Griff wasn't there because of the injury angle from Wednesday.

Julia Hart is also doing an injury angle (took her out of the PPV Battle Royal, allowing Skye Blue in), but that's the cover for the fact that she really is injured. Messed her knee up on Elevation.

Julia Hart isn't injured.

The thing is why would you need to be released?  If you're not being used, you're free to do indies, even big-name indies, and you get more money as an AEW talent.

This doesn't erase your point here, but you can't just show up at an indy on a standard AEW contract. It has to be approved. AEW generally has approved all requests so far I think. And there are special circumstances like Andrade & Moxley where they are free to take any date that doesn't conflict with AEW by the nature of the deals they signed. But the standard contracts, you need permission. So it's not like Brian Cage could show up at GCW because he's mad at his spot on the card right now in AEW as a FU to Tony Kahn.

Your point still stands, but there's just the extra step. And in the case of dudes no being used, I can't see why they would turn down a request. From what I gather TK is very pro workers and wants to do as much as he can to make as many of them happy. And if working indy shots makes a dude happy, he seems cool with that.

The approval of indie bookings is specifically related to COVID, not because of anything else.

What are you basing that on?

There are guys who have freedom to take any bookings. Like Andrade & Mox & Jericho. But your Evil Unos or Orange Cassidy or whoever can't just show up wherever they want without getting it approved. And that's not a Covid thing. I mean why would the contracts even exist if that were the case? AEW would just pay per appearance. They have contracts to lock dudes in place. TK is cool with pretty much everyone doing outside events tho and making extra money. But like Uno or OC showing up at PWG without getting it okayed isn't a thing. The standard contract guys need approvals for outside bookings.

I speak as someone with first hand knowledge of trying to book an AEW contracted talent by the way, no just throwing shit at the wall here lol.

I think we're agreeing on the same thing, basically? TK isn't going to deny anyone a booking, and they have to ask for permission, but it's not like Evil Uno CAN'T go and work AAW or something. And I'm going off what Khan told Sports Illustrated last year, about talent taking indie bookings during the pandemic:

Quote

"I’ll still allow it under certain conditions, but people need to look me in the eye and say that the conditions are being met. Our talent and their opponent need to be tested before the show, and there also needs to be a good reason why the match is important."

In the past, talent had been allowed to take outside bookings as long as it doesn’t conflict with AEW’s own schedule. Khan believes it was good for talent to be able to make additional revenue.

“I’ve been flexible in the past because I thought it was good for the talent to have the opportunity to earn, as well as great for the fans and the indies as a whole. I am not going to end it, but we are taking a closer look at it. More so now than ever, people need to come to me directly about this. I am going to be strict about what people can and can’t do, but I won’t say you won’t see people make special appearances on independent shows because I think there is a lot of merit to that."

Good show again this week. Other than the 4-man booth, I like what they're doing with Rampage.

Pac/Andrade delivered as expected. Didn't see the turn on Chavo coming, but I'll be pretty happy if that's his write-off. He's one of those guys that seems like a genuinely great dude in real life, but I have no desire to see on tv.

The 6-woman was a nice continuation of the angle on Dynamite. They did double up on Soho and Hayter this week, but those two are hot right now, and I don't mind Ruby winning a bunch because, outside of Punk, she has the best theme in the company.

I like the little split screen pre-match interview before the main.

Pillman/Caster was exactly what it needed to be. Good exposure for the young guys, and JR's line about two young lions who need a win a national tv was spot on. Pillman can't credibly go into a big match with MJF only winning on Dark. Both guys hit their stuff well and didn't try to do too much.

Pac/Andrade ruled as expected. Glad they got a nice showcase spot to shine like this. Women's tag was fun. Ruby/Riho/Statlander make a cool babyface team. Ruby's a great addition and I always love getting more Riho again. Nice hometown hero ending with Pillman and Moxley.

Before this match, I think people overrated La Sombra/Andrade a little too much. I think he’s a really good worker, but I always felt he had more potential being a character guy. Even when he was La Sombra, I thought his appeal was his natural charisma, and look, not his in ring ability. Now it’s not like his ring ability wasn’t really good, it’s just that there were other high flyers who were more natural at doing the things he was doing, and I think people had rose colored vision for that time period.   Like outside of the knees, he hardy has any original moves, or moves he popularized, and he doesn’t do them better than others. He’s always been a guy that’s borrowed, and has coasted on his looks.

But that’s not a knock on him, that’s me trying to make people realize he’s not a movez phenom. He’s no Dragon Lee for one(who is a super natural flyer). He just needs to be able to fit into a companies environment with his looks, attitude, and whatever moves he’s made his own. From there he can take that, and mold it into something greater within the roster.

.  (The only folks I think yetted forever are Rose, Sandy Alomar Jr, and John Coppolella who did under the table deals with prospects and lied about it in a big coverup.  All three totally deserved it.)

Sandy Alomar Jr. is coaching for the Cleveland Indians. You may be thinking of Robbie Alomar.

Okay, I knew Julia had the injury angle for All Out but she was on the graphic for the match on their socials. Mox making save, I get giving him the Cincinatti moment but everything felt a little too... convenient. Pillman's regular partner isn't there so Mox gets to have another moment.

I was talking with two friends about Skyline (we're all good cooks), one really liked it and one thinks its gross so I felt like I'd have to be the tie breaker but yikes, that doesn't sound great. I have a secret recipe for my chili but noodles does sound weird.

And it's not even that they appear infrequently but there's something to when they go missing. Sammy had the huge moment keeping the Inner Circle together at Double or Nothing which was this big star making moment now he's barely on the show. And I get you want to showcase the big new signees but there has to be a balance of what you've been building before. I love that guys like Miro, Kingston, and Archer are there and there's so much possibility for what can be done with Punk, Danielson, and Cole but gotta remember that Sammy is there to be the future with MJF, Darby, and Jungle Boy.

I think that dates back to WW2. Tomatoes were super hard to get so they started putting chili on noodles. I thought I read that somewhere...

Is there a reason why? Don’t DZ me here.

Who was the name of the girl they added last minute to the Battle Royale? I'm assuming instead of just having Julia get eliminated in 4 minutes they decided to let the other girl have the shine.

Skye Blue

She’s been getting an extended look to the point she worked the Universal Dark tapings.

Skye Blue is from Chicago, and despite being a nominal heel, got over big as a local babyface on the pre- Chicago TV Dark tapings. To the point that not only Red Velvet, but also Riho got booed.

I thought she looked good in what I saw of her, but I definitely see the logic in putting her in front of a different non-hometown crowd or two at the Orlando Dark before committing to her

I kinda want Death Triangle to be done with to be honest. It’s helped when Fenix has been out, but otherwise it drags down the LB’s a bit. I feel like they should be more of a focus on their own, and find their own rivals. Another thing I just thought about. Maybe the LB’s aren’t turning on PAC. Maybe it’s PAC that should turn on them, and join Andrade after gaining some mutual respect. Those two have a potential together, and make the LB’s the babyface’s being tormented by the two.

Funny you should mention that:

Turning Pac would make a lot more sense than turning the LB and you know the matches would be good.

Was Rampage the first time Andrade went for a hammerlock DDT since he got to AEW? Guess he got that back from Tay.

If they were turning Lucha Brothers, they wouldn't have won the tag titles. There's no way now. Pac maybe. He's in an awkward spot either way. He's got a heel persona but he's too fucking good to be booed. So they've been having him be a jerk babyface and it's been pretty good.
