair on the card always drew so well. Everyone wanted to see him get his ass kicked. But more often than not you got a heat finish with his goons. Sound familiar?

  7. Just watched the main event. Jungle Boy is awesome. Kenny Omega is super awesome.

  8. I'm sure I'm not, but sometimes I feel like one of the only people who thinks Kenny Omega is fantastic, and one of the best wrestlers in the world despite his various much discussed irritating habits, while The Bucks are unbearable one trick ponies who look like they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. I know both those opinions separately are quite widely held, but it's mad how rarely they get expressed together, considering that they're objectively the correct ones.

  9. Fucking awesome show and awesome main event. While there is an nWo vibe with the Elite right now, they're all so good that I don't care. Nick Jackson the quiet Buck, is finally bringing all of his wacky BTE stuff to tv and now he has an actual personality. Dude cracked me up twice tonight. Did I hear that right? Trent needed spinal fusion surgery? If that's correct then holy shit, that sucks. I feel really bad for the guy.

  11. A little hard to take this "Omega is super bad at promos" thing seriously when you just advocated for the worst promo in AEW, in Jungle Boy, becoming the World Champion tonight. I don't disagree with you about Omega on the stick, but...

  12. Jungle Boy is a fucking star. If he can put it together, promo wise, then the sky is the goddamn limit for him in AEW. I echo the sentiment of “when did Miro become a really good promo?” because I’ve been loving his stuff as of late. As for the argument of Omega and the Bucks should be in the back half of their reigns - I disagree on that for Omega, but I do think the Bucks will drop the titles sooner rather than later. Omega isn’t losing the title until the next PPV, minimum. And if it’s not Adam Page, then what are we even doing? (I’m also not a fan of Omega’s promos, but I do admire that he cheeses it up like an 80s villain. I love insider shit in my wrestling so the Bucks are right up my alley ??)

  13. Whoever is directing these "look at the camera and say your shit" backstage vignettes has the right idea. They read a lot different then the one-take cutaways we've been getting over the last year. Even the Bucks shittin' on Brandon was focused and coherent. And when did Miro become the BEST PROMO IN THE WORLD? It's like if Nikita Koloff was an actual insane Lithuanian dude meets what children on Reddit (who have watched >10 Minoru Suzuki matches) think subtitled Minoru Suzuki promos sound like meets that one Key and Peele MMA sketch. If this version of Miro were the bad guy in any 80's action movie he would be more memorable than any protagonist. We need to name a constellation after him.

  15. Fans clearly don’t want whatever the last twenty years of a mainstream monopoly on pro wrestling has given them. If the opposite of the last twenty years is long story arcs and characters that change then that is what those fans want. Wrestling has had so many raging madmen evil geniuses, lucky underdogs, family feuds, violent drunks, psychopaths, anti-social anti-heroes and manic depressives. Adam Page is a depressed drunk. Kenny Omega is trying to be Machiavellian with every move he makes. He ends up looking delusional. He isn’t delusional when he boasts about his talent and accomplishments. That earns him credibility…which he continually mortgages against his huge ego. Fans loved him until his delusions of grandeur turned him completely after he beat Moxley.

  16. I too think one of the most important parts in building up a future star is giving said wrestler at quickie World title reign as his first ever championship win before losing it back to the other guy a few weeks later.

I'm very worn out with treating The Beatles like a religion and not a band we can admit made mistakes at points, but having said that I think it's fucking amazing they just randomly invented an entire genre of electronic music and tape looping which basically was "Radiohead", did one dope song with it, and just walked away and never touched it again

  23. Yeah that doesn’t really help your case here though. This just seems like another case of your extreme dislike of Omega - which is fine, even if I think you’re wrong and you take it to Cornette levels of hate for the guy - but let’s not pretend Jungle Boy is ready to be the top guy in the company, please. He’s good, but he’s not there 100% there yet.

  24. Is Sasha out there advising people to not get vaccinated? I'm not paying much attention to the story, but it seems like someone went through her likes looking for something controversial to stir people up about. Is there more to it than that? I don't know that I want people judging who I am as a person on the basis of one or two liked posts. I like posts for a variety of reasons, often without knowing too much about who or what made the post. I think i probably occasionally like posts by people I don't like or respect because they said something funny or made a point about a particular issue that I agree with. Personally, I don't feel like there are many valid reasons not to get vaccinated and I don't have much patience for anti-vaxxers who babble at me about their freedom or experimental or their choice or whatever. I'm even a little skeptical when people tell me they can't get vaccinated for medical reasons, though since I'm not a doctor, I'm guessing a very select few may have a valid concern on that front (a lot fewer than make the claim) That said, I find it odd to get bent out of shape because a person I'll never meet has an opinion I don't agree with. Sasha didn't ask my opinion and doesn't need it. If I ever find myself in a conversation with her, I'll gladly explain to her why I think her stance (if it's really her stance) is wrong-headed, but till then getting offended because the woman I watch perform on tv once in a while has an opinion I don't agree with is silly. I don't know the first thing about her as a person, so I'm not in a position to have a valid opinion on what she thinks or feels about anything. Trying to pretend I have a valid opinion on Mercedes Varnado is probably just going to make me look idiotic because it's most likely going to be based on a lot incorrect assumptions and incomplete information.

