1) It’s only sexualizing a cartoon to someone who primarily accounts for gay people as being sexual deviants.

2) Velma being a lesbian was a Gen X edgelord public domain joke that snowballed.

3) I’m reasonably sure that Velma was seeing women in Mystery Incorporated?

You mean Peppermint Patty and Marcie weren't your #1s?

See,  this is why we have a draft. I feel like Peppermint Patty and Marcie are like Stockton and Malone. Both are great players,  but they are much more valuable as a tandem than they are individually. Velma on the other hand is a 5 tool player who is nothing but positives no matter who she's playing with. You need her to play with a couple of idiots like Shaggy and Scooby-Doo,  she'll do all the thinking. If you need her to run off screens while Fred and Daphne play their two person game,  she can do that too. You need her to be a background player when the Harlem Globetrotters come to play... she can handle that too.

And no, the shell doesn't need to stay together. A corn tortilla from a bag of 50 of em thrown onto a griddle or plancha to warm up just enough is good enough. Part of the fun is trying to get the taco filling into your mouth before it falls apart and even if it does fall apart, you have finger food for yourself.

Peeeko day gallow. Christ. The fuck are they doing?

This upsets me more than it should. And yes, Sue and Mel would never and Sue and Mel forever.

Tack-O.

Aren't we basing Velma's sexuality on a superficial stereotype because she's kinda plain looking and not all lipstick and nail polish like Daphne is?

Shouldn't it matter less that she might be lesbian and matter more that she's the smart one that does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to solving the mysteries?

Sometimes, they would try and tease Velma/Shaggy as a couple but I don't think it was that as pronounced as the Fred/Daphne.

Of course, in at least one of Scooby-Doo knock off porn parodies, you get Fred/Daphne, Velma/Shaggy, Velma/Daphne and then a group four way at the end.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm basing my opinion on the fact that if people want to be mad about the fact that a cartoon character can be a lesbian, I'd like to keep them as mad as possible.  If this is what you want to be in your feelings about, I hope that Mickey Mouse starts fucking Goofy.  Seriously, if one person is happier to have a character that represents them in a positive light, anyone who is mad about it can fuck all the way off.

Oh, I totally understand and support people wanting to see representations of themselves in the television shows and movies that they watch.  My issue with Velma being outed is that her physical appearance lends itself to stereotypical assumptions about her sexuality.  Velma is the DUFF of Mystery Inc ladies so now she is also queer?  That's pretty weak.  I'd have been more impressed if they'd announced that Fred was gay and that Daphne has been his beard all this time.

Triple post! Holy Paul! But I'm totally getting myself a proper burrito after therapy today.

El Camino Real #3(CR 6 in Elkhart, next to the Dollar Tree, across from Wally World) does a chorizo, egg burrito(called Burrito Durango) that is awesome.

I wasn't aware of the Dobie Gillis connection* because it wasn't one of those shows to hit syndication in my area. Makes perfect sense though. I presume Velma was strictly intended to be Daphne's opposite and it morphed from kid's saying that she was weird to she's a lesbian and the gay community embraced it because why not? She's the brains of the outfit.

And I'm assuming you are aware that the Fred thing is a thing. It just doesn't have the legs that the Velma theory....now fact, I guess...has had all of these years.

*Though I guess I could have just read it on Wikipedia.

Friggin Hanna-Barbera ripped off everything! I watched Dobie Gillis occasionally on Nick at Night, even as a tween it was pretty obvious Shelia Kuehl who played Zelda was a lesbian, totally gave off the same vibes as Nancy Kulp(Miss Jane Hathaway) on the Beverly Hillbillies.

I'm asking this as someone who has enjoyed all the recent Velma cosplay that has been around the internet the last few years.  She's always been a lesbian, right? I've never in my life watched Scooby-Doo and thought that Velma was interested in men. Don't get me wrong,  as a kid,  I didn't assume she was a lesbian,  but as I got older she would have been my #1 pick in the lesbian cartoon draft. I want you to imagine what a lesbian aunt looks like,  I bet you the picture in your mind and Velma have some similarities. Ain't shit changed in my mind,  get out here and live your best cartoon life,  Velma.

I never really thought about it one way or the other until Mystery Incorporated when it was obvious she and Marcie had a thing for each other even if they never went all the way.

She was seeing Shaggy in Mystery Incorporated but eventually they moved on from each other and as mentioned before she and Marcie seemed to have something going on.

Mila Kunis confirmed to Vanity Fair that she lied about her age to get her role on That 70s Show and was only 14 when she auditioned. However, before filming even began (or Kunis officially signing the contract) everyone knew she was 14

Quote

“However, by the time I went to what was then a producer’s network call…you have to sign a contract before you get the job and in my contract I had to put an asterisk for ‘studio teacher,'” she continued. “They were like, ‘What do you mean?’ And I was like, ‘Oh P.S., I’m 14.’ But at that point if you talk to the creators, they were like, ‘We loved you at that point so what did we care?'”

So yes, Kunis did lie about her age to get her foot in the door to audition, but co-creators Bonnie and Terry Turner were well aware she was a 14-year-old by the time the show started filming.

George Jones did more drugs and got up to crazier shit than most of us could even imagine so this has the potential to be amazing.

I'm right in the middle of the 2nd season of the Cocaine & Rhinestones podcast. Most of the season is devoted to George Jones. Will be interesting to see how much of that stuff turns up in this show. This looks as well cast as it could possibly be.
