Dynamite - 9/29/2021

Recommended Posts

I'm happy that the one AEW show I got to go to had a title change. That was pretty awesome to be a part of.

Also, TK cut a little promo before the show. Hearing him say "you better chant Brodie Lee as loud as you fucking can" got me. I'm all for the hype speech now. Love that guy.

Great show.

Awesome series of entrances and pops with Punk then Cole then Jungle Boy. Cole/Jungle Boy was an excellent opener. I didn't mind the 'shocked kickout' but it would've worked better if Cole had actually been winning with the Panama Sunrise, but it's consistently been used as the setup to the running knee. Great post-match. Solid lineup of top babyfaces challenging the Elite and I'm glad they're running the 8 man tag next.  Nice victory for Big Shotty. Dark Order stuff was done perfectly.  TayJay looked amazing together, fun match.  cool to see Lio Rush signed, so I guess retirement is officially off after all.

Show flew by, fantastic main event. Felt a bit soon for Miro to lose but at the same time felt like the right time for Sammy to win. Spanish Fly counter ruled, as did Sammy's post dive. Dug including Sammy using Fuego's DDT as a callback to that being Miro's kryptonite, leading in to the finish. Loved the massive pop for Sammy getting Miro up for the GTH

And as usual things stay stacked and there's so much to look forward to coming up next. MJF/Darby seems like a natural feud to move on to for both, I like it.  Absolutely stoked for Shida/Serena coming up next week, will be great to see both finally back on Dynamite. I wonder if the sonic ring also returns with the casino ladder. Setting up Guevara/Fish during Rhodes to the Top was a great use of the extended time on TNT. Looking forward to Rampage and next week.

Aww.

So, two thoughts here:
1) If it's a special picture for the night/location, I think it would have been sweeter for him to use Brodie's belt.
2) If the photo is cannon, do we consider Miro's version a custom and not count it as the current belt?

Loved the show, family totally lost it at -1 throwing the papers.

Every show I'm getting more concerned that we're straying away from the Inner Circle and Pinnacle being a thing. I don't necessarily want them to still wrestle each other, but factions just going away without an explanation is worrying.

Love CM Punks "Whaddamanuever!" Vince McMahon shot  (he used that in his match against VKM on raw way back).

Enjoyed the backstage promos tonight, albeit excessive, established future match ups and enhanced the idea that these performers will be featured more.  throwback to 90s wrestling tv in the best way.

Im having a fantasy that Adam Page wins that ladder match for the 2 year anniversary, culminating in a win at Full Gear, and his championship speech in his hometown following.  is too much wishful thinking for my own good?

Codys transformation into "The Game" after smashing his thrown, but getting poisoned by Malakai Black is some wicked homage to Venom that im down for.  Who could knock some sense into him, other than Jon moxley?

I really hope Ricky Starks is healthy enough to battle with CM Punk.  itll be a good warm up before Punk inevitably battles MJF on the mic and in the ring.

Wished Brodie had his moment at this show, but awesome seeing him get his moment through his family.

I actually watched that yesterday:

Nicely put about Mr. Brodie Lee getting his moment through his family which he wasn't able to have when he debuted in AEW.

I think MJF is trying to pretty much say what a real-life bully would say. Someone's mother struggled with addiction and made bad life choices? A bully is going to pick at that. Family tragedy? Bully is all over that. We don't see it brought up often these days (besides the same tired Jeff Hardy insults they've been trotting out for years now) because wrestling has evolved. But MJF lives for it. If it's not your thing, I get it and if you don't want that in wrestling I would generally agree with you, but he's terribly consistent with going straight for the lowest hanging fruit. MJF is good enough to not have to rely on it, which is the frustrating part. He's cut some great promos without resorting to the 4chan bullshit. I liked Darby's non-reaction. Way better than Pillman tripping through lines trying to go tit for tat with MJF. That's going to be a losing battle for 95% of the roster.

I'm guessing Darby beats MJF with either another Wardog miscue subsequently starting the turn or Wardlow leaves MJF hanging after being slighted one time too many. It's the right time for Wardlow to get his moment. He still needs to improve in the ring from the glimpses we get but he's not going to learn working the odd indie date and single digit TV matches in AEW.

I don’t mind MJF saying that stuff about Darby’s family to him. That’s what a prick heel should do. It’s the shoot-y stuff he did tonight and just the “this city sucks” lines that I don’t have time for.

