X may be the craziest fucking movie I have seen in a long time.  Ti West has done it again.

Is it social criticism?  An exploitation movie?  A horror film?  Your guess is as good as mine.

If you go see it , you will want to stay for all of the credits.

And it is official.  Jenna Ortega is trying to put as much distance from her Disney Channel career as possible.

HP Lovecraft was a racist bastard, but damn if his stories didn't scare the shit out of me.  I have always been fascinated and terrified by end of the world stories.  Even the scene in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy where the pub patrons are all on the floor with paper bags over their heads freaks me out a little and that's supposed to be humorous.  I guess it is the Cold War kid in me that still fears the doom that you are powerless to stop.  That's what makes good cosmic horror so scary.

Yep. This was the third one of the Teenage series:

I'll third the love for Silver Bullet. Even Roger Ebert liked the film, incidentally. Rambaldi's design for the werewolf wasn't the best but that dream sequence in the church was baller. And I remember that Highway to Heaven commercial coming on the TV when I was a kid too! Never got to see the episode so that video is a treat.

Silver Bullet deserves more love on the werewolf movie front.

Werewolf: the Series also needs more love.  Fucking Chuck Connors once again steps up to deliver the horror goodness just like he did in Tourist Trap.

The scenes where BBEG Janos Skozeny transforms and blood pours out of his eye socket (Skorzeny wore an eye patch and was missing his left eye) scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

I always wondered why they didn't use that bit with the one-eyed priest in Silver Bullet.

Horror television in the 80's and 90's fucking ruled.

I am dumb because I totally omitted The Company of Wolves from my good werewolf movie list, even though technically it is a gothic horror coming of age story using Little Red Riding Hood as its central theme.

I just watched The Company of Wolves for the first time in decades. Those transformations are fantastic, and any movie that has a werewolf karate chop Angela Landsbury’s head off gets my full endorsement.

That one is a serious blind spot in my viewing. It's been on TV a handful of times but I never recorded it.

This conversation made me dig this up since I found it but never watched. It has a werewolf, a mummy, a vampire, and even aliens (in the Plan 9/Godzilla sense) so basically if you were a Famous Monsters kid in the '70s you would have done a backflip.

How many times have I seen Xtro and never realized that there was an alternate ending that made way more sense than the Rachel Is Killed By An Alien Egg ending.

Someone made a spiritual sequel to the Grudge films (remember the Curse was released out into the world when the house that the Saeki family haunted had been burned down under the belief that it would stop the Curse) and it perfectly encapsulates what I hate about creepy laundromats and why I never wash clothes at night.

As much as you tell yourself you would leave at the first sign of weirdness, the most human part of you says, "There's now way I am just leaving my geek t-shirts behind."  You are held hostage by how much time it takes for your clothes to dry and the very real and sentimental attachment you have to some pieces of your wardrobe.

True enough.  Strange timing for this trailer now that X is already in theaters and has the teaser for Men attached to it.

I don't plan on going to see X again solely to find out if the extended trailer will now run with the previews.

Anyone see "X" yet? May go this weekend.

I went last Sunday.  The "it's not a movie for everyone" argument definitely holds.  I enjoyed it because I am all about gonzo horror anyway

I didn't stay through the credits but pretty much, all of them. It's also another Texas Chainsaw ripoff, very carefully and purposefully curated down to certain shots.

Spoiler

This deserves specific acknowledgement for the old vs. young subtext in TCM which is something that most Chainsaw ripoffs/sequels don't really point an arrow at. These folks said "well it hasn't been puffed up enough recently, lets run with it".

It was also nice seeing a film in an ENTIRELY EMPTY theater which almost never happens -- but also made me feel like someone walking in wearing a raincoat (it was actually raining too so that's another level of hilarity).

For something that was supposed to gonzo it actually was pretty restrained. Unless you consider unattractive people stripping to be gonzo.

Considering that last point

Spoiler

Jesus, did whoever that Disney star was have to look like she was 16 at best? I know they were trying to nail the timeline with the casting (because burgeoning porn didn't, far as I know, care about anyone looking mature) but that was pretty gross.

EDIT: Oh god, and the lead dude was the best Matthew McConaughey they could reasonably get after he probably said "yeah I've already done Killer Joe I'm passing on this one".
