UIC to the Missouri Valley is all but official, making an even dozen teams. Honestly a bit more of a lateral move for both school and conference compared to dial-movers Belmont and Murray, but it keeps Chicagoland popping.

Gonzaga has suspended the season tickets of John Stockton for refusing to comply with the university mask mandate. Stockton is off-the-deep-end antivax and antimask. When contacted by the local paper for comment, he claimed "over 100 professional athletes" have died from the vaccine along with "millions" of others. He's also been in a "documentary" on the topic.

Oh its even stupider since Stockon claims that those "100 professional athletes" just dropped dead in the middle of games

LOL, I had missed that part of his quote.  We got this gem from Twitter though:

Bobby Hurley was fined and suspended after verbally abusing the refs during/after Arizona State's loss to Stanford

The big reason Hurley lost his mind

Free Throws

Stanford: 32 of 41 (including 3 with a second left that won the game)

Arizona State: 7 of 9 (they took 1 free throw in the 1st Half)

Chris Mack is all but gone at Louisville

He is currently in talks with the University about a "separation" and it is believed he has coached his last game for them

Quote

A joint meeting between the Board of Trustees and the University of Louisville Athletic Association was suddenly called for Wednesday afternoon "to discuss proposed or pending litigation and personnel matters." Mack's future as Louisville's coach and any potential separation proposal is expected to be discussed at that meeting, according to sources.

Mack's buyout is approximately $12 million, but a lower number could be negotiated as part of a separation agreement, sources told ESPN.

The looming decision on Mack comes at a time when Louisville athletics is being run by an interim athletic director, Josh Heird, and is without a full-time school president after the recent departure of Neeli Bendapudi to Penn State.

Louisville sits at 11-9 overall and 5-5 in the ACC after losing five of its past six games, including Monday's listless 64-52 defeat at Virginia. Mack was suspended for the first six games of this season without pay for not following university guidelines and procedures in last spring's firing of former assistant coach Dino Gaudio.

Following Saturday's home loss to Notre Dame, senior forward Malik Williams was asked whether the players are still responding to the coaching staff.

"I don't have a comment for that," Williams said after a long pause.

Mack took over Louisville in 2018 after nine seasons at Xavier. Mack led the Cardinals to the NCAA tournament in 2019 and a second-place ACC finish in 2020 before the tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last season, the Cardinals went 13-7 but missed the NCAA tournament.

In September, the NCAA amended a previous Notice of Allegations against Louisville to include three alleged violations by the men's basketball program under Mack. The alleged violations stem from last spring's firing of Gaudio, which resulted in Gaudio attempting to extort Mack. In a recording, Gaudio told Mack he would expose violations if not paid the remainder of his salary.

The NCAA alleged that Mack "either participated in, condoned, or negligently disregarded violations involving graduate assistants and others participation in practice as well as the creation and use of personalized recruiting videos and aids."

It also said "Mack did not demonstrate that he promoted an atmosphere for compliance."

I thought he had done something by he way that story floated out there yesterday, but it sounds like this is performance based on the high expectations at Louisville.

You already have a list of the usual suspects on their wish list.

That should be the topper for Valley expansion after three nice adds. Should also be interesting to see how the Horizon reacts... they might be starting to sweat a bit.

The American East conference is banning Stony Brook from their postseason tournaments  (Men and Women) because SB is leaving for the CAA next year.

That's some serious pettiness and salt.  I kinda like it.

Most of the conferences (at least mid-majors and smaller) have something similar

Like James Madison is barred from playing in the CAA conference tournaments because they announced they were leaving

UCLA player Mac Etienne was arrested for assault after last night's game with Arizona for spitting on fans.  He was allowed to leave with the team and his case may be adjudicated without him having to return to Arizona.

During last night's game with San Diego, Gonzaga forward Chet Holmgren (all 7'0" of him) had a sequence where he scored 11 points, blocked a shot, and had a rebound.  In 1:38.  One of his baskets was a full-court drive where he blew right by the defense.

We'll call this "Moving up to #1 on every NBA Draft-board in 98 seconds"

He's a gangly, goofy-looking mofo but he has a ridiculous skillset.  He brings the ball up the floor for Gonzaga all the time.

Him and Jalen Suggs as teammates in high school - good grief.

I feel for the poor 5'9" kid who just wanted to play ball for fun and maybe get a girl, and then had to deal with that gork dropping 70 on him and then had to go home and study for the calculus exam that night.

Holmgren followed this performance up with a dominant performance against BYU on the road in Provo.  Holmgren played 27 minutes.  During those 27 minutes, Gonzaga was +43 in scoring.

On the one hand I love the visual of the arena going dark with the fireworks and spotlights after a huge win. OTOH shit could've gone south in a hurry if someone decided to take a poke at one of the Tigers in the darkness.
