This is why wrestling made the most money when its head writer was cocaine.

*laughs* true. I may be decent at imagining Arn promos, but not so much Darby. I just found the juxtaposition of said Seven minute soliloquy  and "MJF, Full Gear!" jarring.

edit: I think it comes off like I'm shitting on AEW's show this time around, but I'm not. This was a great show. Better then the competition's, week in and week out. I think maybe my expectations have been set too high, that they've hit home run after Home Run after.. (look at last week's discussion about if any promotion has had a higher "strike rate" of great free matches.)  That it comes off like I'm down on the product for "only" a line drive double into the gap. AEW's spoiled me I think. ?

And I'm the one who said that the Dark Order needed a win because all of the shit the Elite has put them through, but I think a psuedo-comedy match (that was still very good, don't get me wrong) missed an opportunity for the Dark Order to take that next step forward.

The next step for the Dark Order should come at Full Gear. I'd add Evil Uno & Stu Grayson vs. the Young Bucks to the card, then of course Hangman beating Kenny for the title with the DO fighting off interference from the Elite.

Great show. Good stuff from Punk/Fish and Sammy/Ethan. Absolutely loved Serena/Shida. Serena was killing it, rocking the pink and black and busting out the ringpost figure four. Dug the finish and the post-match attack added more layers to Serena and this rivalry, greatness. There didn't seem to be much focus on Shida actually getting that 50th win as there was the build to it. Crowd was really on fire all night.  Really enjoying the Cody/PAC vs. Black/Andrade intertwining feuds mix. Cody's shoot was fun, laughed when he acknowledged what many of us thought about thinking he was going Pedigree last week.  Main event was a ton of fun with another memorable Elite entrance, cracked me up much like the Space Jam one. Hangman reveal ruled, perfect ending to the show.

Holy Shida! What a great match, and Bryce with the second GOAT ref run-in on the post-match attack (first being lil Naitch at that one WrestleMania). Not seen the main event yet but really dug Punk/Fish and the Mox mauling.

When AEW starts doing their quarterly Clash-esque shows they're gonna need mains and co-mains that fall between "too good for weekly TV" and "no room on a PPV card". For those that haven't seen them, the Young Bucks vs. Smash Bros. stuff from PWG (+ a great one in SMASH and a good one in RoH) is peak pre-NXT indie. Put that match together as a co-main on the first one and you've got an Automatic Snowflake Maker waiting to be plugged in.

And while I'm on the subject - one of the simultaneously most obvious / least-discussed aspects of AEW is that Stu Grayson IS the tag match babyface workhorse. I feel like this got buried a bit during John Silver-mania.

The only downside to that main event was, no Cutler-cam footage to fill out the last 10 minutes of BTE. Other than that, PERFECT.

EDIT: And that version of the Ghostbusters song was a bit WCW.

I wonder if "Wimpbusters" accidentally entered the public domain like a bunch of 1980s Memphis TV shows

Good God!  I just finished watching.  What a fucking night of wrestling.  Serena Deeb is the best and Hikaru Shida feuding with her is the best thing to happen to Shida.  Don't forget that if Ethan Page had better punches, he would be the new Ted DiBiase- but he still rules and made that match so good.  The main event was fucking crazy and goofy and great.  And Bobby Fish is motherfucking awesome and CM Punk's selling made that match.  HURRAY, AEW!

Hell, with my depression and health issues (that lead to cycles where I don't feel like taking meds, which leads to a downward spiral), I hear Eddie. Except for horrifying outbursts of rage, I have "isolate into a ball and sleep 16+ hours a day"), so yeah, that came off heel-ish from Danielson.

I mean in a good way. Not like a self-health coach, but someone who can say "I've wrestled with that depression. I beat it, and I'm here working every day. If Eddie Kingston can't put in the same amount of work that I can, he's not as strong as I am". Trust me, there's nothing that people who battle depression hate more then "All you have to do is POWER THROUGH IT! OUT WORK IT!"

Honestly? While it would suck for tbs title purposes, I would love to see Shida either lose the next match to Nyla by being not medically cleared, or squashed in one-two minutes, followed by another Deeb beatdown/stretching. Give me something like Thunder Rosa-Britt Baker, but instead of tacks and hardcore, something like an "I QUIT" match.

I'm on the downward spiral right now. I don't want to stop taking my meds or have the outbursts of rage, but I've been regularly sleeping until 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

So yeah, that comes off as super heelish from Danielson. There's nothing I hate more than someone who means well, but is uneducated on the subject, so they try to help you with lines like, "You just need some fresh air." or even worse, "Just get over it.".

Yeah, this convo has reminded me that I hadn't taken my meds today, and 11:25 pm ain't the best time to take them, but it's better then putting it off till morning, because my brain will come up with another reason not to take it then. So thanks, Bryan Danielson, you asshole. I took my meds because of you. (No, I know he's not an asshole.)

Sorry, for the TMI, DVDVR's but yeah.

Looking ahead at the TBS Title Tournament i'm getting excited there could be multiple barn burners. Hayter vs. Thunder Rosa would be hard hitting and awesome.  Red Velvet has good chemistry with Jade, she's always rag dolling for her.  Soho vs. Statlander could be a good face vs. face respect match up.

A Shida vs. Thunder Rosa final could be epic if that happens.

It'd be nice to give Prest0 Vance some credibility. There's no reason he had to be squashed.

I loved seeing 10 get run over by Moxley.  Such a fun squash.  He'll be fine by the time he's ready for a good run.  This pair of squashes has nicely heated the former champion up.

Amen. The man is a tippy-top guy in a foul mood and is not fucking around. Loved the Yuta and 10 steamrolling to be honest.

Yeah, the look and gimmick are super goofy.  I know it's got the Brodie lineage, but it was always meant to end at some point.  I don't think that point should be until he's actually ready for a good run.

I could see Ruby Soho vs. Thunder Rosa being the Finals which plays into them being the final 2 in the Casino Battle Royal.

With Rosa winning and then shadow-competing with Britt over whose belt is more prestigious.

AEW has something for everyone, but that last half hour was certainly not for me.

I respect that. I thought it was really fun but the whole time I was like people aren’t going to like this. It’s a variety show, like you say.

I’ll echo the comments it was a two hour blast. Shida/deeb and Sammy/Ethan were awesome. Honestly I’m glad the Mox 10 match went short because that looked like a blade job gone bad. Also with the punk finish, the commentators were selling that he used his injured leg so it wouldn’t have the same power, and he took some time to cover. I thought the kickout right after three  may have been face saving for fish. I’m sure we’ll find out if something got messed up.

It was awesome watching this live at 5. Just like the nitro days.
