Hamhock
Counterpoint: as the current Mets ownership is neither financially-constrained by nor responsible for said contract, they should absolutely turn it into a lighthearted farce.
EdA
In fairness, today Rippa and I learned that Bobby Bo has ALSO been getting an extra half a million/year from the O's/Mets for 25 years since 2004. The extra half million from the O's/Mets has slipped by me for all this time when Bobby Bo day comes up.
Dolfan in NYC
deGrom had his "worst start" of the year. Allowing 3 runs in the 1st inning (followed by retiring 17 straight). Mets lost, but he didn't get a decision. His ERA almost doubled to 0.

The Man Known as Dan
How this thread hasn’t just became the “Ohtani is Japanese Babe Ruth, how is this god damned happening” thread, I have no idea. In an era we’re baseball is largely forgettable he feels must see. He’s incredible.

Kevin Wilson
Baseball loves stats so much, wonder when the last time was a pitcher came into a game as a PH and then got the walk-off hit to end a ballgame. The funny part is, the Marlins intentionally walked Kevan Smith to get to Max Fried, even though Max is a pretty decent hitter and technically has a better average this year than Kevan does. Still the right call by them, just didn't work out.

Hamhock
Kevan Smith had a classic start to his MLB career in 2016, and by “classic start”, I mean “hurt himself during pre-game stretching and go immediately on the injured list.”
