NXT 2.0 is Leaders of the New School 11/23/21

I love Cora Jade basically saying hell no to the whole can they co-exist bs and telling her teammates to just find a fourth while she beats Mandy's ass. Its the best thing she has done so far on NXT. KLR being said fourth seems like it will provide her with some decent direction.

Enjoyed Ivy Nile's squash. She looked good. Not really into Strong/Gacy for Takeover.

Ciampa/Waller was good. Dug Waller and Knight brawling through the last half of the show.

The triple threat was solid. Kind of into the idea of 2.0 vs. Old School NXT.

Takeover War Games was built up a good deal here.

Be interesting to see how the WarGames matches turn out. Best one was either the very first one between Undisputed Era vs. Roderick Strong/Authors of Pain vs. Sanity at NXT TakeOver: War Games 2017 or Team Ripley vs. Team Baszler at WarGames 2019.

Trying to think is this  the first war games match where the teams are mixes of faces and heels?  I know the ones against NWO were kind of mixes

I mean technically Strong was a face while the AoP were heels in the first NXT War Games, but its definitely a stronger mix here. I think Old School will be designated faces anyways due to DIY.

LA Kinght being on a team of "old school" NXT guys is an odd choice, but this is should be a good match. I wish they'd started building this program going less than two weeks before the actual show though.

The rest of the evening did a good job putting together the Wargames card as a whole.

Ivy Nile continues to be impressive. It looks like she's going to be able to convert her impressive athletic skills to wrestling.

forgot LA Knight and Austin Theory were two different people

To be fair the elements had there, just not all connected together until this week. Ciampa/Steiner has been a thing for two months now. Waller/Knight for at least a month. Hayes/Gargano/Dunne for a several weeks now as well. Hayes also called out Ciampa a couple of weeks back. The only slightly random new factor was D'Angelo which started two weeks back.

With Triple H being less involved in NXT (with his health and everything), does that mean that Jeremy Borash is getting sidelined? Because it seems like all the ex-TNA wrestlers he bought in are becoming less prominent.

To be fair, they would be "old guard" guys so they're getting phased out anyways.

Both teams, probably. The 96 Wargames had Flair and Arn on the face team, even though the Horsemen were heels. It helped that the show was in NC, so Flair was gonna get cheered no matter what. Without knowing for sure, I would bet that Russo-era wargames match that happened on a Nitro had some serious face/heel fuckery as well.

Not technically a "wargames," but in spirit the ROH team against CZW in the cage of death was a mixed bag. Notably, heel Danielson abandoned his team mid-match, necessitating the big Homicide save.

What's this about Gargano extending his contract for one day, so he can do the blow-off PPV match before his deal expires?

Not one day - one week

Quote

Johnny Gargano signed a one-week contract extension so his deal that was to expire on 12/3 will now expire on 12/10. The key is that the next major show is 12/5 so Gargano has agreed to work through a conclusion of his current program. He is still in talks with WWE about signing a new deal, but obviously by not signing the offered deal and only signing a one-week extension, he is also willing to entertain outside offers. Candice LeRae’s contract would expire in May, but the belief is that they will add at least from the period of time she was taken off television until the period she returns due to pregnancy as a contract freezing period and if they do that, that’s going to wind up a long time into the future and probably well into 202

Yeah - Meltzer basically makes it seem like they are trying to get rid of almost all Triple H related NXT things (with some obvious exceptions)

The NXT War Games show on 12/5 definitely and obviously has dropped the Takeover name. Even though Takeover has a strong positive connotation it’s pretty clear they feel it’s associated with Paul Levesque and a past they want to move away from since the original NXT in their minds failed, thus the new direction. Still, they are doing the annual War Games show that was Levesque’s brainchild since Vince never wanted War Games.

Is that Melzerian word salad, or is that WWE trying to erase Dusty Rhodes from history? Because it does really seem like his importance is being heavily downplayed (or just ignored) quite a lot lately. And they used to play it up. Like in the first two weeks of NXT on USA (before Dynamite started) and it was getting high ratings, and they were all tweeting "Congratulations to Dusty's kids", meaning the NXT roster.

Not really sure how they are trying to erase Dusty from history here.

It might also be one of Vince's not-so-out-of-character decisions to not be nostalgic, while still kinda being nostalgic.

Like, "WrestleMania moments" are still a thing, but numbering WrestleManias isn't.

When you play up guys like Dusty and Flair and Hogan, you play up wrestling that is now 30-40 years old.

But at the same time, Vince has no issues having Edge, Goldberg, and Lesnar, whose peaks were 10-20 years ago, making their current roster look like total jobbers.

Whoo-boy, Anthony Sincere screwing Pete Dunne out of the victory, letting Carmelo "Michael P.O.S" Hayes retain! Johnny ate the pin and likely will at WarGames as well. Maybe whoever pins him also beats him in a loser leaves NXT the following Tuesday? Well, I guess it could be Bron and that would lead to the obvious rematch against Ciampa.

LA Knight switched sides with basically no notice. But if this is indeed New School vs Old Guard, instead of face vs heel, then it doesn't really matter.

Gacy vs Strong is a weird heel vs heel stuff, unless Diamond Mine is so cool that they are about to turn face or at least tweener?

Cora Jade has beaten a bunch of big names already with an upset roll-up!      The 1-2-3 Chick of NXT 2.0?