That stuff is the verbal equivalent of a match full of Canadian Destroyers. It’s just shoot-y and wink-wink stuff and does not advance anything.  Diminishing returns over time.

I kinda wish John silver wore the brodie lee gear tonight unless he no longer has it or retired it.

John Silver wore the Mr. Brodie Lee gear for the Mr. Brodie Lee Celebration of Life AEW Dynamite paid for by Brodie himself. Afterwards John said he was going to frame it.

They had no chance (No chance in hell!) on following up last week's insanity with a great show.

They did it anyway.

No, it wasn't as "good" as last week, wrestling wise, but from a storytelling point of view it was close, and considering how much stuff just made sense from a booking viewpoint. (then again, making sense from a booking viewpoint is AEW's modus operandi, so much so, that "We Make Sense" should be one of their slogans)

Honestly, when I heard about the 16 man tag, I had a negative reaction. "Oh, great, more Dark Order walking out on each other". And then Amanda walked out, and -1 threw the papers at Uno, and I got that the whole angle was booked up for this moment, in Jon Huber's hometown, that his faction was united FOR him.

Let's get Jungle Boy back on a winning streak, please? I was imagining him and MJF going to war.. (can you imagine MJF's lines "Why don't you go star in a 90210 reunion with your dad, oh wait...") but Darby Allin is a great 2nd choice.

Andrade seems to be spinning his wheels. Not sure where he's going.

I can just see OC lackadasically taking one small snip of Jack Evans's hair and just shrugging and walking off, leaving Big Money Matt even more heated "THAT'S NOT HOW YOU TAKE SOMEONE'S HAIR!" and doing the job himself, unhinging Matt even more.

And the final seeds are in place for the Eternal Cody heel turn

Love the pretapes and the fact you don't have to bury someone to get a match over.

That Main Event. Loved the George the Animal Steele reference. Somewhere in heaven, the Animal is devouring a heavenly turnbuckle, and is nodding and throwing some angelic stuffing down at CM Punk for that reference.

CM Punk was taking Tony's job over. I liked his "rooting for the kid, but I'm actually calling the match") thing.

The TNT Championship is possibly the most defended title in AEW, and I love it. It's being used like secondary championships should, to absolutely MAKE people with great matches.

Another good episode. Jungle Boy has to get a big win at some point, but I wasn't upset with Cole using a shady move to beat him.

Danielson is going to have to go on a huge winning streak and earn his next match with Kenny and I love that. It will put emphasis on the rankings and how important they really are.

Cody needs to turn all ready. Embrace the evil from Arn Anderson. Hell, be the Texas Outlaw Dusty used to be back in the 70's. Go heel and then eventually you can turn back and be the good guy. Though, things have changed in the world people just want to root for the bad guy.

I thought the Cassidy/Dark Order vs. HFO match was a huge mess just because of the sheer amount of people in it. They could have trimmed it down to a 10 man and it would have been fine. I loved Negative One doing the paper spot and Amanda being all "get your shit together" to them. If AEW was ever going to do a Trios tag title, Dark Order would be great for it.

MJF continues to be an incredible asshole. I liked Darby not giving in and not giving MJF what he wanted by attacking him especially after bringing up the uncle that almost got him killed.

Miro vs. Sammy was great. I was honestly shocked when Sammy won. I expected Miro to keep winning for quite a while longer. Should be a fun rematch when they do it.

I fucking loved Punk's Lloyd's of London bit all night. Other enjoyable things: The beginnings of a MJF vs Darby feud, Amanda Huber uniting the Dark Order, and Adam Cole vs Jungle Boy.

I didn't really care about Miro vs Sammy because I didn't want Sammy to win, but whatever. Odd for that Darby, Mox & Kingston six-man to be announced so late in the day, and then only go for like... a minute? Two? What was the point?

Rampage is going to be fucking awesome, and I'm excited about the 2nd Anniversary of Dynamite show.

Also, holy fuck Miro is great.

Remember how he got over pretty much any bullshit WWE gave him, and they just kept undercutting whatever he got over and feeding him even worse bullshit?

Maybe they could've just, you know, kept booking him like a monster and a killer and then gotten a huge reaction to a young babyface beating him in a match that doesn't really hurt Miro at all.
