Am I the only one who is getting tired of Punk and Danielson eating an hour of tv time a week working guys super low on the pecking order? It was fun for a while but I'm over it. Silver should make for a good match but I'm hoping we don't get Danielson getting reps in every week like this after the title match. Same with Punk.

Edit: yeah, the Lio thing was odd because he was a pretty money heel promo in WWE from the little I saw.

I’m still digging it. Danielson working through the Dark Order has been a nice storyline to follow his string of debut dream matches. I do agree that after the title matches to either work a new feud or even space him out so he comes across special.

CM Punk getting his groove back is interesting. Especially since MJF called it out in his promo last week. Soon though he should rise up the crowd because honestly it’s not believable anyone beating him.

favorite moments from the show:

- Danielson's dripping with sarcasm double bicep pose to the camera, talking smack with a shit eating grin on his face ?

- Darby's insane pinball suicide dive into Billy Gunn.  "bounced like a Spalding off the concrete" I believe Taz said.  If you didn't catch this watch it over, and over and over, and over.....incredible.

I was trying to figure out what the fuck was up with Cody's back after they were brawling in the crowd.  I thought peeling sunburn, then briefly thought powdered tiny bits of broken glass from a smashed bottle or something stuck all over him, but I quickly ruled that out when he was completely no selling it like he didn't even notice what I, the announcers and surely everyone else did.  I settled into his flame retardant spray/gel likely mixing with liquid/sweat long before it actually came into play in the match, because I'd ruled the other logical possibilities out, and once I realized it was going to be a setup for a fire spot it really kinda took me out of the match a bit.

When it comes to things like elaborate fire spots, I'm of the mindset that if you can't make it look good and seamless, don't do it at all.  I love AEW but this is one of my biggest complaints.  JUST DON'T DO SHIT.  You don't have to do a thumbtacks in the mouth spot where the dude never bleeds from the mouth, you don't need to do a big fire spot that's telegraphed because the dude is wrestling with burn gel for 20 minutes prior and it's hella obvious....and countless other examples of AEW trying to do overbooked stuff and it looking like shit

That main event was a total cluster.  Memorable, but not exactly in a good way IMO.  Andrade deserves better than this shit.  And where was Malakai?  FTR?  I didn't even see anybody mentioning AA falling off the fucking ramp before Jose even got to him, and Jose having to help him up so they could brawl to the back as the match got started.  That's twice now that AA has fallen of his own accord during big matches he's on the outside of, maybe he shouldn't be getting involved physically anymore?  I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt though because I noticed Danielson almost step off the ramp but catch himself after his confrontation with Page.  Maybe the ramp/stage was setup slightly differently than usual due to the venue?  bad lighting?

I'm a big Kris Statlander fan.  Disappointing finish in that sense, but Ruby winning seemed like a foregone conclusion.  I was a much bigger fan of Ruby than her push in WWE, now she's getting a much bigger push and I'm less of a fan.  Hate to say it but she hasn't impressed me much in-ring in AEW.  She's lacking in explosiveness, the timing is off, whatever it is I can't get into her matches.  At least this tourny has got me more interested in the women, but nothing much has changed for me in getting people over because the two I liked the most in the division (Stat and Rosa) are being used as stepping stones for people I'm not as high on.  The one thing it's been successful at I guess is getting me to care about Jade Cargill a heck of a lot more than I did when she was feuding with Brandi and Codi

Sign me up for Miro's further descent into madness.

Also sign me up for Darby and Sting embarking on a "my dad can beat up your dad" world tour.

I NEED a Miro v Eddie Kingston "God don't love you" promo/match/war/rivalry for a few months.

And has Darby ever been a heel?

I'm just thinking that when Sting finally hangs em up for good, Darby turning on him and "taking him out" would get some nuclear heat.

It'd be an amazing callback to the "Stings partners always turn on him" trope and God damn if that match wouldn't get emotional with Darby crying as he climbs the turnbuckle before he falls through the air to nail the Coffin Drop.

What match was Adam Cole coming out to commentate?

Finish to the main event was hilariously uncalled for

Bryan vs Angels ruled. Exactly what you want from a young lion vs star match and easily Angel's best showing to date

Orange Cassidy is bigger than Cole. Jose the assistant is bigger than Cole.

Am I missing some inside thing concerning Britt Baker lately?   I mean a couple months we were kind of teasing some Tony and Adam Cole thing concerning how friendly Tony and Britt are.  Now we are just throwing shit out there that CM Punk is trying to fuck her.    Between that shit and "CM stands for Cooking Meth", MJF has regressed back to his indie promo days which he used as a scapegoat because he was average in the ring.  He isn't average anymore

It's that side I don't like to MJF promos.

