There are some really good mid-major bowl matchups prior to Christmas. Also, Florida vs. UCF a year or two too late for anyone to care!

Plus: LEACH BOWL

Bama/Cincy is a great Narrative game, with the G5 interloper challenging the face of the CFB establishment for the past decade.

One thing: if/when Cincy gets blown out, can everyone remember that thete have only been 3 games decided by single digit points out of the 14 semifinal games in CFP history?

Like, if it ends up 45-14 or whatever, that's fairly normal based on what's happened the last 7 years.

Let's not act that both semi finals games could be ugly.   Seems like some serious recency bias on that one.   Yeah Michigan looked great against Iowa but Iowa offense was high school level.   This defense is great but they haven't faced anyone like Georgia.

Oddly, @hammerva's list didn't contain the 3 other big games:

Fiesta Bowl
No. 5 Notre Dame vs. No. 9 Oklahoma State
1 p.m. | ESPN
State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona

Rose Bowl
No. 6 Ohio State vs. No. 11 Utah
5 p.m. | ESPN
Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California

Sugar Bowl
No. 7 Baylor vs. No. 8 Ole Miss
8:45 p.m. | ESPN
Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana

---

tOSU vs UU is going to be a weird ass game.  Like it will be 72-63 or 5-3 with zero inbetweens.

The inaugural Fenway Bowl being Virginia vs. SMU sure is something...

It shows you how the selection based on conference standing is flawed as Boston College and UVA flipping bowls would have made far more sense for both

At this rate they should just have a lottery for all the bowl games.    Besides probably the Rose bowl does anyone really matter which teams are in it.   And if you are worried about seeing top teams in shitty pre-Christmas bowls just put the 5-15 seeds in a separate lottery or something so they are always in the major ones.

Well it matters locally to the folks trying to sell tickets

I joked about it earlier because there probably should always be a Hawaii bowl with Hawaii playing in it as that would do well fan wise and I doubt the opponent is gonna turn down the trip to Hawaii.

The Military/First Responder/Armed Forces would all love to have a military school in it thus Navy not being bowl eligible dicks over the Military Bowl but like Air Force playing Louisville in Texas is dumb.

Go back to my earlier post - Maryland/Va Tech are playing in NY. Imagine that game being played in Annapolis instead.

It will never ever happen but, honestly, the matchups should be made first, then they can be slotted into bowl games.

And no counting the Bahamas Bowl and the "big bowls" - I am trying to decide which one is this year's "both teams being really far away from their fanbase" bowl

Washington St vs Miami in El Paso, Texas or Central Michigan vs. Boise State in Arizona

Well West Virginia vs Minnesota playing a bowl game in Phoenix has to be in the top 3.  Although at least WVU was in this bowl before when it was the Cactus Bowl

Oh yeah I totally missed that.

That one is real bad because kickoff is 10:15 pm EST. The other two are at least afternoon games.

Oh it's absolutely possible Michigan gets blown out (I don't *think* they will but I won't be shocked if they do) but nobody is going to judge the entirely of the Power 5 conferences based on Michigan's performance.

Man, the Rose Bowl people and TV execs had to be real concerned going into the B1G title game that they could potentially get stuck with Iowa vs Utah

If anyone cares, Alabama/Georgia did a slightly higher rating but slightly smaller audience than Michigan/Ohio State the week before, and those were the two most watched games of the season, followed by the Iron Bowl, the B1G title game, and Michigan/Michigan State rounding out the top five.

Not actually a bowl game, but congrats to Navy for somewhat salvaging the season by beating Army.

Are you kidding? If they lost every game 70-0 but beat Army it was a great season and the reverse is true as well.
