2022 NFL OFFSEASON

RIPPA

The "How to survive a nuclear war" Patrick Allen narration from "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood comes to mind for sports media people about to unleash takes about the Dolphins hire in the context of other things going on with the Dolphins right now.

Scab/Zombie Deadspin got out ahead of that by calling McDaniel a "white guy" last week. It took awhile for someone to actually read Deadspin and notice that though.

It's all a distraction from the real point of this hire, which is that the Dolphins hired a guy who looks like the doofy looking male lead in a porno to be their head coach.

On one hand, I think people sometimes get too worked up over a coach that failed once getting a second shot. It can work out fine, there might be other reasons they didn't succeed, etc.

But Smith had a mediocre run in Chicago, flopped in Tampa, and didn't impress at Illinois... Fourth shot seems excessive.

Lovie was actually better in Chicago than I remember - 10+ wins four times, including 13-3 the year they went to the Super Bowl.

But, yeah, he was terrible in Tampa and at Illinois.

He's not exactly the guy I'd be seeking out but...

lololololol

Ok, to know Lovie Smith in Chicago, you really need to look beyond the record he had there. Lovie was freaking infuriating to watch as a HC after year 1. That extended from his preseason press conferences from Bourbonnais, to his post game pressers where he'd talk about NFL seasons in terms of quarters and how the team performed from quarter to quarter, to his coaching and clock management, to throwing nearly every DC or OC under the bus until it was his own head on the chopping block. Maybe I'm more sour on Lovie than others, but I think those Bears teams largely succeeded in spite of their coaching.

Also, replacement OC and DC choices were abysmal and Lovie deciding he would call plays on defense didn't go well at all.

Schefter says the Texans have indeed hired Lovie

It really does come across as they knew they couldn't hire McCown, wanted to hire Flores but then he sued and they were all "Fuck..."

Groundhog Day for the Texans. 6 more years of mediocrity for you.

EDIT: Meanwhile, I look forward to the Colts tripping over themselves trying to win a division that shouldn't be that hard to win.

I know no one watches or cares about the pro bowl but Mac Jones being in it is such a farce. Its because of injuries of course, but still, just let the punter throw some passes or something instead of letting him in it.

I thought he was absolutely adorable living his best life out there.  He did also win the "threading the needle" skills event, showing that he truly belonged ?

Did Brady retire just to get out of the Pro Bowl?