Punk last week threw in a line about Baker replacing him as one of the 4 pillars, so he came back with a shot about Punk trying to get in her pants.  Seems par for the course with MJF

I'm not a fan of it because they're already doing the inside baseball stuff with Cole, and Tony, and it's all completely disconnected from this, or anything actually involving Britt

Much bigger heel heat for me when he said he'd be bigger than Piper in Portland, and then threatened to kill Punk's dog if he kept bringing it backstage.  DEMS FIGHTING WORDS

There's a fine balance to strike when being a heel commentator, and MJF missed it. He wasn't putting people over, he was putting people down. Saying Moriarty is a talentless rookie, and it's shameful that Punk was struggling to beat him, that's just shitting on the match. It's like he realised JR wasn't there and decided someone else needed to be the voice of disliking the show.

Ruby's bug eyed sell so over over the top, I was worried her eyeballs were going to fall out of her head. She'll be staring at her hands soon, just you wait.

I was coming here to say this too. Punk is obviously very aware of what's going on but this was one of the biggest star pickups they could have gotten and presenting him as a diminished, over the hill, wash up, even as the heel saying it. Well... it's being presented with a spark of truth. If they had done that with Punk in two years, that'd be one thing, but he's in his first six months in the company. I don't know how much of this is having to contrast him with Danielson's unbridled aggression (as he debuted at around the same time) or maybe Punk feeling like he can't keep up with guys like Omega, but on face value, it's a mistake. There's a reason that Ventura wasn't allowed to mock Hogan's hairline.

But again, Punk isn't an idiot and unless he really does feel self-conscious to the point where he feels like he has to have the programs speak to it, there's something else at play here and it'll it'll play out over the next few months.

Kris Stat fucking rules and that's the best Ruby has the looked in AEW.

Andrade's double knees with the chair was GNARLY.

Taz bringing up the stuff on Cody's back was hilarious, something about a fan throwing glue in the garbage can after drinking some? Just bonkers...

It is the biggest problem with heel commentators in today's wrestling.  Most of them think their job is to put themselves over.

Another enjoyable weekly wrestling program that will most likely be damned with faint praise.  But with such high standards week to week… it’s bound to happen.

That being said there was a lot to like and possibly love about this show.

I’d be handing out bonuses for whoever has been an agent(s) on some of these matches.  Statlander taking the close loss didn’t hurt her at all and STING is chugging along at high level efficiency.  Andrade was fucking awesome putting over Cody.

Really liked the Punk match and promos afterward.  I’m going to guess Punk finds a way into the upcoming battle royal?  After two weeks of promos (and Bryan/Page not being able to touch) a bit of contact for Punk and MJF is due.  Especially, if Punk takes that ring from him.

More Hayter!

Lets get some safety rails for the ramp.  Because Bryan almost ate shit too.

Good times, great short term memories!

I don't think the show sucked, but the angles and feuds following their PPVs that lead into angles and feuds for PPVs are always hit or miss. It's pretty clear they're trying to work in new talent for this transitional period, but more of it isn't working than it is.

And I'm not feeling this MJF "look at me try to replicate the heat between HBK and Bret by making Sunny Days comments" bullshit. Fuck that. Don't fuck with people's relationships outside the ring. More over, stop burying talent.

What I would like to see more of are some more PPV feuds, like Punk and Kingston, continue on past their PPV match. It doesn't have to be all 50/50 shit, but there's more of a story to tell with some people to fill the post-PPV void.

Sting proved a lot of people wrong myself included when it was announced he'd wrestle again after what happened to him in WWE. Sting had numerous tag team matches this year with Darby Allin, the best was vs. #FTR at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam. Honourable mention to Allin/Sting vs. Scorpio Sky/Ethan Page at Double or Nothing.

I think Dante is going to sell all of the members of Team Taz on Lio’s cryptocurrency and then bail on them before they figure out they’ve been bamboozled.

Nothing more Horsemenesque than Jose helping Arn up after that spill on the ramp and then Arn tagging the shit out of him right away.

Take it down a few notches, Ruby Soho.

Eh.  Soho uses facial expressions like William Regal uses facial expressions.  She's the only one using this in AEW.  Just watch less WWE.  The Buc-ees vs Sheetz battle is the best thing on AEW internet.  I am Team WAWA because Wawa has free air for the tires, which a working man can appreciate.  The Page/Soho t-shirt contest was soooo weighted for Ethan Page to win because his side is basically an adorable Ruby Soho shirt.

I didn't mind the fire spot as a spot, but I feel like it happened in the wrong match.

That spot should be the death blow at the end of a feud. Should've happened in a Cody/Malakai Black match, IMO.  That's the dude he's got the serious beef with, not Andrade.

Hey, now.  Sheetz also has free air when someone has not vandalized the pump.  The air machine also has an automatic pressure gauge.

I am Team WaWa because the freshly made club sandwiches and coffee is the best meal for those of us who occasionally work night duty.  The microwaved sliders at Sheetz are only good for feeding swine.

Use the air machine.  Do not eat the food.  The spicy turkey club at WaWa is the savior of the graveyard shift Army cyber specialist.

Always ask for extra meat and add avocado.
