AEW - MAR 2022

I would assume women on the Indies get paid more for intergender matches than they would for matches working other women. If so, I imagine that has quite a bit to do with why they push for them.

The format has been a battle royal where the two finalists have a singles match for the ring the next week. Gotta assume MJF makes it through the BR this year because whoever takes it off him you'll probably want to see get the win straight-up.

Your three:

  • 2019: MJF over Hangman Page
  • 2020: MJF over Orange Cassidy
  • 2021: MJF over Dante Martin

Starks or Hobbs screwed Dante out of a win in 2021, correct? Have they all been cheap wins?

You say that like it's a bad thing

Whatever floats your boat, but based on just cursory knowledge of what we probably all know about traumatic brain injuries, you would think protecting yourself would be a priority. That could vastly improve your quality of life after wrestling.

2021: Starks puts MJF's foot on the rope to break up a pin

2020: Miro takes out OC while the ref is looking elsewhere

2019: Wardlow puts MJF's foot on the rope to break up a pin, takes out Hangman while the ref is looking elsewhere

Where does Lord Regal debuting and making Mox and Danielson shake hands rank with the greatest moments in AEW history?  Feels up there with the likes of: the incredible Moxley debut,  the Cole/Danielson All Out debuts, Kingston's debut, those opening moments of Danielson-Omega Grandslam, the Cody pre-title promo, Cody/Inner Circle concession stand brawl angle, Dark Order/Page-Inner Cirlce Six Man/Rowan debut from the Brodie Lee tribute, Bloody Penta and his daughter celebrating the title win, Punk-MJF angle from last week, the First Dance, etc. etc. etc. etc.

I'm not sure where it would rank, but I loved it.  I loved that he just came out.  No music, no promo beforehand, just a pissed off Regal marching to the ring.  Made it feel more spontaneous.  Also, just by his demeanor in that short segment, he put across the idea that this isn't going to be the joking, silly-faces Regal you've seen in the past.

I think this pairing of Mox and Danielson has so much potential.  It's almost like an invasion angle, but they guys already work there.  I just love the idea of two dudes realizing that they're the baddest fuckers in the promotion, so instead of fighting, why don't we just wreck shit together?  You have the option of adding some more guys later (Miro? Claudio? Garcia?) and having all kinds of cool possibilities where other AEW guys have to set aside differences or team up to stop them.

Exactly.  And the tough love.  And finally signaling to those two brutal bad asses to shut their mouths and shake hands.  It was so beautiful I nearly cried from the happiness.

whatever happened to Megan Bane?  She was on dark a month back or so and was totally awesome, and then nothing?  Thought she was a can't miss blue chipper.

Torn ACL mid Feb. Out 9 months. Real bummer.

Went forehead-to-forehead yelling at Mox and got Mox's blood on his own head, added another level of toughness.

Well, to be fair, he is the dirty daddy.

Anyway, I thought the rise of intergender wrestling had more to do with indy promoters cynically thinking paying two women (or god forbid, four women for a tag) was a non-drawing waste of money, while paying one woman and having her wrestle a guy was a draw for various reasons already discussed here.

maybe the promoters are jealous of how much the ladies are making at their merch table.  I was set up next to Renee Michelle every time she was booked with us and every time she had a line bigger than every guy including Shane Douglas, Buff Bagwell, and Brutus Beefcake.

I mean that makes a ton of sense. My only counter was going to be that AIW wasn't that heavy into intergender but then I realized they had a clip of Cedric Alexander hitting the Lumbar Check on Candice Larae that went viral. I had always though that was because it looked so fucking cool. But the more I think about it, maybe it got mixed up in the India porn ban intergender loophole deal and that juiced it's numbers. Certainly possible.

Beyond still does them now. So even if that factored into their initial reasoning, they continue to do them because it's what their performers want & what their fans want.

Also @Stefanie the Human I was not aware of the backstory of Lance possibly being disingenuous with all that. Taking that POV in good faith I would stick by how I answered it. Just take Lance specifically out of the equation.

AIW never got the credit they should have for being one of the first big Indy promotions to run all female shows.  Their Girls Night Out shows were solid at the time and when you look back at the talent it's even more impressive now.

I can't think of anything that screams small dick energy more than being jealous of how long a female performer's line is. (Referring 100% to any promoter thinking that way, not insinuating that's your thoughts on it). Attractive women are what makes the world go round. The bar & night club industry is tailored to drawing the women in, because where the women are the men will show up. Of coarse female performers are going to draw more attention than the male ones. Just like female actresses, female adult performers, and women in the real world. If that's something a promoter has a jealousy towards then they should step away from promoting.

They moved William Regal from the Coaches section of the roster page, to the Wrestlers section. How interesting.

Man, what a week for AEW. I thought about bumping the navel gazing thread to post this, and hope I don’t sound too much like a fanboy, but if there’s any chance CoachTK is reading this I just want to sincerely say thank you. I get all the counter-arguments about growing the audience or whatever else, but I’m not sure I’ve had this experience where a big budget entertainment medium feels like it was written very specifically for me, for us - this relatively narrow sliver of DVDVR and similar fans of this already-niche entertainment product. It’s just so, so awesome to experience. Not taking it for granted.
