  1. Dearest wife, Its day three of the great crash pad war. I'm beginning to get weary. Water and sustainence are in short supply. The battlefield is littered with soldiers, some who died on the hill blaming production, others who died storming the command, their cries of "it was a bad finish!" piercing the night, like the blade I'd use to skin the chickens back at Paw Paw's farm. Next week's episode and the upcoming PPV shine in the distance as beacons of hope in the darkness; I simply pray I can hold on until then. Please tell the children I am thinking of them.

  7. Allow me to clarify. I'm sure people conceptualize that OMG is big, obviously. But I don't think people really internalized the idea that he's 6'9". I used to think of Mr. Perfect as an average sized dude. Hennig was 6'3" and jaaaaaaaaacked.

  11. AEW was never to blame for this and it has absolutely zero to do with anyone there being "thin skinned." It has to do with the vendor they go through for their online content. They're overly aggressive with DMCA takedowns. I don't even know if it's a "they" to be honest, it may just be the vendor's algorithm that seeks this stuff out and issues takedowns when that content has been approved in the past. For example, this happened before with Maffew and TK basically had to personally revoke the takedown and approve of the content for Maffew and others on Twitter, like the one popular gif Twitter account. In fact, when Maffew showed last week that he had two strikes, it was basically another call out for TK to help him and then TK came through again. It's only because YouTube fucking sucks that Maffew's channel got taken down. There was no reason to keep the strikes on him when the owner of the fucking company twice had to say that it was a mistake and YouTube kept the strikes on Maffew anyway. Besides, YouTube has never been the main Botchamania channel. Have people really forgotten about all the accounts Maffew had to use in the past to get around WWE being dicks to him? No one remembers the actual videos for Botchamania being confined to a small rectangle on the bottom right side of the screen AND the video had to be mirrored so it could skirt around the stupid ass DMCA shit? The main go to for Botchamania always seemed like it was either Vimeo or Dailymotion. It was just that in recent months it was convenient for it to be on YouTube and without having the video play in a tiny window.

  12. Kris Statlander was pretty entertaining on the latest AEW pod. Tagging @J.T.because we discussed this...talking about her makeup, she said "some people told me they liked it because it reminded them of 'The V,' which was some show from the 70s, I think." Now I feel super old.

  14. This makes me think of that story during spring training about how Pujols lied about his age: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/former-mlb-exec-albert-pujols-age/1munpjji15ukb1w1jj1o05kjhc "One time Andrelton Simmons came in here. I said 'Andrelton, you play with Albert Pujols. Just between you and me how old is he really?' You know what he said? Albert Pujols 137 years old!"

  17. I feel like everyone remembers this whole stretch different than I do. The festival of friendship was great as was the list shtick... but Owens's title reign was bad and Jericho was involved in much of it. It was basically a less severe version of "Kurt and Austin are funny together but this isn't a good idea when they are the top two heels" and while I don't think I needed Goldberg to hold the belt at that time him winning it off of Owens was basically a mercy killing. Then again Goldberg's match at Mania was better than theirs (which wasn't anything more than fine, them in a top spot would have likely underwhelmed) so perhaps he did need to hold the belt.

  18. It's not just dumb, it's very poorly written and obviously not been proofread. Sample pull quote: I have about as much interest in seeing as what goes on in Brandi’s and Cody’s personal life as I do combing through my own shit. To support what @EVA said (though he may not agree with where I end up running with it): Quoting from or linking to Deadspin now is like quoting from or linking to the YouTube comments page. They, like the once-venerable Sports Illustrated, were bought out by stupid "vulture capitalists" and stripped down to their bare bones so the "name brand" could be used in stupid attempts to generate clicks by stupid people. There are dozens of excellent articles on the subject, including ones done by the New York Times and former Deadspin staff. It was a big story for a while. https://www.theringer.com/2019/10/31/20942249/deadspin-g-o-media-fired-quit-sports-illustrated-maven-sports-media That's just the first example I could find after a quick search. It's not even cherry-picking. Everyone knows the deal. As a result no "real" sportswriter would ever consider working for that site now. The first guy who they hired after the mass exodus got absolutely roasted for it, and ended up panic-quitting while explaining that he wasn't aware of the situation. The only people who "work" there now are those with both no talent and no shame. I don't disagree with the general sentiment that Cody's transparent desire to turn himself (and his gorgeous wife) into beloved mainstream celebrities is an odd fit when several of AEW's top heels (e.g. MJF and The Bucks) are doing parodies of spoiled entitled nouveau-riche pinheads and a lot of the other babyfaces are playing relatable working class tough guys (like Cody's dad)... (Although, I think it's to Cody's credit that, for example, he "let" someone else have the first AEW War Games match. If he was as bad as many people seem to think, surely he'd have been all "My dad invented that! I get to do it first!" or worse) But, as I said, quoting from Deadspin (or, sadly, SI) doesn't exactly make anyone's argument stronger. It's very much like quoting from the YouTube comments page, in that what you are actually saying is "There are also some worthless idiots who hold the same opinion."

  19. I did live tv five days a week for over 15 years and I would’ve found the best shot for that fall. I had to find the best way to shoot something with sometimes only minutes or seconds (not kidding) to figure it out and 9 times out of 10, I’d get it. AEW had time to get that right and they didn’t. They should’ve planned it out better. Don’t get me wrong, I love AEW. They’ve got me watching and loving weekly wrestling again, and I am thankful for that. They screwed up, though. They did a great number and I’m really glad they did. I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to understand that you can love something and still be critical of it. I see a weakness that they have (in my opinion, of course) and I just want them to fix it so they can be even better.

