True, good point. I do feel like Starks is a lot more humble / hasn't been handed as much as MJF has tho. So he is more appreciative / hard working. Has a better head on his shoulders. Might not be as much of a risk to cause problems if put in this spot, even with his friendship to Cody. He also doesn't have Fox & USA people bugging the other company to hire him, putting crazy thoughts in his head lol.

Starks was on a short list of guys to get hired for nXt before regal was told of the “direction change.” I would hope he understands what his size would mean in terms of his ceiling in wwe….

Starks is maybe the one younger guy who I could see developing both in ring and on the stick into a star. Others have pretty big flaws. Guys like Garcia and HOOK are years away from main evening.

To me, Starks easily has a higher all around ceiling than MJF. I feel like the sky is the limit for Starks were he to be featured more, but I fear that he will be lured to the dark side by Cody.

The buzzy term ‘generational talent’ applies to ppl like Danielson who could get over and succeed no matter what horseshit he was fed. Max Friedman has hardly had to overcome the odds in his overly protected push. Far too early to say what his legacy will look like. Shane Douglas is an apt comparison, but no way does his promo output meet that of Franchise 95-96.

If people want to mention a Nature Boy to compare MJF with, how about Buddy Landell. Buddy was damn good in the ring when he wanted to be and could talk, but also derailed his career on multiple occasions due to idiotic decision making. While I do not believe that MJF has the same out of the ring demons, this current behavior feels like Landell's move of sabotaging his JCP run in late '85/early '86.

c) relegate him to Dark and the occasional Rampage match. make him wrestle regularly but little/no mic time.

I think that's the rub, you can't "make" a person wrestle if they don't want to, and honestly you don't want a wrestler in the ring if their heart/brain isn't into it as that is how injuries happen. So it would have to be one of the other two options if MJF is done with AEW. Hypothetically, of course.

MJF is more Piper than Flair. Less of an over the top swag and more utterly obnoxious.

Back in my day we did cocaine and played dominoes instead of energy drinks and video games.

Look, pal, when people say "Greg Valentine," they usually don't mean 1991 babyface Greg Valentine or 1997 WCW SN enhancement talent Greg Valentine.

Sorry, but I would definitely also mean the WCW SN enhancement talent Greg Valentine who came out to the Hollywood Blondes theme, would murder jobbers with a wind-up elbowdrop to the top of the skull, took Lex Luger to the limit and took a super chokeslam from the Giant off the top rope.

Johnny Manziel used to wear the same scarf MJF wears, and was gambling in a casino in Vegas (wearing a stupid fake moustache) the night before a Browns game.

Yeah, Buddy’s the better comparison. Curious what promos MJF has cut that r anywhere near as fun as anything from the prime Flair catalogue.  I dug the shooty-boo-hoo Punk feud promo but that’s the antithesis of a Flair promo. Flair was fun, MJF is sometimes - flimsy comparison.

Okay, I take back my earlier comment. Let's include that era of Greg Valentine too. That sounds awesome.

I mean, 1991 babyface Greg Valentine was pretty awesome too:

But it's still more DVDVR awesome than random wrestling fan off the street awesome, so I was putting in some level of distinction there for the guy whose name sort of gives him away and that didn't seem to want to do the legwork. I'm sure as a 9-10 year old in 91-92 I didn't have a lot of use for Valentine either, but then I grew up.

"Like" isn't strong enough for Greg Valentine vs. The Berzerker, but it's all the board will let me give.

When someone compared him to Pillman a few pages back, my first thought was “better pull off the highway if you think MJF is behind you in traffic.”

Just remembered Tony's going to have a post-show media availability. The real main event.

Hahaha I cannot fucking wait. He's been snappy before at people asking him very innocuous questions before. Although, who is going to ask difficult questions?

If he doesn’t show up who would a replacement the crowd wouldn’t shit on? The name that popped into my mind but he’s signed to MLW is Jacob Fatu. Ten minute house fight with Wardlow going over would be bonkers.
