sabremike
I am stunned the postmatch scrum is still up on YouTube. You would think that would be the first step taken for damage control.
peterien
It’s probably been said but- The Bucks and Kenny won the newest belts in the company (in a match that should’ve been placed as co-main) and weren’t part of the media scrum? Doesn’t make sense to me. EDIT; the only positive for Tony out of this is that on a weekend that WWE put on a great blockbuster of a show, everyone is talking AEW. Because no one is acknowledging it on TV. Even Hangman completely no sold Punk calling him a coward and pretended like it never happened. Also, it marvelously undercut MJF when he just made a huge comeback and laid down a challenge to MJF for the title. It is a giant work.
A_K
3 hours ago, Andrew POE! said: I read the results and saw the comments from the post-PPV scrum. Fuck CM Punk. Fuck MJF. MJF proves that once again he is low effort, low ability and does this stupid idiotic way to 'win' the Casino ladder match for a title shot (because God forbid he actually fucking wrestle). He pisses off the fans and sets the tone for the entire show. Then he comes out at the end and apparently this is the only way he would come back - if Tony Khan really cared about the fans as he said in the voicemail, he would have MJF sit at home until his contract was up. Why? Because AEW moved on without MJF and he's not as indispensable as he thinks he is. Then CM Punk shows himself to be a Diva and talks about being a 'professional' while shitting on Kenny Omega/Young Bucks/Hangman Page. He got the AEW World title hotshotted within a week and it's now worthless. This is what it looks like when CM Punk gets his way. So at some point we'll see MJF and Punk AGAIN so MJF can do his low effort 'wrestling' and Punk can drag another great match out of him. I wish a giant meteorite would hit both in the parking lot, but we don't get what we want in this life. The work is working. Kudos, Tony.

A_K
"The fact that I have to sit up here because we have irresponsible people who call themselves EVPs and couldn't fucking manage a Target and they spread lies and bullshit and put it into the media". The idea that anyone would think this is not a work. They were even playing up the MJF voicemail clip as if it was real. Punk looked like he could barely contain his laughter while he was talking Edited September 5, 2022 by A_K 2
John E. Dynamite
Every person online saying things to the effect of "this is giving me late-stage WCW vibes" is, once again, proving that nobody watched late-stage WCW. hammerva
Maybe it has been mentioned about 2 or 3 pages ago but completely lost in the Punk/Cabana/Page stuff was Toni Storm basically questioning Thunder Rosa "injury" with a rather suspicious "OK". I thought Toni and Thunder were actually friends but based on this scrum maybe that doesn't mean anything. At this point Tony Khan wishes that Thunder Rosa was the only backstage mess There is a clip on Twitter during the Swerve and Keith scrum that clearly shows a bunch of security running. Now maybe there was something in the building. Or maybe that is when the shit REALLY hit the fan Edited September 5, 2022 by hammerva

I just got finished watching the media scrum and just wow. Im not nearly as down on this PPV as some others seem to be. Kingston/Ishii(Zero Hour or not) is definitely in my favorite matches of the year. I loved the Hangman/DO v Elite match, Athena v Jade was pretty goddamn good, the 4 way Woman's match was awesome(my daughter was sad Shida didn't win, but I told her from the jump i was Team Storm) and while I dislike Punk, the whole MJF/Punk angle was awesome. Then Punk has a temper tantrum and that's all people will be talking about. I admit I was so happy when he came back, but it really is starting to feel like the Raylan Givens quote "If you wake up and see one asshole, you saw an asshole. However if you wake up and see assholes all day, maybe you're the asshole"

A_K
Geez, the Punk heel turn is going to be dynamite. They might actually be able to re-build the fumbled Page here, too, as Rock chasing cowardly old man Austin. MJF will be sided with Punk in a program, not against him. Book it. hammerva
It is also very interesting that 2 days the biggest news from the WWE media scrum besides it being the first in ages was how reporters basically acting like fucking marks as they were "acknowledging" Roman Reigns. Now we have an AEW scrum being an absolute shit show because of reporters actually act like reporters albeit the worst kind of it Edited September 5, 2022 by hammerva

For Great Justice
Anyway the Rise and Fall of AEW DVD should be bookended by the All Out 2020 and All Out 2022 pressers. From free ice cream and Punk and TK giggling like schoolchildren at each other to what we saw last night. I thought this was the worst AEW PPV yet. We’re at the part of gangster movie where the lead gets reclusive, paranoid as fuck and does all the coke in the world before it all comes crashing down a few scenes later Edited September 5, 2022 by For Great Justice 2

No idea on the work or shoot part of this because Punk seems genuinely pissed, but I would like to point out that Wardlow’s push went sideways partially because of the timing of the MJF “fire me” story. Not the first time they have set someone up to fail to get a worked shoot thing over

hammerva
Well I guess I say "worse of it" because it isn't really based on actual facts but more of a someone said something to someone about someone kind of thing. I mean we still don't really know if Punk was the reason why Cabana is off to Ring of Honor wasteland although it wouldn't surprise me one bit. Listen I would much rather have an AEW like scrum then whatever that version in the WWE was supposed to be
Jrag
Caught parts of the show in between fantasy football drafts. Still have to go back and watch the tag titles and Danielson/Jericho among other things, but really dug Eddie/Ishii, the goofy ladder match angle and the trios title match. Good to have Kenny back. Main event was solid, but they have a better match in them. Punk selling the elbow for 20 minutes after his own dive was an interesting choice. I was hooked the whole way and really had no idea who was going to win which is a rarity for this company. Have seen bits and pieces but I guess I have to go back and watch the scrum in full huh