  25. Damn, that show delivered. That main event was probably the best Omega singles match I've seen in AEW. Jungle Boy was great out there. The Konan/Tully interview segment also ruled, the Bunny/Statlander match was quite good, and Hobbs/Page gave me exactly what I wanted. Real good show, this. Not even Vicky Guerrero could kill it.

  26. I think that was the most I have enjoyed Kenny in the ring since Dominion 6/9/18. They match up about as well as we were all expecting. That crowd was great all night, at least from what I saw (my wife has night shift so I was looking after the girls, but they kindly let me watch the whole main event match without interruption, which I appreciated). Looking forward to watching the replay more closely, but for me at least that championship match totally lived up to my high expectations. I loved seeing Jungle Boy's family's reactions as well.

  29. Then maybe as an employer he should learn about his personnel so he doesn't end up stepping in it like that. And I'm sorry but I just don't buy this entire idea of "we hired this guy to make the hard decisions", because they don't have to make the hard decisions. They're rich. They can wipe their asses with the money they have. They don't have to fire anybody. And if their paranoia wasn't so through the roof they wouldn't have hired anyone to fire in the first place.

  30. The thing with heel characters like The Elite is that, at some point, they need to get their comeuppance. Fingers crossed that it comes and is something satisfying for the invested fans.

  32. In re: Sasha, I think like-policing your favorite wrestlers is some real weirdo fan shit to do, even when it comes to this. I feel like, you know, mind your own business! If someone starts posting about it or can't stop themselves from talking about it in interviews, that's different and fair game. And I think someone else said it above, too, but I would also reiterate that while I don't think wrestlers are stupid or inherently conservative, I do think wrestling (like MMA) draws in a certain type of person. Knuckleheads, maybe, is the term I'm looking for? Not stupid, but kind of stubborn and strange and with an idiosyncratic view of themselves and the world. You have to be a little nuts just to do it, is what I mean, and even though workers today seem a lot better adjusted than back in the 80s or even the 90s, I think it's an industry where you are gonna find a higher than average incidence of cranks.

  38. Clearly we have different definitions of "greatness." I'd like for tag team matches, particularly championship matches, to involve things like selling, psychology, and perhaps two guys who are 5'8, 185 on their best days not physically steamrolling two guys who look like Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. The Bucks are "great" because they are allowed to book themselves that way. "Tony said sell!" Kenny is interesting. In a vacuum, I understand his appeal. I just wish he was capable of having more than one match. Everything is exactly the same. Offense, sell, weird tap dance, comeback, shitty convoluted finish. And now that the Bucks and Omega are intertwined, it makes their smarky bullshit extra intolerable. The one word I wouldn't use to describe any of it is "great." Unless it's in the context of "oh, that Elite segment is finally over? Fuckin' great!"

  39. Omega and Jungle Boy both continue to rip it up. Great match. Stoked for the Bucks and Kingston-Penta. Geez, it really must be rough being one of you dudes watching these shows pretending to yourselves that Omega and the Bucks aren't as great as they prove nearly every time out. The Guevera entrance music and then run-in was a little or a lot silly. The promo on MJF was well delivered, but incredibly lame. Tully/FTR-Konnan, Miro, Pillman, DMD, Bucks/Young Boy Cutler, Hangman-Hobbs and the wonderful Men of the Year all contributed in making this a fantastic show. Anybody catch JR's hilarious 'that takes testicles' line?

  40. Sucks about Trent's injury, as Best Friends were some of the unsung heroes of AEW in the first year or so of TV before Trent's pec injury. Was hoping for them to get a tag title run at some point, but that may be well down the line now. While I disagree with The Elite being anywhere near as bad as NWO 1997-1998, I would say that both Omega and the Bucks should be in the latter half of their title runs. Not sure if I would go with them both losing at All Out, but I would have Hangman beating Omega then (and great to see that Hangman was one of the most popular guys with a big audience again since he should start the title chase soon).
