piranesi
Bush was temporarily "in the office" of president when Reagen was having polyps removed in 1985. He was the first vice president to become acting president temporarily. That has to have something to do with this, right?

Brian Fowler
(For the record, H.W. Bush was the 5th V.P. or former V.P. to become President after Jan. 20th became Inauguration Day, so I'm claiming that as a win regardless if it is what you meant.) Ford replaced Nixon. A few others (including Nixon) became V.P. at some point without taking office directly from a sitting president.
Elsalvajeloco
Does Reagan's attempted assassination have anything to do with this? Nothing to do with Reagan anymore. 8 VPs became president to death. VPs can become president in OTHER WAYS!

Brian Fowler
Oh, I got it. Um... The initial question fails, because roughly half of them did not get sworn in on Jan. 20th. Prior to FDR in the 30's, Inauguration Day was March 4th.

Burgundy LaRue
Bush was the 5th VP to be elected President on his own accord while still VP? Something like that? EDIT: Never mind, someone got it. Fuck this shit, life is too short and just I lost two years fucking with this circle jerk. With no satisifaction, I might add. Elsalvajeloco
Oh, I got it. Um... The initial question fails, because roughly half of them did not get sworn in on Jan. 20th. Prior to FDR in the 30's, Inauguration Day was March 4th. Technically, answer was H.W. Bush but you had to figure out the other side. On January 20, 1989, president elect George H.W. Bush became the fourteenth vice president (the most recent) to become U.S. president. Of the 14 who ascended to the presidency: 8 upon the death of a president (Tyler, Fillmore, A. Johnson, Arthur, T. Roosevelt, Coolidge, Truman, L. Johnson) , 1 upon a president’s resignation (Ford), and 5 by seeking and winning the office on their own (Jefferson, J. Adams, Van Buren, Nixon, George H.W. Bush). The 20th Amendment states that the President must take the Oath of Office on January 20th. Hence, Obama being sworn in the SUNDAY (20th) before the Monday (21th) when the inauguration ceremony happened this year. Clues: "In place of" in latin is vice Second for second in command The first shall be last; A Family Affair = George H.W. Bush (father of George W. Bush) was the first (George) Bush in office, but the last vice president to become president. Ramon Wesley Case Produced By Steve = (Razor) Ramon Wesley (Blade) Cases Produced By Steve = Razorblade Suitcase was produced by Steve Albini. Razorblade Suitcase is an album by a band called Bush.
