Spontaneous
Cubsfan's stream on twitch of Triplemania had massive peak viewership for Omega-Andrade. Nothing else came close. Of course, that gets no money for AAA because of the legal nonsense where they can't stream their shows in the US but I could see why they'd leave it on him. There's still Vikingo and Psycho Clown as big matches.
LoneWolf&Subs
Then you also have the Lucha Bros. holding the tag belts, and Deonna with the women’s belt. Two acts who are not regulars. The belts are for foreigners that NA fans might care about(Because foreign fans only show up for the big shows), and star fucking. Which means Danielson can win the AAA belt on a big AEW show and then Omega can retain the AEW belt against him like they did with Christian so the Page story can pay off eventually? RIPPA
Just for the record - this is the version Meltzer put in the WON. Normally I would joke that this means its the version Konnan told Dave but because of the AEW involvement, this is the AEW version (considering who Dave know has sources with) Quote The Omega vs. Andrade match was very good technically, but not a classic or near the level of Omega match with Christian Cage the night before in Pittsburgh. The story of the result itself is most interesting because it changed along the way. When AAA offered the match to Andrade, the idea was that Andrade would win the title and be a semi-regular, at least for big shows. Tony Khan had asked AAA not to change the title on that date because Omega was doing the multiple promotion champion angle and had been undefeated in singles matches for so long that they wanted his title loss in AEW to come first. But after the Omega vs. Adam Page match for 9/5 fell through, and they pivoted to Christian Cage, the decision was made that Omega vs. Cage needed bolstering to be a PPV match. So they came up with the idea with Scott D’Amore that Cage would beat Omega for the Impact and TNA championship. At that point the winning streak and three organization storyline would be over and basically in AEW stories, only the AEW belt mattered. Khan felt that with the Cage title win finish of the killswitch on the chair, that it would play into the new AEW storyline if Omega lost his second title, with it being blamed on his head injury from the match the night before, hence traced to Christian and thus adding to the story that would now be his defending his last and most important belt against the guy who beat him for two belts and cost him a third. Ric Flair had secretly agreed to manage Andrade on the show and make a trip with daughter Charlotte Flair, who had asked for and gotten the weekend off. Charlotte Flair never appeared on television nor could she legally. It is believed Ric Flair did not have a non-compete in his contract when WWE released him last week and that has been hinted as such to us, but nobody has confirmed it. It’s still possible an agreement for a release would include a time frame before he could go to AEW, but wouldn’t apply to Mexico and AAA. But sources close to the promotion that would be alerted to such things also noted a new major AEW acquisition is coming on the heels of the deals for C.M. Punk and Bryan Danielson. Omega felt that it would make a great story if Flair would cost him the AAA title. It could also later be followed up with in the U.S. where Flair with Andrade against Omega on a big show would have a Flair-Omega dynamic that would mean far more in the U.S. than Mexico and there would be historical significance in the program playing out on TNT and/or TBS, particularly the latter since it is where Flair built his own national name in the late 70s. Andrade would theoretically become a hot commodity by being part of that angle. There’s also the issue of how long Omega can go at this level with all of his injuries that would probably require surgeries and an extended layoff, but he’s working through them because of his position in the wrestling universe. It does appear Omega’s commitments to Impact are now completed with that title being switched. In the end, and there was talk the last day about going with Andrade, Dorian Roldan made the call with Khan in the loop to keep the title on Omega. Among the reasons was Andrade had not agreed for a return date. In either case, it would be a non-AAA wrestler under contract to AEW as champion. The idea they have for their world champion now is for it to be an international star who only works a few big shows a year for them in title matches but shows up with the aura of being the best in the world and having classic matches. I forgot about the bolded part and that might have been the biggest issue - Andrade being Andrade
Matt D
With Smackdown at MSG and given what's going on elsewhere, they should really run a big angle right now. We were trying to think what even is the biggest angle that they could possible run at this point considering the talent available and how limited things are? The best I could come up with was making it seem like Naomi was going to join the Bloodline but having Becky join with Reigns instead as sort of a super heel star mega faction with Heyman instead (leading to a mixed match sometime next year with Brock and Rousey). And even that's not all that big. That's the thing with WWE right now. What can they even do? Edited September 10, 2021 by Matt D

odessasteps
Ironically, you have to be vaccinated to get in the Open but apparently none of the 4 men's semi-finalists are, including noted anti-vaxxer Novak Djokovic.
