I think the main take away though should be that something big should be done with Ricky Starks, and soon.

Punk said his foot is 100%, but maybe he didn't know what this "new" 100% is really like. The implication being he needs to learn how to work with this permanent change, and he understands that better going into the rematch. Imagine a 45-year-old playing basketball for the first time in 20 years. You might hurt or strain yourself that first time, but next time you better know how to work around your "new normal."

I thought it was simple and effective.

And sorry for the double post, but I think Meltzer's off his rocker insisting they needed to show Ace and Punk going into a locked room. That's some WWE shit. Whether they accomplish it or not, AEW is meant to be the wrestling that doesn't insult your intelligence. When Ace said "this isn't what we talked about," that's enough for me to connect the dots, without being hit over the head with a visual reminder. To make a comics analogy, you don't have to show me what happens in the gutters -- that's what my brain is for.

Man how does Punk not drop a "Somebody's gonna die" after getting his fire relit by Ace like that. I know last week was a little deflating but I'm super intrigued by Punk/Mox II now.

That 4 way was outstanding. Feels like's a been a while since we've had a little indytastic sprint like that on AEW tv, they felt a little more common in the early days. The Casino Ladder match is usually fun and that really sold what it could be. Plus Claudio in there is gonna be dope too. I wonder what Punk/Mox II means for the speculation that My Jewish Friend may have been the Joker this year?

Hager's best match ever?

Something about AEW just feels right with Kenny back. That entrance was so petty and so awesome.

Serious question: does Meltzer even really "break" news anymore? All I ever see about him now is weird takes on shows and ratings ramblings.

Man that’s a good question. Has Dave gone down the Skip Bayless route? Like he has the skins of the wall of decades and decades of legit journalism and, if cornered, can demonstrate that by really and legit knowing his shit, but has discovered that playing a contentious talking head role pays better so he leans fully into it. See also: Smith, Steven A and Cornette, James E

Whereas Sapp feels more like the Woj or Ken Rosenthal dude

Took forever today as I'm off and it was the first day of pre-K for the 4 year old, BUT, I did mostly catch up. Now let's see if I remember anything.

  • Mox definitely didn't care in that opening promo. It wasn't at all a sort of promo meant to accomplish anything or sell anything, except for on the strength of the character and how engaging he is. That's always a little dangerous when you want a crowd to feel a certain way but it's quite effective if you just want a crowd to care.
  • Danielson vs Hager was good. I'll write it up on Monday. I like how nothing in the first half felt like a preordained series of spots/counters as much as Hager just hefting Danielson into things. Then the story of the finishing stretch was that neither guy could win with a hold. Good stuff.
  • I won't say that the Punk segment 100% worked for me. The Cabana thing also sort of weighs over head whenever you use Ace Steel and it's weird of them not to see it. I will say that I don't think he can necessarily turn heel yet, if only because a heel with a vulnerable leg feels kind of iffy structurally. Execution was good but getting there felt a bit labored. We'll see.
  • Coolest thing, by far, about the women's match, was that Storm had just had her wisdom teeth out and still had stitches and Britt knew that and was targeting the face. The lockjaw would have been a terrifying thought really. Honestly, Britt should always be working the jaw.
  • When I turned it on last night for a few minutes, the Wingmen were in the ring and Cass came out and boy was that odd. I'd like to see what a Cass/Page team could do maybe?
  • Nothing to say about the Pinnacle squash really.
  • 4-way was mainly fun for Dante hitting stuff and Rush being Rush. He's getting over more and more each week, which is no surprise. I thought Fenix took all of Dante's things really well but a lot of his own offense looked stupid.

For some reason, I listened to Meltzer talk about the Serena Williams competition and figured it would be 800,000.  Considering RAW and DYNAMITE did pretty well, maybe there isn't any overlap between viewers of wrestling and viewers of women's tennis.

I forgot to comment last night. I thought the show was pretty good as usual. Moxley is on another level with his promo's. I forgot they were in Chicago till all the Punk chants and then he ended up turning them around. That's pretty damn amazing.

Nice to see they signed W. Morrissey. That whole segment seemed like something they could have done for Dark or the next ROH PPV though.

Punk's promo was good and I really thought he was going to say hes going away for a while until Ace Steel came out and cut the greatest pick yourself up promo ever. Punk then gets fired up and its on. It makes me wonder why the hell if they were gonna do this did they just not save the unifications match for the ppv. They could have still done an injury angle and stuff and still got to where we are now. Ah well I'm psyched for the match. I'll give them that.

The women's match was pretty good. I'm pulling for Hayter to win the 4 way on sunday, but I'd be happy if Shida won the title as well.

The trios match in the main event was great again. I don't know if there really is jealousy or animosity between Osprey and Omega, but they sure work well together and I hope something is worked out for them to have a singles match sometime soon. Aussie Open also impressed me with some of the stuff they did in this match.  Overall a great match. Maybe not the great one like last week, but still pretty damn good.

Cant wait for All Out.

I saw an idea son boy posted on Reddit that sounded, I don’t know, not good or bad, just kind of wild…maybe Stoke is handing out cards not for his stable, but to sign people for ROH.

If we get Stoke Vs The Embassy, I don't care who Stoke signs. I just want it to happen immediately.

They've been around 3+ years now, we can start with the pillars for the next floor, and Yuta and Garcia would be top of that list.

Mox promo was good, Punk promo was good and the Ace promo was great! That being said this has been an extremely strange build to the PPV match.  Punk loses, has self-doubt and finally overcomes is a 2 month idea not a 2 week idea. The promo worked because Punk is great on the mic, but the idea of swinging from “maybe i should quit again” to fired up babyface in 5 minutes shouldn’t work.

Neither outcome seems like a good idea somehow? Punk winning does Mox no favors and Mox winning and Punk just moving on to something else is a dead end idea. The only way either outcome halfway works is if Mox wins and Punk actually does take some more time off to recover.

The only way it REALLY works is if Punk is able to pull off the heel turn in Chicago. If that happens I will take it all back AND I will demand an apology from The Natural for liking all these anti-Punk posts!