  20. Might pledge some money for this. The Mac & Me episode from the Netflix series is an all timer for me. My whole family still quotes it. Dig the idea of Jonah having his crew and Emily having hers, if that's where they're going. The only downside is that after we watch an episode it takes my youngest a week to stop riffing on regular movies we watch. He's funny but not that funny.

  21. I would have been really pissed off if that happened to me. If I'm paying $65 or more a month for all those channels then I would think Turner networks would be on there. But that's yet another example of how networks and carriers fight for money yet the real losers are the customers. At least the one good thing with streaming services is how quick it is to cancel that shit and find something that works. While inconvenient at least I'm not locked into a cable bill like I was in the past with Comcast.

  22. Macho documentary lost all credibility with me the second Bubba the shit sponge showed up on my TV. A guy who’s big claim to fame is getting thrown off radio for castrating a live pig on his show. A guy who also spent at least a decade burying Macho on his show with his buddy Hogan including a story they would bring up every time about Macho shitting himself at a gym supposedly.

  23. Well, again, it doesn't have anything to do with anyone at AEW being thin skinned. It has to do with the company they go through for monitoring unauthorized use of their content. Yeah, exactly, and YouTube never bothered removing the strikes. I think this is more of a case of YouTube saying enough is enough and you've tried skirting around our rules long enough. I personally don't like Sling. It has never worked well for me and it's not nearly as user friendly as YTTV. We also share our YTTV account with my mom and my wife's nephew. We ran into problems doing that with Sling and that's not even allowed with Hulu TV.

  24. All I can say about that is JEEZUS! Honestly though, I guess after working for con men all his life, Zandig was obviously most comfortable pledging fealty to one after his career was over. I'm about a half hour into the Pillman one so far and god damn it's pretty rough. Like hey man, +50 points for taking care of all those kids, -1000 for not just stepping out on your wife, but actually getting mistresses pregnant not once but twice. Holy fuck. And minus a million for teaming up with your new girl to torment your already troubled ex into suicide. It'll be fun, in the loosest sense of that word, to look at this season of DSotR and the Macho Man doc and rank who comes off the worst. I loved Melanie Pillman when she played Wendy on Breaking Bad. I want Meltzer's biceps when I'm 60.

  25. Is this a hot take? Bam Bam Bigelow's gear sucked and did him no favors. He was a legit big dude but that gear caused some freaky optical illusion that made him always look smaller than he was. I just watched him and Vader vs the Steiners and even though Wikipedia says Bigelow was only one inch shorter than Vader, he looked so much smaller than that and I attribute it to his gear. Vince bundled him up 95% covered in fabric so, with his build, he ended up looking like a fat little bumblebee, wide as he was tall. And he had boots so small that Roderick Strong would be like, "damn, bro, get some higher boots."

  27. Supergirl has at least still had some charm, and shined up their B characters in fun ways. I've not seen an episode yet in the series, that focused on the Danvers sisters as kids, that wasn't at least enjoyable. The obvious problem that show is running into, is not being able to use their star in the early going. Flash, outside of a couple of fun moments, has been a real drag. I'm tired of all the sad boi shit, and with Cisco leaving, it won't get any better. Legends was Legends. A hoot as expected. Crisis really feels like it was the end of the Arrowverse, even if not by design. We'll still have DC shows on CW, but the magic feels gone. COVID was like the other team going on a 12-0 run, and you can never really get back into the game.

  36. Dude, Bret Hart walked past us on the way back to the locker room in the late 80s and we were all freaked the fuck out at how big he was. In the 80s, anything under (kayfabed weight) 235 was a light heavyweight and if you were billed at 200 (rookie Jeff Jarrett in the Apter mags) you were a joke. I can't recall anyone anywhere being billed as under 200.

  38. I get that but I think Bigelow also suffered from being in WWF in his first run especially being the land of the giants. I mean look at this... Like he seems tiny compared to OMG but Gang's MASSIVE which most people didn't realize. Bigelow always had to stand next to Gang, Hogan or Andre and he's "dwarfed" at 6'4". It's just not fair which is why they tried to highlight he was so agile. As the wrestling size norm dropped, Bam Bam got more effective until he was one the bigger guys on any roster. WWF in 1987 was terrible for him. Gear wise, you'd think he'd change from the black and flames at some point in the next 15 years if he hated it, but that clearly wasn't the case.

  40. Funny you should mention that .. exactly what I was thinking. The crash pad was a bit more exposed than say the Shane/Big Show backlash bump but hardly a big deal. I’ll be the first to call out what is lame on these shows, but that’s not it. For all the theatrical spotty stuff or tubby guys in gimp masks .. that’s going to be the thing that ruins realism? Nope .. The commercial break issues are going to be inevitable when running a match of this length on the TV show not PPV. No getting around that - is what it is. I haven’t seen Caster’s entrance - what was his line? I’m really surprised he hasn’t had more viral engagement - the guy is great. He’s one who will really lift off once crowds are back.

That is going to exhibit A when judgement day comes for Vince. The trailer for next week's with Nick Gage sure did look good. Even has the footage of him after the TOD finals that he technically died from
