Playing Goldeneye against your friends isn't going to hold up, but the main game still has countless features that haven't really been seen since.

The Mario Kart tracks are wave 3 of 6 announced back in March so the only outrage should be that they showed only two of the four new tracks.

Playing Goldeneye in 2022 scares me a bit. My freshmen year of college (2002/2003, I am old), one of my hallmates brought his N64 and we used to play it. But the bulk of the fun was how glitchy it was, and it was just an amusing way to pass the time while eating pizza and making fun of each other. I think its another game people will play once, say OH GOD WHAT IS THIS and that'll be that.

I am all for nostalgic playing of games, I do it all the time, I just find the nostalgia usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes until we want to go back to something modern. There are exceptions of course, games so good they stand the test of time/graphical upgrades, but I don't think Goldeneye will be one of those exceptions.

The last time I played Goldeneye was before Halo 2 even came out so my friends and I are in that prime period of bringing our TVs and Xboxes to a friend's house to play 8+ player Halo games. Then one night there were just 4 of us so we thought we'd give Goldeneye a try.

It was fucking terrible. And yet only a few years earlier when it came out when I was in my junior or senior year of high school, it was the shit. Things change fast.

Shout out to Timesplitters for being a proper newer version of Goldeneye, even better than Perfect Dark.

So, that Yakuza game they showed... I haven't played any of them besides 0 because honestly they're a fuckin' slog to get through and feel very bland because it's just fight, run here, do this, fight, repeat. But that one they showed.. looks fun. Then they showed Rise of the Ronin and I forgot all about that it. Take my money.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge looks like a fun PSVR2 title.

Synduality isn't something I'll buy day one, but when it goes on sale, I'm interested. Same thing with Stellar Blade/Project EVE.

I guess there was a story trailer for something called God of War: Ragnarok too. And a themed DualSense controller.

My college (99-00 especially, Freshman year) gaming experience along those lines were Syphon Filter 2 and Unreal Tournament. I went the Playstation route as a high schooler, following Final Fantasy over there, and never really had the N64 experience. That means never playing OOT/Majora's Mask either even though I've played pretty much every other Zelda game except for Skyward Sword. My main Syphon Filter 2 memory was chasing one squirrelly guy from down the hall with a knife and having him run away from me instead of just standing his ground and shooting. Again and again and he never learned.

I watched the State of Play last night and between that and the Nintendo Direct, I honestly can't get excited for much. I have never been a GoW player, but I did give the latest GoW and shot and I was somewhere between bored by it and hated it. I can only hear "boy" so many times. Also, I fucking haaaate escort missions. Even though son of Kratos is the best person you have to escort ever, that little shit is still getting himself into trouble. No wonder Kratos is so grumpy. The rest of the State of Play was...whatever. Pacific Drive being this weird post-apocalyptic driving game is odd, I don't think I give a crap about any of the PSVR2 stuff since my daughter now doesn't seem to care for getting a PSVR2, and between both shows, I'm just left with giving a shit about Tears of the Kingdom and maybe that Rise of the Ronin game. But even then with that Ronin game, it just makes me want to go back and finish Ghosts. Stellar Blade was the one other game I was mildly interested in, but I'll see what kind of word of mouth it gets first.

I had hopes that there would be something to show off of the new Armored Core game, but I guess they're not far enough with that yet.

Oh, and I'm so far out on fighting games, but 16 year old me would have been doing backflips for more Tekken. Nearly 42 year old me doesn't care. However, I do look forward to watching all of the weird and crazy endings to that game on YouTube.

I got around to watching the Nintendo Direct, between Fire Emblem, Octopath Traveler 2, The Front Mission Remakes and Master Detective Archives I think there's a lot on my plate for the future.  I feel like MDA will probably be on everything a la Danganronpa so that will probably end up on my Steam Deck though.

Sega announcing a smorgasbord of Yakuza and P5R on Steam were the real winners for me though.

On this "you can never go home again" tip, the GTA series is my favorite series of games.  But  I just played 1/3 of GTA III and a small bit of Vice City and it was awful (and I'm not even talking about the issues with the "ramaster," I'm just talking about the core game mechanics in general).

On the "why are they remaking x but not remaking y" tip, I need to know why Dead Space is being remade (I liked it a lot but a remake is unnecessary) but not Metal Gear 1 or Sonic Heroes?  Please note this argument is only being made by my wife and daughter, respectively.

Remember in GTA 3 how if you fell in water you'd fucking die, like the water was poison? Yeah. Good times. I remember playing Vice City and almost being afraid to have Tommy step into a swimming pool.

As for Dead Space, I mean, it's probably one of the scariest and coolest games ever made, but it's going to be hard to recreate that sense of dread and horror.

Oh shit yes.  Also, walking Tommy back to the hotel after a mission, desperately trying to save because there's no auto save, and you have like two points of health left.  And then you step off a curb wrong and you die.  Also, what killed me in the GTA III replay was how simple and horrible combat was back then.  We're in this big shootout with the Yakuza and it's just me and an enemy standing two feet apart gracelessly pumping bullets into each other.

Newer games' auto saves, multiple mission checkpoints, and improved combat mechanics really ruin the old games.

The battle pass for Overwatch 2 just sounds like Fortnite? Pay real world money, earn XP, unlock rewards. I guess the only exception here, I'm assuming, are that the new characters in Overwatch have perks and stuff, whereas Fortnite every character is the same, you're just getting XP to unlock skins. I guess that does sound annoying, especially if the previous game had all characters available for free or something.

I mean, honestly, battle passes fucking suck, but if I had to go with any model it would be the Fortnite one. I loathe that they lock collab skins behind it, like the all Marvel season, and they'll never return since Epic Games has a standing rule about battle pass skins never returning in the store.

I've never played Overwatch/any Blizzard game, so I'm sure there are more predatory games/BPs out there, but Nakara: Bladepoint is PRETTY bad. It's a really fun game, but holy shit it's not worth it. It's just loot boxes on top of loot boxes, plus regular rewards like... a background for your character. Yikes. I'm glad I used my Microsoft Points to buy it and not my actual money.
