2022 NFL Draft (April 28-30)

BTW - the entire Walker is the new #1 narrative is 100% being driven by Vegas.

PointsBet changed their line over the weekend and everyone followed.

Quote

The Jacksonville Jaguars own the No. 1 overall pick. The trading team at sportsbook PointsBet, where Walker also moved past Hutchinson over the weekend, say they believe that Jacksonville general manager Trent Baalke is "fully on Walker."

"Ultimately, at the end of the day, Baalke gets the final call, which is why Walker is currently the overall favorite go No. 1," a PointsBet spokesman told ESPN on Monday.

So as credible as all the "anonymous GM and anonymous Scout" stories this time of year. But it is Vegas and that can dictate money how they want like the Stock Market can

That none of the top QB's played for big name schools like Alabama or Ohio State is the main reason the QB class is perceived as low. Had Pickett transferred to Notre Dame and put up the same numbers he'd would have been the consensus #1 pick and would have won the Heisman, pretty much the same if Ridder had done what he had done at Ohio State instead of Cincy.

Well...If Ridder had been at Ohio State, he’s not getting drafted at all right now, because he’d never have started a game over Haskins, Fields, or Stroud.

Yeah, we would have never heard of Joe burrow if he would have stayed at Ohio State.

And, though I think Cincinnati was quite good last year, at Ohio State he would've played a lot tougher competition, so if he put up the same numbers, it would have been a lot more impressive.

While I realize it is literally their job, that is one area I do feel a little bit for scouts. Trying to figure out if an offensive player looked great in college because they are in fact great, or they looked great because because they were on an amazing team with NFL-caliber players all around them. Then on the flipside, a player that looked really good on his team but the team played mostly second tier teams and just figuring out if they would have been great in any situation or just looked great because they put up 500 yards against New Hampshire. Then there is Josh Allen (who was compared to Kyle Boller at the time), who looked raw and iffy, played for an iffy team, played shitty opponents, turned out he's pretty damn great anyway. Its like the lottery.

Course, that's why there are so many misses which is just part of the 'fun' as a fan, lord knows the Bills have had plenty, its almost more luck than skill. That's why I'm generally a fan of trading down to get more picks, more chances to get lucky. Belichick cemented his place in the Hall of Fame for one great lucky pick, few talked about all the bad picks NE made over the years until recently, but sometimes one is all you need.

All of this, plus Josh is going to get a lot of people fired in the next few years as people try to replicate his success. He's a unicorn.

Nobody is going to get fired for drafting a 6'4" 240 lb. dude with a laser rocket arm who runs a 4.63 40.  As unprecedented as Josh Allen is, drafting Josh Allen is kind of what football scouting is about.  You can teach all types of shit, you can't teach his size, speed, and arm strength.

This is why the Rams operate the way they do. Why take a chance using my first on an unknown quantity when I can get someone like Stafford or Ramsey where I know exactly what I'm getting?

Tangentially draft related, but Laremy Tunsil is going to mint an NFT for the infamous bong video which caused him to fall in the draft a few years ago.

He will use the proceeds for various marijuana legalization/justice related causes.

The biggest questions are if there will be a run on QBs, most of whom aren't considered true first round talents, and/or if there will be 8-10 WRs picked in the first round (and if Green Bay will finally take one).

They really should have Kiper on some kind of FBI watch list:

So many questions! Where do you buy a Pumpkin Pie in April? I don't think I've ever seen one in a bakery or grocery store this time of year. Did Kiper recycle an old pic from the fall? Why fat free Reddi Whip when you're eating 1/4th of a pie? Also, a big old glass of most likely whole milk a few hours before speaking all day seems like a really bad idea.

Hey! The Giants are trying to trade their #7 pick! Call Them!

Carolina might be trying to trade 6 too. Not a very intriguing draft from a team fandom standpoint given the Dolphins only have 4 picks.

I like that everyone seems to be confused by the top 3 in general.
