Yanks Nestor Cortes had an immaculate inning and struck out 12 through 5 innings today

Of course since it is April (and because he has already thrown 88 pitches) - he was taken out of the game

He apparently is the first Yankees pitcher ever to have 12 or more Ks in 5 innings or fewer

Which means he'll be added to thousands of fantasy baseball teams tomorrow

Tanner Houck has revealed he's unvaccinated and will be unable to make his scheduled start when the Red Sox play in Toronto.

Per Alex Cora - it is more than just Houck though he declined to say who the other players were.

We will know the full list when they get replacements

Along with this - Aaron Boone keeps insisting that the doesn't anticipate any issues when the Yanks go to Toronto in a couple of weeks so either he is a bad liar or an idiot

And Oakland is officially the first team with a COVID outbreak this year as they juts placed 6 folks on the COVID IL (And that's not counting Stephen Piscotty who went on the last week)

It should be noted that two of the players are AJ Puk and Kirby Snead - who we learned last week are unvaccinated because they couldn't play in Toronto

guessing that unvaccinated guys coming off of a Covid case aren't gonna have special powers allowing them into Canada?

think that the most obvious salami-slicing method if you're doing sports talk radio is that the unvaccinated guys are 'selfish' and 'putting themselves above their team'. Just to see how many people all-in on antivax stuff can fight on their backheel in response to that.

Jake Arrieta has announced his retirement

5-14 with a 7.39 ERA last year, including a 10.95 to end the year with San Diego, kinda did the announcing for him already.

But, man, he was amazing in 2015.

I almost accused Jed Lowrie of being an antivaxxer until I realized I was thinking of Eric Sogard.

Although when it comes to not missing checks, unvaccinated players whose teams make one trip into Toronto get paid if they get COVID just before the Toronto trip, right? and then they miss more games than they would have missed otherwise, but you gotta figure they weren't great on cost/benefit analysis anyways.

That asshole stealing money from a team dumb enough to give it to him is just one of the reasons I will never forgive Rob Manfred and the MLBPA for coming to terms and ending the lockout.

Tommy Pham is the baseball equivalent to a deathmatch wrestler. In several ways.

Just watched the slide Pham is referring to - it was dirty as heck.  Voit just clubbed Stephenson in the head in a completely unnecessary fashion.  Of course, all the Youtube comments are "THAT'S BASEBALL!"  "TOTALLY CLEAN!" and so on.  No, no, it's not.

took an extra couple years, but i finally get to watch the Rays play @ Wrigley Field! posted up right behind the Rays dugout.

hell of a day otherwise tho!

post-game edit:  rained the whole time. played 5 1/2 innings anyway. "rain delay" that nobody believed would be temporary. Rays win 8-2. eat it, Cubs fans!

It would have been better if could just knock him down like the used too.

"... as the Tigers defeated the Angels 8-3" is 100% accurate and makes me laugh every time

It is always breathless Ohtani hype and then buried in like the 8th paragraph "LAA lost"

Miguel Cabrera is up to 2999 career hits

The Tigers next 4 games are at home should theoretically he should do it at home but it is also Miggy so he could easily throw out his back and not play for 3 months

Yeah...The Cubs may be the absolute worst when it comes to delaying or postponing games. Glad you had fun though and that's a good section.

He's such a shell of his former self, he makes Albert Pujols look like he's still a major superstar.  Cabrera has absolutely zero power anymore - he hasn't slugged even .450 since 2016 - and he NEVER pulls the ball.  He's also pulling off that rare feat of having an OBP higher than his SLG this year (.390 vs .389).  Kudos to him for hitting .333 with a 137 OPS+ but it's a mirage.
