Dolfan in NYC

Recommended Posts

Of course money talks, but the amount of wrestlers wanting to work in a wrestling company makes me so bloody happy. I’d literally just been reading WWE’s memo about banned terms and been reminded, yet again, how much I hate that insulting, self-righteous company.

It makes you wonder how many balls Tony can keep in the air with this company. There's guys like Archer, originally a big catch, who do nothing. There's super talent like Ricky Starks that are probably on Dark or Elevation. They gotta fit Hangman back in when he returns, and Butcher is back to do... what? It is literally a rotating lineup and working that has to be weird for all involved.

6 minutes ago, just drew said:

That's how loaded this show was. When it happened I was legit excited and by the time the show was over I had forgotten.

Shit man, I even forgot Ricky f’n Starks and Hobbs in my depth charts post. Just straight up forgot about them (even after thinking to myself “hmm, the heel side seems a little thin…”). That’s how loaded this roster is. It’s crazy.

Love me some Bunkhouse Butch

I forgot Butcher came back. This really was an amazing show for me. The only thing missing was Hangman Page. I hope he gets his big title match soon. It will be an even bigger deal with all the potential new viewers. Damn, everyone is so awesome on this roster.

One of the best, and most fun, top to bottom shows in YEARS. Excellent excellent stuff.

Crowd was hot all night. Preshow match was fun, Jungle Boy's catch slam out of the doomsday device position was the best. Miro/Kingston ruled as expected. I enjoyed Moxley/Kojima also as expected, and then marked out HUGE for KA ZE NI NA RE! *That* was the match I expected to happen here, so to still have it happen now is an awesome surprise - a hell of a match for this week's Moxley Homecoming Dynamite. Britt/Statlander was solid, the 'Pittsburgh Sunrise' was a nice touch.

Lucha/Bucks was awesome. Insane spectacle. I knew the change was coming, and as much as I wanted it to be Jurassic Express here, this was a really cool moment for the Lucha Bros. Also, their entrance was badass! Great spots, match, and visuals with the blood.

Thought the Casino Battle was a blast for the most part, aside from a few way too quick eliminations. I was wondering if Riho got hurt, since she seemed to go under the ropes and there was a little confusion at first as to if she was eliminated and then never seen again plus Shida was done in 5 minutes. Perfect use of Nyla and Jade as the monsters here. Marked out hearing Ruby Soho coming out to Ruby Soho. Really fantastic final two with Ruby and Thunder, I couldn't pick who I wanted to win anymore, love both so either outcome worked for me. Stoked to finally see Ruby get presented as the star she always should've been.

Dug Jericho/MJF, fun finishing sequence. I'm glad to see Jericho pick up the win, surprised to see MJF tap as he very rarely loses. Thought Punk/Darby was great, started out a little slow but finished up perfectly. Loved the Coffin Drop dodge and then the finish. Awesome stuff and a damn good first match back for Punk. Excited for what the AEW future holds for him.  Paul Wight squash was three minutes and a fine cool down between the mains. The pace of the show was nice, felt very consistent and the feud videos before the matches were always short and to the point, then it was onto the next match.

Loved the main event, thought both guys brought it and delivered great. Nice super finish with the Avalanche One Winged Angel, crazy move. Great unexpected surprise swerve with Adam Cole, good for him rejoining the family, and then the wonderful pop to end it with Bryan. The only thing I still wished we got was The Final Countdown to hit, as it was I thought his theme seemed strangely generic for him at first listen. Loved the babyfaces vs Elite standoff and brawl. Definitely made me feel there could be a multi-man tag setup for Grand Slam. I still think Hangman gets his moment, possibly at Full Gear. I noticed they did move Full Gear a week later so as to not compete with UFC/Boxing, so the Dynamite after Full Gear will be in Hangman's home state.

Overall ,a nearly perfect event, exceeding expectations. Amazing that this card was so good even without a lot of regulars on it. So much momentum, AEW is on fire. "The Home of Professional Wrestling" as Excalibur called it. More goodness already lined up for this week's shows. Can't wait. the Best time to be a wrestling fan!

They had to hit a home run tonight and they did.

And the best part of that was I KNEW they would.

"I love pro wrestling." Is my new favorite call and it came from Tony Schiavone.

This is so much fun you guys.

The Randy Marsh pic is perfect. I watched with friends on a big tv with no surround but it sounded and looked like the crowd didn't really live up to expectations even with the Punk match. Like the tag match really got em and it was hard to be as engaged after that but they were respectful and popped for spots and refused to die fully. Am I off? Think I'm gonna watch solo right now. One criticism was it went a little long and it was a bit disheartening to see great efforts in the main event not get met with a rabid crowd. Other than that, this was pretty close to a perfect wrestling show.

Can't echo the props to Bryce in the opener enough. That may have been enough to get Eddie a rematch in NYC. I hope so. Motn was the cage and I'm so happy for Lucha Bros. That was wonderful and pretty much a perfect match in my mind ending with Penta getting blood on his daughters post-match.

Small thing but Ruby saying "I'm back!" to Bryce with an overwhelming mix of emotions as Rancid plays after winning her big debut was beautiful. Their women division is getting there and there are so many wrestlers with huge potential in that match. Women's title match was a bit iffy in the first half but second half was great. Orange emoting like a human being for Kris ruled.

Excalibur closing out with AEW is the home of professional wrestling was note perfect. Undeniable. What a show and what a roster. Future is sky high and I'm so happy to be along for the ride. Let's fucking go indeed.

Welp, Bryan showing up will have me tuning into AEW to check it out on Wednesday. Hopefully, they'll have Miro throw some mook across the ring while I'm watching.

Draw me back in, dammit!

Bucks/Luchas in the cage was the apex of a style that a lot of people aren’t going to like. And it’s not my preference most of the time, but I have to respect their ability to go gonzo like that and never miss a beat. Those teams have insane chemistry, and there seems to be nothing they won’t try—and nothing they can’t pull off—together.

Very happy to see the Lucha Bros get rewarded with the belts. (Also very happy to see that they were somewhat restrained in their use of dangerous cage spots!) The whole presentation, from their entrance through the post-match, was perfectly laid out to put them over as a huge deal.

Of course, Penta had to be Penta and hold up the whole show so he could give his young children bloody hugs lol.

So I was eating during the battle royal, but how did Riho and Shida get dumped? I went to get some 'za and came back and they were both gone.

Riho was by Hayter, but it looked like it was an early elimination and not meant to happen right then. I can't remember who Shida was by - Jade, maybe?

Crowd really didn't care about Christian but aside from that they sounded hot for everything to me.

I felt like JBL watching Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka when I was watching that cage match. But that's fine, do what you do boys. The best thing is the belts changed hands... something that should have happened with three other titles tonight but I digress.

Her daughter seemed to be so emotional, fuck the rest of the show lol. The whole win seemed to mean so much to them, it was very nice to see real emotion.

Good lord that was the best wrestling show I've seen in ages. This easily could have felt like overkill but Punk's hero's return, Ruby having that moment, the little swerve for Cole being back in the Elite, and following that up with Danielson, plus Suzuki showing up. If I made a top 5 list of dope stuff on this show, it says a lot that Miro and Kingston might not crack it. I am beyond stoked for getting to finally see them live soon (Newark show).

Riho's looked botched. You could see Hayter talking to the referees with her arms out at the side. Shida I think was by Rose. Hope that helps.
